¹Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:

¹ به سرودی که می‌سرایم گوش دهید. این سرودی است دربارهٔ دوستم و تاکستانش: دوستم در تپّه‌ای بسیار حاصلخیز تاکستانی داشت.

²And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

² او زمین را کَند و از سنگلاخ‌ها پاک ساخت. مرغوبترین تاک‌ها را در آن کاشت. بُرجی برای نگاهبانی آن بنا کرد و چرخشتی برای فشردن انگورهای آن ساخت. و برای رسیدن فصل برداشت انگورها به انتظار نشست، امّا تمام انگورها ترش بودند.

³And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.

³ آنگاه دوستم می‌گوید: «شما، ای مردمی که در اورشلیم و یهودیه زندگی می‌کنید، بین من و تاکستانم داوری کنید.

⁴What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

⁴ آیا کاری بود که برایش انجام ندادم؟ پس چرا باید انگور ترش به بار آورد و نه انگور مرغوبی که انتظار داشتم؟

⁵And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

⁵ «این کاری است که با تاکستانم خواهم کرد: حصار آن را برمی‌دارم، دیوارهای آن را خراب می‌کنم، و می‌گذارم تا حیوانات وحشی آن را بخورند و لگدمال کنند.

⁶And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

⁶ می‌گذارم علفهای هرز آن را بپوشانند. تاکها را دیگر هرس نمی‌کنم و زمین را وجین نخواهم کرد. می‌گذارم خار و خس همهٔ آن را فرا گیرند. من حتّی به ابرها دستور می‌دهم دیگر بارانی بر آن نبارد.»

⁷For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁷ اسرائیل، تاکستان خداوند متعال است. مردم یهودیه تاکهایی هستند که او کاشته است. او از آنها انتظار نیکی داشت، امّا در عوض، آنها مرتکب قتل شدند. او از آنها انتظار داشت در راستی و عدالت زندگی کنند، ولی فریاد مظلومان برای داوری بلند است.

⁸Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!

⁸ وای بر شما که خانه‌ها و مزارع بیشتری می‌خرید و به آنچه دارید می‌افزایید. بزودی جایی برای زندگی دیگران باقی نمی‌ماند و شما در این زمین تنها خواهید ماند.

⁹In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.

⁹ من شنیده‌ام که خداوند متعال می‌گوید: «تمام این خانه‌های بزرگ و زیبا، مخروبه و خالی خواهد ماند.

¹⁰Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah.

¹⁰ تاکستان بیست هزار متری کمتر از بیست بطری شراب می‌دهد و از ده پیمانه بذر فقط یک پیمانه محصول برداشت می‌کنند.»

¹¹Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!

¹¹ وای بر شما که صبح زود برای نوشیدن برمی‌خیزید و شبهای درازی را در مستی می‌گذرانید.

¹²And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

¹² در بزم‌هایتان چنگ و دایره زنگی و نی می‌زنید و شراب‌خواری می‌کنید، امّا نمی‌فهمید خداوند چه می‌کند.

¹³Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.

¹³ شما را مثل اسیران خواهند برد. رهبران شما از گرسنگی و مردم عادی از تشنگی خواهند مرد.

¹⁴Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

¹⁴ دنیای مردگان مشتاق گرفتن آنهاست و دهان خود را برای بلعیدن آنها باز کرده. مرگ رهبران اورشلیم را همراه با مردمان عادی پر سر و صدا، با هم خواهد بلعید.

¹⁵And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:

¹⁵ همه شرمسار و متکبّران پست و تحقیر خواهند شد.

¹⁶But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.

¹⁶ امّا خداوند متعال، بزرگی خود را با اجرای عدالت و قدّوسیّت خویش را با داوری قوم خود آشکار خواهد ساخت.

¹⁷Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.

¹⁷ گوسفندان در شهرهای ویران شده، علف می‌خورند و بُزغاله‌ها در علفزارهای آن می‌چرند.

¹⁸Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:

¹⁸ وای بر شما که نمی‌توانید از دست گناهانتان آزاد شوید.

¹⁹That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

¹⁹ شما می‌گویید: «بگذارید خداوند آنچه را که می‌خواهد زودتر انجام دهد تا ما بتوانیم آن را ببینیم. بگذارید خدای قدّوس اسرائیل به موقع کار خود را انجام دهد، صبر کنید تا ببینیم اراده و نقشهٔ او چیست.»

²⁰Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

²⁰ وای بر شما که شرارت را نیک و نیکی را شرارت می‌نامید. شما تاریکی را به نور و نور را به تیرگی تبدیل می‌کنید. شما آنچه را شیرین است تلخ و آنچه را تلخ است شیرین می‌کنید.

²¹Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

²¹ وای بر شما که خود را دانا و زرنگ می‌دانید.

²²Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

²² وای بر شما ای قهرمانان جام شراب! شما فقط در وقتی‌که مشروبات را مخلوط می‌کنید شجاع و نترس هستید.

²³Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

²³ امّا با گرفتن رشوه، آدمهای خاطی را آزاد می‌کنید و به داد ستمدیدگان نمی‌رسید.

²⁴Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ چون به آنچه خداوند متعال -‌خدای قدّوس اسرائیل- به شما آموخت، گوش نداده‌اید. اکنون همان‌طور که کاه و علف خشک در آتش پژمرده شده می‌سوزند، ریشه‌های شما هم می‌پوسند و شکوفه‌های شما می‌خشکند و پراکنده می‌شوند.

²⁵Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

²⁵ خداوند خشمگین است و دست خود را برای تنبیه آنها بلند کرده است. کوهها به لرزه می‌افتند و اجساد مردگان مثل زباله در خیابانها ریخته می‌شود. حتّی در آن وقت هم غضب خداوند پایان نخواهد یافت و باز هم دست او برای تنبیه بلند است.

²⁶And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:

²⁶ خداوند به ملّتی از مملکتی دور علامت می‌دهد. او آنها را از سرزمینی بسیار دور با سوت فرا خواهد خواند. آنها با سرعت و شتاب می‌آیند.

²⁷None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:

²⁷ هیچ‌کس از آنها خسته نمی‌شود و لغزش نمی‌خورد. آنها هیچ‌وقت نمی‌خوابند و چرت نمی‌زنند. کمربند هیچ‌یک از آنها شُل نیست و بند کفشهایشان پاره نشده است.

²⁸Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

²⁸ تیرهای آنها تیز و کمانهای آنها آمادهٔ نشانه‌گیری است. سم اسبهای آنها مثل سنگ خارا محکم و چرخهای ارّابه‌هایشان مثل گردباد می‌چرخند.

²⁹Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

²⁹ سربازان آنها مثل شیری که حیوانی را کشته و جسد او را به جایی می‌برد که کسی نتواند آن را از او بگیرد، می‌غرّند و حرکت می‌کنند. وقتی آن روز برسد، آنها مثل دریای خروشان بر اسرائیل می‌شورند. به این سرزمین بنگرید! همه‌جا تیرگی و فلاکت است. تاریکی و ظلمت، بر نور پیروز شده است.

³⁰And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

³⁰ وقتی آن روز برسد، آنها مثل دریای خروشان بر اسرائیل می‌شورند. به این سرزمین بنگرید! همه‌جا تیرگی و فلاکت است. تاریکی و ظلمت، بر نور پیروز شده است.
