¹The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

¹ این پیامی است که خداوند در رؤیا به حبقوق نشان داد:

²O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

² خداوندا، تا به کی برای کمک نزد تو فریاد کنم تا بشنوی؟ تا به کی از دست ظلم فریاد کنم تا نجات بدهی؟

³Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

³ چرا می‌گذاری این‌همه بی‌عدالتی‌ها را ببینم؟ ظلم و ستم اطراف مرا گرفته است، همه‌جا پر از ظلم و خرابی است و جنگ و دشمنی همه‌جا را گرفته است.

⁴Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

⁴ قانون از بین رفته و عدالت اجرا نمی‌شود. شریران بر نیکوکاران برتری دارند و داوران عدالت را اجرا نمی‌کنند.

⁵Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

⁵ خداوند فرمود: «به ملل اطراف خود نگاه کنید، از آنچه که می‌بینید تعجّب خواهید کرد، زیرا در دوران زندگی شما کاری می‌کنم که حتّی وقتی خبر آن را بشنوید، باور نمی‌کنید.

⁶For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's.

⁶ من بابلی‌ها را که مردمی بی‌رحم و ظالم هستند، به قدرت می‌رسانم. آنها به تمام روی زمین هجوم خواهند آورد؛ همه‌جا را تصرّف خواهند کرد.

⁷They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

⁷ آنان ترس و وحشت را منتشر می‌کنند و آن‌قدر مغرورند که هر کاری که می‌کنند در نظرشان قانونی است.

⁸Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

⁸ «اسبهایشان سریعتر از پلنگ و درّنده‌تر از گرگهای گرسنه هستند. سواران آنها جست‌وخیزکنان از سرزمینهای دور می‌آیند و همچون عقاب بر شکار خود حمله می‌کنند.

⁹They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.

⁹ «با بی‌رحمی حمله می‌کنند و با ایجاد ترس و وحشت مثل ریگ بیابان اسیر می‌گیرند.

¹⁰And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

¹⁰ پادشاهان را مسخره می‌کنند و به بزرگان می‌خندند. قلعه‌ها را هیچ می‌شمارند و در پشت دیوار آنها تپّه‌ای از خاک می‌سازند و آنها را تصرّف می‌کنند.

¹¹Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.

¹¹ همچون باد هجوم می‌آورند و می‌روند. آنها مردمی گناهکار هستند، زیرا قدرت خود را، خدای خود می‌دانند.»

¹²Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

¹² خداوندا، ای خدای من! تو از ابتدا خدا بوده‌ای، مقدّس و ابدی، ای خداوند و ای پناه من، تو نمی‌گذاری که ما نابود شویم. تو به بابلی‌ها قدرت داده‌ای تا ما را مجازات کنند.

¹³Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

¹³ چشمان تو پاکتر از آن است که گناه را نگاه کند. تو بی‌عدالتی را تحمّل نمی‌کنی، پس چرا وقتی‌که شریران اشخاصی را که از خودشان عادلترند می‌بلعند، خاموش می‌مانی؟

¹⁴And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

¹⁴ چرا مردم را مثل ماهیان و خزندگان که رهبری ندارند، به قلّاب بابلی‌ها می‌اندازی؟

¹⁵They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

¹⁵ آنها مردم را به قلّاب خود می‌اندازند و در تورهای خود جمع می‌کنند و سپس به شادمانی می‌پردازند.

¹⁶Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

¹⁶ بعد می‌روند و تورهای خود را می‌پرستند و برای آنها قربانی می‌کنند، زیرا تورهایشان خوراک و ثروت برای آنها آورده است. آیا تو به آنها اجازه می‌دهی که برای همیشه به کشتار بی‌رحمانهٔ خود ادامه بدهند؟

¹⁷Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

¹⁷ آیا تو به آنها اجازه می‌دهی که برای همیشه به کشتار بی‌رحمانهٔ خود ادامه بدهند؟
