¹Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.

¹ وای بر تو ای اورشلیم، وای بر تو ای قربانگاه خدا! وای بر شهری که داوود در آن اردو زد، بگذارید یکی دو سالی از جشن‌ها و اعیاد آن بگذرد،

²Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.

² آنگاه خدا به شهری که «قربانگاه خدا» نامیده شده، مصیبت خواهد رسانید. همه‌جا گریه و زاری خواهد بود و تمام شهر مثل قربانگاه خون‌آلود خواهد بود.

³And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.

³ خداوند به شهر حمله و از هر طرف آن را محاصره می‌کند.

⁴And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

⁴ اورشلیم مثل روحی که تقلّا می‌کند از اعماق زمین سخن بگوید، صدای گرفته‌اش از زیر خاک و گل به گوش می‌رسد.

⁵Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

⁵ ای اورشلیم، همهٔ بیگانگانی که به تو حمله می‌کنند مثل گرد و خاک به اطراف پاشیده خواهند شد و ارتش‌های هولناک آنها، به طور ناگهانی و بدون انتظار، مثل کاهی در برابر باد پراکنده خواهند شد.

⁶Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

⁶ خدای متعال با شدّتِ صاعقه و زلزله شما را نجات خواهد داد. او توفان و باد و آتشِ سرکش خواهد فرستاد.

⁷And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.

⁷ آنگاه، تمام ارتش‌ ملّتهایی که به شهری که قربانگاه خداوند در آن قرار دارد حمله می‌کنند مثل یک رؤیا و مثل چیزی که در شب به خیال آدم می‌آید، ناپدید خواهند شد.

⁸It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.

⁸ تمام ملّتهایی که برای حمله به اورشلیم دور هم جمع شده‌اند، مثل مرد گرسنه‌ای هستند که در خواب می‌بیند که غذا می‌خورد امّا گرسنه بیدار می‌شود، یا مثل شخصی که از تشنگی در حال مرگ است و در خواب می‌بیند که آب می‌نوشد، امّا وقتی بیدار می‌شود دهان و گلویش از تشنگی خشک است.

⁹Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

⁹ به حماقت خود ادامه بدهید! باز هم نابینا باقی بمانید! بدون شراب مست شوید! و بدون نوشیدن یک قطره شراب، مستانه حرکت کنید.

¹⁰For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

¹⁰ خداوند شما را خواب‌آلود کرده و شما آماده‌اید به خوابی عمیق فرو روید. انبیا باید چشم مردم باشند، امّا خداوند چشمان آنها را بسته است.

¹¹And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:

¹¹ مفهوم نبوّتها از شما پوشیده و مانند طومارِ مُهر و موم شده خواهد بود. اگر آن را به کسی‌که خواندن می‌داند، بدهید و از او بخواهید آن را بخواند او خواهد گفت که نمی‌تواند، چون آن مُهر و موم شده است.

¹²And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

¹² و اگر آن را به آدمی بی‌سواد بدهید و از او بخواهید آن را برایتان بخواند، او در جواب خواهد گفت که نمی‌تواند بخواند.

¹³Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

¹³ خداوند گفت: «این مردم ادّعا می‌کنند که مرا می‌پرستند، امّا حرفهای آنها بی‌معنی است. دین آنها چیزی جز قوانین و احادیث انسانی نیست چیزی که آنها از حفظ کرده‌اند.

¹⁴Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

¹⁴ پس من با ضربات غیرقابل انتظار و پی‌درپی، آنها را شگفت‌زده خواهم کرد. خردمندان آنها آدمهایی جاهل و زرنگی‌های آنها بیهوده خواهند بود.»

¹⁵Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

¹⁵ وای بر کسانی‌که می‌کوشند نقشه‌های خود را از خدا پنهان کنند. آنها نقشه‌های خود را مخفیانه اجرا می‌کنند و می‌پندارند که کسی آنها را نمی‌بیند و هیچ‌کس نمی‌داند آنها چه می‌‌کنند.

¹⁶Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?

¹⁶ آنها همه‌چیز را وارونه می‌کنند. کدام مهمتر است، کوزه یا کوزه‌گر؟ آیا ساختهٔ دست انسان می‌تواند به او بگوید: «تو مرا نساختی؟» یا می‌تواند بگوید: «تو نمی‌دانی چه می‌کنی؟»

¹⁷Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?

¹⁷ همان‌طور که ضرب‌المثل معروف می‌گوید: بزودی جنگلهای انبوه، کشتزار و زمینهای زراعتی دوباره جنگل می‌شوند.

¹⁸And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

¹⁸ وقتی آن روز برسد، آدمهای کَر می‌توانند کتابی را که بلند خوانده می‌شود، بشنوند و نابینایانی که در تاریکی زندگی می‌کنند، چشمانشان باز شده و خواهند دید.

¹⁹The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁹ فقیران و افتادگان بار دیگر خوشی‌ای را که خداوند، خدای قدّوس اسرائیل، می‌دهد خواهند یافت.

²⁰For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

²⁰ آنهایی که به دیگران ستم می‌کنند و به خدا ناسزا می‌گویند، از بین خواهند رفت و تمام گناهکاران نابود می‌شوند.

²¹That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.

²¹ خدا اینها را نابود خواهد کرد: کسانی‌که به دیگران افترا و تهمت می‌زنند، آنهایی که مانع مجازات جنایتکاران می‌شوند و یا با دروغ نمی‌گذارند مردمان امین و صالح به حقّ خود برسند.

²²Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.

²² پس اکنون خداوند، خدای اسرائیل که ابراهیم را از سختی‌ها رهانید، می‌گوید: «ای قوم من، شما بیش از این بی‌آبرو نخواهید شد، و صورتهای شما دیگر از شرم، رنگ‌پریده نخواهد بود.

²³But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

²³ وقتی فرزندانی را که من به شما می‌دهم ببینید، آنگاه پی خواهید برد که من خدای قدّوس اسرائیل هستم. شما با ترس و حرمت، احترام مرا نگاه خواهید داشت. مردمان احمق یاد می‌گیرند و می‌فهمند و آنهایی‌ که همیشه گِله و شکایت می‌کنند، از یادگیری خوشحال خواهند بود.»

²⁴They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

²⁴ مردمان احمق یاد می‌گیرند و می‌فهمند و آنهایی‌ که همیشه گِله و شکایت می‌کنند، از یادگیری خوشحال خواهند بود.»
