¹Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;

¹ وای بر شما که با وضع قوانین ناعادلانه بر قوم من ظلم می‌کنید

²To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

² و به این طریق نمی‌گذارید فقرا حق خود را بگیرند و عدالت در مورد آنها اجرا بشود. به این ترتیب شما املاک بیوه‌زنان و یتیمان را صاحب می‌شوید.

³And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

³ در روز جزا چه خواهید کرد؟ وقتی خداوند به وسیلهٔ کشوری دور از اینجا، بلایی بر شما نازل کند شما چه خواهید کرد؟ برای کمک به کجا می‌گریزید؟ گنجهای خود را کجا پنهان می‌کنید؟

⁴Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

⁴ شما یا در جنگ کشته می‌شوید و یا شما را به اسارت خواهند برد. باز هم خشم خداوند پایان نیافته است و دست او برای مجازات شما دراز است.

⁵O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

⁵ خداوند گفت: «امّا آشور! من آشور را مانند چماقی برای مجازات کسانی‌که از آنها خشمگین هستم به کار خواهم برد.

⁶I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

⁶ من آشور را می‌فرستم تا به ملّت بی‌خدا، به مردمی که مرا خشمگین کرده‌اند، حمله کند. من آشور را فرستادم تا قوم را غارت و آنها را مثل خاک لگدمال کند.»

⁷Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

⁷ امّا امپراتور آشور افکار خشونت‌آمیزی در سر دارد. او می‌خواهد ملّتهای زیادی را از بین ببرد.

⁸For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

⁸ او با غرور می‌گوید: «هریک از فرماندهان ارتش من یک پادشاه است.

⁹Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

⁹ من شهرهای کَلنو، کرکمیش، حمات و ارفاد را فتح کردم و سامره و دمشق را هم گرفتم.

¹⁰As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

¹⁰ من برای مجازات ممالکی که بُتها را می‌پرستند برخاسته‌ام. ممالکی که تعداد بُتهایشان بیشتر از اورشلیم و سامره است.

¹¹Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

¹¹ من سامره و تمام بُتهای آنها را از بین بردم، همین‌طور اورشلیم را خراب و شمایل آن را از بین خواهم برد.»

¹²Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

¹² امّا خداوند می‌گوید: «وقتی من آنچه را در کوه صهیون و اورشلیم شروع کردم به اتمام برسانم، آنگاه به حساب امپراتور آشور می‌رسم و او را برای تمام غرور و تکبّرش مجازات خواهم کرد.»

¹³For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

¹³ امپراتور آشور با غرور می‌گوید: «تمام این کارها را خودم به تنهایی کردم. من آدمی قوی، حکیم و زرنگ هستم. من مرزهای بین ملّتها را برداشتم، خزائن آنها را به غنیمت بردم و مثل یک گاو نر مردمشان را زیر پا لِه کردم. ‌‌

¹⁴And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

¹⁴ ملّتهای جهان مثل آشیانهٔ پرنده‌ای بودند و من خزائن آنها را به همان آسانی که تخم پرنده‌ای را برمی‌دارند، برداشتم. برای ترساندن من بالی تکان نخورد و جیکی شنیده نشد.»

¹⁵Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

¹⁵ امّا خداوند می‌گوید: «آیا تبر می‌تواند بگوید که از شخصی که آن را به کار می‌برد بزرگتر است؟ آیا ارّه از ارّه‌کش مهمتر است؟ یک چماق، چماقدار را بلند نمی‌کند، آن چماقدار است که چماق را بلند می‌کند.»

¹⁶Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

¹⁶ خداوند متعال برای مجازات فربهان، بیماری مهلکی می‌فرستد. آتشی که خاموشی ندارد، بدنهای آنها را خواهد سوزانید.

¹⁷And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

¹⁷ خدا -‌نور اسرائیل- مثل آتش، و خدای قدّوس اسرائیل مثل شعلهٔ آتش در یک روز همه‌چیز، حتّی خار و خاشاکها را می‌سوزاند و نابود می‌کند.

¹⁸And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth.

¹⁸ جنگلهای سرشار و زمینهای زراعتی کاملاً از بین خواهند رفت، به همان‌گونه‌ که یک بیماری مهلک ایشان را می‌کُشد.

¹⁹And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

¹⁹ تعداد درختان جنگل آن‌قدر کم می‌شود که حتّی یک کودک می‌تواند آنها را بشمارد.

²⁰And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

²⁰ روزی خواهد آمد که بازماندگان قوم اسرائیل دیگر به ملّتی که آنها را تقریباً از بین برده است، توکّل نکنند. آنها فقط به خداوند -‌خدای قدّوس اسرائیل- متّکی خواهند بود.

²¹The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

²¹ تعداد کمی از قوم اسرائیل به سوی خدای متعال خود برمی‌گردند.

²²For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

²² گرچه قوم اسرائیل الآن به اندازهٔ دانه‌های شن کنار دریاست امّا تعداد کمی برخواهند گشت. مرگ و نابودی در انتظار قوم است و آنها سزاوار آن بودند.

²³For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.

²³ آری، خداوند، خدای متعال، همان‌طور که گفته بود، ویرانی و خرابی را بر سرتاسر این مملکت خواهد آورد.

²⁴Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

²⁴ پس خداوند متعال به قوم خودش که در صهیون هستند می‌گوید: «از آشوریان نترسید، حتّی اگر آنها مثل مصری‌ها بر شما ظلم کنند.

²⁵For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

²⁵ چون مجازات شما بزودی پایان می‌یابد و آن وقت آنها را خرد خواهم کرد.

²⁶And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

²⁶ من -‌خداوند متعال- آنها را با شلاّق خواهم زد، همان‌طور که قوم مدیان را در صخرهٔ غُراب زدم. من همان‌طور که مصر را مجازات کردم آشور را به جزای کارهایش خواهم رسانید.

²⁷And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

²⁷ وقتی زمانش برسد، من شما را از سلطهٔ آشور آزاد خواهم کرد و دیگر یوغ آنها بر دوش شما سنگینی نخواهد کرد.»

²⁸He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:

²⁸ ارتش دشمن شهر عیات را گرفته و از مجرون گذشته‌اند، و ساز و برگ جنگی خود را در مکماش آماده کرده‌اند.

²⁹They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

²⁹ آنها از معبر رد شده‌اند و شب را در جبع می‌گذرانند. مردم شهر رامه هراسانند و مردم جبعه -‌شهر شائول پادشاه- فرار کرده‌اند.

³⁰Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.

³⁰ ای مردم جلیم فریاد برآورید، و ای مردم لیشه گوش دهید. شما مردم عَناتوت پاسخ دهید.

³¹Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.

³¹ مردم مدمینه و جیبیم از ترس جان خود فرار می‌کنند.

³²As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

³² امروز دشمن در شهر نوب است و مشتهای خود را به سوی کوه صهیون در شهر اورشلیم دراز می‌کند.

³³Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.

³³ خداوند متعال آنها را مثل شاخه‌های بریده شده، فرو می‌ریزد و خُرد می‌کند. بلندترین و سرکشیده‌ترین آنها بریده و به زیر انداخته می‌شوند. خداوند آنها را مثل درختانی که در قلب جنگل قرار دارند با تبر قطع می‌کند، حتّی درختان سرو لبنان را به زیر می‌اندازد.

³⁴And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

³⁴ خداوند آنها را مثل درختانی که در قلب جنگل قرار دارند با تبر قطع می‌کند، حتّی درختان سرو لبنان را به زیر می‌اندازد.
