¹I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

¹ اکنون از بُرج دیدبانی خود بالا می‌روم و انتظار می‌کشم تا ببینم که خداوند به من چه می‌فرماید و به شکایت من چه پاسخی می‌دهد.

²And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

² خداوند به من پاسخ داد: «آنچه را که در رؤیا به تو نشان می‌دهم به طور آشکار و خوانا بر لوحی بنویس تا هرکسی بتواند با یک نگاه آن را بخواند.

³For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

³ این رؤیا اکنون اتّفاق نمی‌افتد، امّا در وقت معیّن اتّفاق خواهد افتاد و زمان آن بزودی خواهد رسید. آنچه را که به تو نشان می‌دهم حتماً واقع خواهد شد. شاید تا وقوع آن مدّت زیادی طول بکشد، ولی منتظر باش، زیرا وقوع آن حتمی و بدون تأخیر است.

⁴Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

⁴ پیغام این است: مردم بدکار هلاک می‌شوند، امّا شخص نیکو به وسیلهٔ ایمان زندگی خواهد کرد.»

⁵Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

⁵ ثروت فریبنده است. اشخاص حریص مغرورند و آرامی ندارند. قومها را اسیر کرده آنها را نزد خود جمع می‌کنند و مانند مرگ به کام خود فرو می‌برند و سیر نمی‌شوند.

⁶Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

⁶ اسیران با طعنه و تمسخر به بابلی‌ها می‌گویند: «وای بر شما! زیرا آنچه را که مال شما نیست می‌گیرید و به دارایی خود می‌افزایید؛ تا به کی مردم را مجبور می‌سازید تا بیشتر از آنچه که بدهکار هستند به شما بپردازند؟»

⁷Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

⁷ آیا کسانی‌که به شما بدهکار هستند ناگهان برنخواهند خاست و شما را به وحشت نخواهند انداخت و شما را غارت نخواهند کرد؟

⁸Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

⁸ چون شما قومها را غارت کرده‌اید، پس بازماندگان آنها شما را غارت می‌کنند، زیرا شما مرتکب قتل شدید و ظلم و ستم را بر روی زمین رواج دادید و شهرها و ساکنان آنها را از بین بردید.

⁹Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

⁹ وای به حال شما که از راه شرارت برای خود ثروت اندوخته‌اید تا خود و خانواده‌تان در رفاه و آسایش زندگی کنید و از خطر و بلا در امان باشید.

¹⁰Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.

¹⁰ نقشه‌های شوم شما باعث رسوایی خودتان می‌شوند. شما با نابود کردن مردم، مرگ و نیستی را برای خود می‌آورید.

¹¹For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

¹¹ حتّی سنگهای دیوار و تیرهای سقف خانه‌تان برضد شما فریاد برمی‌آورند.

¹²Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

¹² وای بر شما که شهرها و روستاهای خود را با غارت و ریختن خون مردم، می‌سازید.

¹³Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

¹³ قومهایی که آنها را اسیر کردید از دسترنج خود فایده‌ای نبردند. آنها زحمت بی‌فایده کشیدند و همهٔ چیزهایی که ساخته‌اند دود می‌شوند و به هوا می‌روند، زیرا خداوند متعال چنین اراده فرموده است.

¹⁴For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

¹⁴ امّا همان‌طور که دریاها پُر از آب می‌باشند، زمین نیز از حکمت و جلال خداوند پر خواهد شد.

¹⁵Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

¹⁵ وای بر شما که همسایگان خود را با جام غضب خود مست می‌سازید و بعد، از رسوایی آنها لذّت می‌برید.

¹⁶Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

¹⁶ بزودی شکوه و جلال شما به رسوایی تبدیل خواهد شد و از پیالهٔ مجازات خداوند خواهید نوشید و مست شده به زمین خواهید افتاد.

¹⁷For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

¹⁷ به‌خاطر ظلمهایی که در لبنان کرده‌اید و حیواناتی را که به وحشت انداختید و هلاک نمودید، اکنون خودتان نابود می‌شوید. به سبب خونهایی که ریخته‌اید و ظلمها‌ی که در شهرهای روی زمین و بر مردم آن کرده‌اید خودتان گرفتار ظلم و ستم می‌گردید.

¹⁸What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

¹⁸ از بت چه فایده‌ای به انسان می‌رسد؟ بُتی که انسان آن را بتراشد و بسازد و سپس بر آن توکّل نماید، تنها تمثالی است دروغین که حتّی نمی‌تواند حرف بزند و از آن نمی‌توان چیزی آموخت.

¹⁹Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

¹⁹ وای به حال شما که به یک تکه چوب می‌گویید «بیدار شو» و از یک بت بی‌جان می‌خواهید که برخیزد. آیا بت می‌تواند به شما چیزی بیاموزد؟ بُتها از بیرون با نقره و طلا پوشانده شده‌اند، امّا بی‌جان هستند و روحی در آنها نیست. امّا خداوند در معبد مقدّس خود است، پس تمام روی زمین در حضور او خاموش باشند.

²⁰But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
