¹I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

¹ با چشمان خود پیمان بستم که به هیچ دختری با نظر شهوت نگاه نکنم.

²For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

² چون می‌دانم که خدای قادر مطلق چه بلایی بر سر چنین افرادی می‌آورد.

³Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

³ او بر سر مردم شریر و بدکار از آسمان بلا و مصیبت نازل می‌کند.

⁴Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

⁴ او هر کاری که می‌کنم و هر قدمی که برمی‌دارم، می‌بیند.

⁵If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

⁵ من هرگز به راه غلط نرفته‌ام و کسی را فریب نداده‌ام.

⁶Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

⁶ می‌خواهم خدا خودش مرا با ترازوی عدالت بسنجد تا بی‌گناهی من ثابت شود.

⁷If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

⁷ اگر از راه راست منحرف شده باشم، یا دلم دنبال آنچه که چشمم خواسته است، رفته باشد و یا دستم به گناه آلوده شده باشد،

⁸Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

⁸ آن وقت چیزی را که کاشته‌ام، دیگران بخورند و همهٔ محصولات من از ریشه کنده شوند.

⁹If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

⁹ اگر دلم فریفتهٔ زن مرد دیگری شده باشد، یا در کمین زن همسایه باشم،

¹⁰Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

¹⁰ پس زن من هم، کنیز مرد دیگری شود. دیگران با او همبستر شوند.

¹¹For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

¹¹ زیرا این کار جنایت است و عامل آن سزاوار مجازات می‌باشد

¹²For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

¹² و مثل آتشِ سوزانِ دنیای مردگان می‌تواند همه‌چیز مرا از بین ببرد و محصول مرا ریشه‌کن سازد.

¹³If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

¹³ اگر شکایت کنیز و غلام خود را علیه خود نشنیده و با آنها از روی انصاف رفتار نکرده باشم،

¹⁴What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

¹⁴ چطور می‌توانم با خدا روبه‌رو شوم و وقتی‌که از من بازخواست کند، چه جوابی می‌توانم به او بدهم.

¹⁵Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁵ زیرا همان خدایی که مرا آفریده، کنیز و غلام مرا هم خلق کرده است.

¹⁶If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

¹⁶ از کمک به مردم مسکین خودداری نکرده‌ام، بیوه زنی را در حال بیچارگی ترک نکرده‌ام،

¹⁷Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

¹⁷ نان خود را به تنهایی نخورده‌ام و آن را همیشه با یتیمان گرسنه قسمت کرده

¹⁸(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

¹⁸ و در سراسر عمر خود برای آنها مثل پدری غمخوار بودم و از کودکی، راهنمای بیوه‌زنان بوده‌ام.

¹⁹If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

¹⁹ اگر می‌دیدم که کسی لباس ندارد و از سرما در خطر است و یا شخص مسکینی برهنه به سر می‌برد،

²⁰If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²⁰ از پشم گوسفندانم لباس می‌دوختم و به او می‌دادم تا از سردی هوا در امان بوده، از صمیم دل برای من دعا کند و من برکت ببینم.

²¹If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

²¹ اگر به‌خاطر اینکه در دادگاه نفوذ دارم، حق یتیمی را پایمال کرده باشم،

²²Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

²² بازوی من از شانه قطع شود و دستم بشکند.

²³For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

²³ چون من از مجازات و عظمت خدا می‌ترسیدم هرگز جرأت نمی‌کردم که به چنین کاری دست بزنم.

²⁴If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

²⁴ به طلا و نقره اعتماد و اتّکا نداشته‌ام

²⁵If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

²⁵ و ثروت زیاد مایهٔ خوشی من نبوده است.

²⁶If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

²⁶ به آفتاب تابان و مهتاب درخشان دل نبسته‌ام.

²⁷And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

²⁷ آنها را نپرستیده و از دور نبوسیده‌ام.

²⁸This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

²⁸ زیرا این کار هم گناه است و اگر آن کار را می‌کردم، مستوجب مجازات می‌بودم، چون با این کار، خدای متعال را منکر می‌شدم.

²⁹If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

²⁹ هرگز از مصیبت دشمنان شاد نشده‌ام و از بلایی که بر سرشان آمده است، خوشحال نبوده‌ام.

³⁰Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

³⁰ زبان خود را از گناه بازداشته و برای آنها دعای بد نکرده‌ام.

³¹If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

³¹ آنهایی که برای من کار می‌کنند هرگز گرسنه نبوده‌اند.

³²The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

³² هیچ غریبه‌ای را نگذاشته‌ام که شب در کوچه بخوابد، بلکه درِ خانهٔ من، همیشه به روی مسافران باز بوده است.

³³If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

³³ هیچ‌گاه مثل دیگران سعی نکرده‌ام که از ترسِ سرزنش مردم، گناهان خود را پنهان کنم و خاموش در خانه مانده و بیرون نروم.

³⁴Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

³⁴ آیا کسی هست که به سخنان من گوش بدهد؟ من قسم می‌خورم که حقیقت را می‌گویم. بگذارید قادر مطلق جواب مرا بگوید، و اتّهاماتی را که علیه من وارد کرده‌اند، نشان بدهد.

³⁵Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

³⁵ من آنها را به گردن می‌گیرم و تاج سر خود می‌سازم.

³⁶Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

³⁶ همهٔ کارهایی را که کرده‌ام، برای او بیان می‌کنم و با سرفرازی در حضور او می‌ایستم.

³⁷I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

³⁷ اگر زمینی را که در آن کشت می‌کنم از مالک اصلی‌اش بزور گرفته باشم،

³⁸If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

³⁸ و از محصول آن بدون قیمت خورده و باعث قتل مالک آن شده باشم، در آن زمین به عوض گندم، خار و به جای جو، علف هرزه بروید. سخنان ایّوب پایان گرفت.

³⁹If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

³⁹ در آن زمین به عوض گندم، خار و به جای جو، علف هرزه بروید. سخنان ایّوب پایان گرفت.

⁴⁰Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
