¹Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.

¹ برای آنانی که در غم و اندوه بودند تاریکی نخواهد بود. طایفه‌های زبولون و نفتالی که روزگاری خوار و خفیف بودند، در آینده موجب افتخار مردم کرانه‌های شرقی مدیترانه تا نواحی آن به سوی رود اردن تا ایالت جلیل -‌جایی که بیگانگان زندگی می‌کنند- خواهند بود.

²The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

² قومی که در تاریکی سالک بودند، نور عظیمی دیدند، به آنها که در سایهٔ موت زندگی می‌کردند نوری درخشان تابید.

³Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

³ ای خداوند، چه شادی بزرگی به آنها داده‌ای و چه خوشحالی عظیمی به آنها بخشیده‌ای! آنها از آنچه تو کرده‌ای بسیار شادمانند. مثل زمان برداشت محصول فراوان یا مانند هنگامی که غنایم جنگی را بین خود تقسیم می‌کنند.

⁴For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

⁴ چون یوغی که بر گردنشان سنگینی می‌کرد، و چوبی را که بر پشتشان زده می‌شد شکستی، چوب سرکوب کننده ایشان را شکستی، درست همان‌گونه که مدّتها پیش ارتش مدیان را شکست دادی.

⁵For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

⁵ چکمه‌های سربازان اشغالگر و لباسهای خون‌آلودشان، در آتش سوخته خواهد شد.

⁶For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

⁶ برای ما فرزندی زاییده، پسری به ما داده شده است و او بر ما سلطنت خواهد کرد. اسم او «مشاور عجیب، خدای قدیر، پدر سرمدی و شاهزادهٔ صلح و سلامتی» خواهد بود.

⁷Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

⁷ قدرت شاهانه‌اش روز افزون، و مملکتش همیشه در صلح خواهد بود. او مثل خاندانش داوود سلطنت می‌کند و قدرتش از حال تا ابد بر نیکی و عدالت متّکی خواهد بود. خدای متعال با اشتیاق این‌کار را به کمال خواهد رسانید.

⁸The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

⁸ خداوند حکم خودش را علیه مملکت اسرائیل و خاندان یعقوب اعلام کرده است.

⁹And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,

⁹ تمام مردم اسرائیل و تمام کسانی‌که در شهر سامره با غرور و نخوت زندگی می‌کنند، این را خواهند دانست. آنها می‌گویند:

¹⁰The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

¹⁰ «ساختمانهای خشتی فرو ریختند، امّا به جای آنها ساختمانهای سنگی خواهیم ساخت. تیرهای چوبی چنار خُرد شدند، امّا به جای آنها خانه‌های خود را با تیرهای چوبی سرو آزاد خواهیم ساخت.»

¹¹Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;

¹¹ خداوند دشمنانشان را برانگیخته تا به آنها حمله کنند.

¹²The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹² سوریه از شرق و فلسطین از غرب دهان خود را برای بلعیدن اسرائیل باز کرده‌اند. با وجود این، خشم خدا هنوز پایان نیافته و دستش برای تنبیه آنها دراز است.

¹³For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

¹³ با اینکه خدای متعال قوم اسرائیل را تنبیه کرده است، امّا آنها هنوز توبه نکرده‌اند و به سوی او برنگشته‌اند.

¹⁴Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.

¹⁴ پس خداوند در یک روز رهبران و مردم اسرائیل را به جزایشان خواهد رسانید.

¹⁵The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

¹⁵ بزرگان و نُجبا سر، و انبیای دروغین دُم هستند.

¹⁶For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

¹⁶ رهبران قوم، آنها را گمراه و کاملاً گیج کرده‌اند.

¹⁷Therefore the LORD shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹⁷ پس خداوند نمی‌گذارد جوانان فرار کنند و بر بیوه زنان و یتیمان هم رحم نخواهد کرد. چون تمام قوم بی‌خدا و بدکار هستند و هرچه بگویند شرارت‌آمیز می‌باشد، پس خشم خدا تمام نخواهد شد و دستش برای تنبیه آنها دراز است.

¹⁸For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.

¹⁸ شرارت قوم مثل آتشی است که خار و خس را هم می‌سوزاند. مثل شرارتی است که تمام جنگل را می‌سوزاند و ستونهای دود آن فضا را پُر می‌کند.

¹⁹Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

¹⁹ چون خداوند متعال خشمگین است، مجازات او مثل آتش سرتاسر این سرزمین را می‌سوزاند و قوم هلاک می‌شوند و کسی به کسی رحم نمی‌کند.

²⁰And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

²⁰ مردم در این مملکت هر جا چیزی برای خوردن پیدا می‌کنند، آن را می‌قاپند و می‌خورند ولی هیچ وقت سیر نمی‌شوند. آنها حتّی فرزندان خود را می‌خورند. طایفهٔ منسی و طایفهٔ افرایم به یکدیگر حمله می‌کنند و بعد، آنها متفقاً به یهودا یورش می‌برند. با وجود تمام اینها، خشم خدا پایان نیافته و دستش هنوز برای تنبیه دراز است.

²¹Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

²¹ طایفهٔ منسی و طایفهٔ افرایم به یکدیگر حمله می‌کنند و بعد، آنها متفقاً به یهودا یورش می‌برند. با وجود تمام اینها، خشم خدا پایان نیافته و دستش هنوز برای تنبیه دراز است.
