¹Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

¹ آیا انسان فانی می‌تواند فایده‌ای به خدا برساند؟ حتّی عاقلترین انسان، نمی‌تواند برای او مفید باشد.

²Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?

² هرقدر که صالح و درستکار باشی، باز هم برای خدا مفید نیستی و بی‌عیب بودن تو برای او سودی ندارد.

³Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

³ او تو را به‌خاطر تقوی و خداترسی تو، مجازات نمی‌کند.

⁴Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?

⁴ گناهان تو بی‌شمار و شرارت تو بسیار زیاد است،

⁵Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?

⁵ زیرا لباسهای دوستانت را که به تو بدهکار بودند، گرو گرفتی و آنها را برهنه گذاشتی.

⁶For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

⁶ به تشنگانِ خسته آب ندادی و نان را از گرسنگان دریغ کردی.

⁷Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

⁷ با استفاده از قدرت و مقامت صاحب زمین شدی.

⁸But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

⁸ تو نه تنها به بیوه زنان کمک نکردی، بلکه مال یتیمان را هم خوردی و به آنها رحم ننمودی.

⁹Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

⁹ بنابراین در دامهای وحشت گرفتار شده‌ای و بلای ناگهانی بر سرت آمده است.

¹⁰Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

¹⁰ در ظلمت و ترس به سر می‌بری و بزودی سیلاب فنا تو را در خود فرو می‌برد.

¹¹Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

¹¹ خدا بالاتر از آسمانهاست. ستارگان را بنگر که چقدر دور و بلند هستند.

¹²Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

¹² با این‌همه تو می‌گویی که خدا چطور می‌تواند، از پس ابرهای تیره و غلیظ شاهد کارهای من باشد و مرا داوری کند.

¹³And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

¹³ ابرهای ضخیم او را احاطه کرده است و از بالای گنبد آسمان که بر آن می‌خرامد، نمی‌تواند مرا ببیند.

¹⁴Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

¹⁴ آیا می‌خواهی راهی را دنبال کنی که گناهکاران در گذشته از آن پیروی می‌کردند؟

¹⁵Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?

¹⁵ آنها به مرگ نابه‌هنگام گرفتار شدند و اساس و بنیادشان را سیلاب فنا ویران کرد.

¹⁶Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:

¹⁶ زیرا آنها به قادر مطلق گفتند: «با ما کاری نداشته باش. تو نمی‌توانی به ما کمک کنی.»

¹⁷Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?

¹⁷ درحالی‌که خدا خانه‌هایشان را از هرگونه نعمت پر کرده بود. به همین جهت، من خود را از راه ایشان دور می‌کنم.

¹⁸Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁸ وقتی شریران هلاک می‌شوند، اشخاص صالح و بی‌گناه شادی می‌کنند و می‌خندند

¹⁹The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

¹⁹ و می‌گویند: «بدخواهان ما از بین رفتند و دارایی و مالشان در آتش سوخت.»

²⁰Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

²⁰ پس ای ایّوب، با خدا آشتی کن و از دشمنی با او دست بردار؛ تا از برکات او برخوردار شوی.

²¹Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

²¹ تعالیم او را بپذیر و کلام او را در دلت حفظ کن.

²²Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

²² اگر به سوی خدا بازگردی و بدی و شرارت را در خانه‌ات راه ندهی، آنگاه زندگی گذشته‌ات به تو بازمی‌گردد.

²³If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

²³ طلایت را دور بینداز، طلای نابت را در بستر خشک رودخانه بینداز.

²⁴Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

²⁴ آن وقت خود خداوند طلای خالص و نقرهٔ تو خواهد بود.

²⁵Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

²⁵ آنگاه پیوسته به او اعتماد خواهی نمود و از وجود او لذّت خواهی برد.

²⁶For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

²⁶ وقتی به حضور او دعا کنی، دعایت را می‌پذیرد و می‌توانی نذرهایت را بجا آوری.

²⁷Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

²⁷ هر تصمیمی که بگیری، در انجام آن موفّق می‌شوی و راههایت همیشه روشن می‌باشند.

²⁸Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

²⁸ خدا مردمان حلیم و فروتن را سرفراز و اشخاص متکبّر را خوار و ذلیل می‌سازد. پس اگر درستکار بمانی و گناه نکنی، او تو را نجات خواهد داد.

²⁹When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

²⁹ پس اگر درستکار بمانی و گناه نکنی، او تو را نجات خواهد داد.

³⁰He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
