¹For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

¹ خداوند یک ‌بار دیگر به قوم خودش اسرائیل، ترحّم خواهد کرد. او می‌گذارد باز هم آنها به سرزمین خود بازگردند تا بیگانگان بیایند و با آنها زندگی کنند.

²And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

² ملّتهای زیادی به قوم اسرائیل کمک می‌کنند تا آنها به سرزمینی که خدا به آنها داده بود بازگردند و در آنجا ملل دیگر مثل برده در خدمت اسرائیل خواهند بود. آنها که روزی اسرائیل را گرفته بودند، اکنون مغلوب اسرائیل شده‌اند و مردم اسرائیل بر کسانی حکومت می‌کنند که روزی تحت ستم آنها بودند.

³And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

³ خداوند قوم اسرائیل را از درد و زحمتشان و از بیگاری‌های سخت، خلاص خواهد کرد.

⁴That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

⁴ وقتی چنین بشود، آنها با تمسخر به پادشاه بابل خواهند گفت: «پادشاه سرنگون شده و دیگر به کسی ظلم و ستم نخواهد کرد.»

⁵The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.

⁵ خداوند به قدرت حکمرانان شریر

⁶He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

⁶ که با خشونت بر مردم ظلم و ستم کردند و هیچ‌وقت از جور و جفای مردم مغلوب دست بر نداشتند، پایان داده است.

⁷The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.

⁷ اکنون، بالاخره تمام جهان از آرامش و صلح بهره‌مند می‌شوند و همه با شادی می‌سرایند.

⁸Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.

⁸ درختان صنوبر و سروهای آزاد لبنان از سقوط پادشاه بابل شادی می‌کنند، چون اکنون که او رفته، دیگر کسی نیست که آنها را قطع کند.

⁹Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

⁹ دنیای مردگان خود را برای استقبال از پادشاه بابل آماده می‌سازد. ارواح زورمندان پیشین در تب و تابند. ارواح شاهان از تختهایشان برمی‌خیزند.

¹⁰All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?

¹⁰ همهٔ آنها به او می‌گویند: «اکنون تو مثل ما ضعیف هستی! تو هم مثل یکی از ما شده‌ای!

¹¹Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

¹¹ در گذشته، همه با نواختن چنگ و سرود به تو احترام می‌گذاشتند، امّا الآن تو در دنیای مردگان هستی. بر تختی انباشته از حشرات خوابیده‌ای و با پتویی از کرمها پوشیده شده‌ای.»

¹²How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

¹² ای پادشاه بابل، ای ستارهٔ درخشان صبحگاهان، تو از آسمان افتادی! در گذشته تو ملّتها را شکست دادی، امّا الآن خودت به خاک افتاده‌ای.

¹³For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

¹³ تو می‌خواستی به آسمانها صعود کنی و تختت را بر فراز بلندترین ستاره‌‌ها بگذاری. تو فکر می‌کردی که مثل یک پادشاه بر فراز آن کوه در شمال، جایی که خدایان جمع می‌شوند، سلطنت خواهی کرد.

¹⁴I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

¹⁴ تو می‌گفتی که بر فراز ابرها صعود می‌کنی و مثل قادر متعال خواهی بود.

¹⁵Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

¹⁵ امّا در عوض، تو به قعر دنیای مردگان کشانده شده‌ای.

¹⁶They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

¹⁶ مردگان با تعجّب تو را می‌بینند و به تو خیره شده‌اند. آنها می‌پرسند: «آیا این همان کسی نیست که زمین را می‌لرزاند و ممالک از ترسش به خود می‌لرزیدند؟

¹⁷That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

¹⁷ آیا این همان کسی نیست که شهرها را ویران و دنیا را به بیابان تبدیل کرده بود؟ آیا این همان کسی نیست که هیچ‌وقت اسیران را آزاد نکرد و نگذاشت آنها به وطن خود بازگردند؟»

¹⁸All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.

¹⁸ تمام پادشاهان زمین در گورهای با شکوه خود خفته‌اند.

¹⁹But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

¹⁹ امّا تو قبری نداری و جسد تو را دور انداخته‌اند تا بگندد. جسد سربازانت که در جنگ کشته شده‌اند روی جسد توست و همهٔ آنها را به یک دخمهٔ سنگین انداخته‌اند و لگدمال می‌شوند.

²⁰Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

²⁰ چون تو کشور خود را به ویرانی کشاندی و مردم خود را کشتی، تو مثل سایر پادشاهان دفن نخواهی شد و هیچ‌یک از اعضای خانوادهٔ شریرت زنده نخواهند ماند.

²¹Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

²¹ کشت و کشتار شروع می‌شود. پسران این پادشاه به‌خاطر گناه پدرانشان کشته می‌شوند. هیچ‌یک از آنها دیگر بر دنیا حکومت نخواهد کرد و شهر دیگری نخواهد ساخت.

²²For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.

²² خدای متعال می‌گوید: «من به بابل حمله خواهم کرد و آن را ویران می‌کنم. هیچ چیز از آن باقی نخواهم گذاشت، نه کودکی به جای می‌گذارم و نه موجود زنده‌ای. من -‌خداوند- چنین گفته‌ام.

²³I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.

²³ من بابل را به باتلاقی مبدّل می‌کنم و جغدها در آن آشیانه خواهند گرفت. من بابل را با جارویی پاک می‌کنم که همه‌چیز را می‌روبد و دور می‌ریزد. من -‌خدای متعال- این را گفته‌ام.»

²⁴The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

²⁴ خداوند متعال قسم خورده می‌گوید: «آنچه ارادهٔ من بود همان واقع خواهد شد. آنچه می‌خواستم انجام شود، به انجام خواهد رسید.

²⁵That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

²⁵ من نیروهای آشور را در سرزمین خودم -‌اسرائیل- درهم خواهم شکست و آنها را در کوههای خودم پایمال خواهم کرد. من قوم خود را از زیر یوغ آشور و از سختی‌هایی که متحمّل می‌شوند، آزاد خواهم کرد.

²⁶This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.

²⁶ این است برنامهٔ من برای دنیا، و بازوی من برای مجازات ملّتها بلند است.»

²⁷For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

²⁷ خدای متعال چنین خواسته، بازویش برای مجازات بلند است و کسی نمی‌تواند جلوی آن‌ را بگیرد.

²⁸In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.

²⁸ این پیام در سالی که آحاز پادشاه درگذشت، داده شد:

²⁹Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

²⁹ ای مردم فلسطین، چوبی که شما را با‌ آن می‌زدند، شکسته شده، امّا شما دلیلی برای شادی ندارید. وقتی یک مار بمیرد، مار سهمگین‌تری به جای آن می‌آید. تخم یک مار، اژدهای پرنده تولید می‌کند.

³⁰And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.

³⁰ خداوند، شبان مسکینان قوم خود خواهد بود و آنها در جاهای امن زندگی خواهند کرد. امّا او قحطی وحشتناکی برای شما -‌ای فلسطینیان- خواهد فرستاد و یکی از شما زنده نخواهید ماند.

³¹Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.

³¹ ای مردمان شهرهای فلسطین، برای کمک گریه و زاری کنید! همهٔ شما بترسید! ابری از گرد و خاک و ارتشی که در آن آدم ترسویی وجود ندارد از شمال می‌آید. جواب ما به قاصدانی که از فلسطین می‌آیند چیست؟ ما به آنها خواهیم گفت که خداوند کوه صهیون را برای قوم ستمدیدهٔ خود تعیین کرده و آنها در آنجا امن خواهند بود.

³²What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

³² جواب ما به قاصدانی که از فلسطین می‌آیند چیست؟ ما به آنها خواهیم گفت که خداوند کوه صهیون را برای قوم ستمدیدهٔ خود تعیین کرده و آنها در آنجا امن خواهند بود.
