¹Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

¹ حال ای ایّوب با دقّت به سخنان من گوش بده.

²Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

² می‌خواهم آنچه را که در نظر دارم به تو بگویم.

³My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

³ حرفهای من از صمیم دل، صادقانه و حقیقت است.

⁴The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

⁴ زیرا روح خدا مرا سرشته و نَفَس قادر متعال به من زندگی بخشیده است.

⁵If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

⁵ اگر می‌توانی جواب مرا بدهی، درنگ نکن.

⁶Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

⁶ من و تو در نظر خدا فرقی نداریم. او هردوی ما را از گِل سرشته است.

⁷Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

⁷ پس تو نباید از من ترس و وحشت داشته باشی و من بر تو فشار نمی‌آورم.

⁸Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

⁸ شنیدم که گفتی:

⁹I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

⁹ «من پاک هستم و خطایی نکرده‌ام. بی‌عیب هستم و گناهی ندارم.

¹⁰Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

¹⁰ خدا بهانه می‌جوید تا گناهی در من بیابد و مرا دشمن خود می‌شمارد.

¹¹He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

¹¹ پاهایم را به زنجیر می‌بندد و در هر قدم مراقب من است.»

¹²Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

¹² امّا ایّوب، من تو را قانع می‌سازم که تو اشتباه می‌‌کنی. خدا بزرگتر از همهٔ انسانهاست.

¹³Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

¹³ چرا خدا را متّهم می‌‌کنی و می‌گویی که او برای کارهایی که می‌کند به انسان توضیح نمی‌دهد.

¹⁴For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

¹⁴ خدا به راههای مختلف با انسان صحبت می‌کند، امّا کسی به کلام او توجّه نمی‌نماید.

¹⁵In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

¹⁵ در شب، وقتی انسان در خواب عمیق فرو می‌رود، در رؤیا با او حرف می‌زند.

¹⁶Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

¹⁶ گوشهای او را باز می‌کند. او را می‌ترساند و اخطار می‌دهد

¹⁷That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

¹⁷ خدا سخن می‌گوید تا او را از گناه کردن باز دارد و از مغرور شدن رهایی‌اش‌‌ بخشد،

¹⁸He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

¹⁸ تا از مرگ و هلاکت نجات یابد.

¹⁹He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

¹⁹ خدا انسان را با درد و بیماری سرزنش می‌کند.

²⁰So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

²⁰ در اثر مرض، انسان اشتهای خود را از دست می‌دهد به طوری که حتّی از لذیذترین غذاها هم بدش می‌آید.

²¹His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

²¹ آن‌قدر لاغر می‌شود که از او فقط پوست و استخوان بجا می‌ماند.

²²Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

²² پایش به لب گور می‌رسد و به دنیای مردگان نزدیک می‌شود.

²³If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

²³ امّا اگر یکی از هزاران فرشتهٔ خدا حاضر باشد و از او شفاعت نموده و بگوید که بی‌گناه است،

²⁴Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

²⁴ آنگاه بر او رحم کرده، می‌فرماید: «آزادش کنید و نگذارید که هلاک شود، زیرا کفّاره‌ای برایش یافته‌ام.»

²⁵His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:

²⁵ بدن او دوباره جوان و قوی می‌گردد.

²⁶He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

²⁶ هر وقت به حضور خدا دعا کند، خدا دعایش را می‌پذیرد و او با شادمانی در پیشگاه او حضور می‌یابد و خدا سعادت گذشته‌اش را به او بازمی‌گرداند.

²⁷He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

²⁷ بعد او سرود می‌خواند و به مردم می‌گوید: «من گناه کردم و از راه راست منحرف شدم،

²⁸He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

²⁸ امّا خدا گناهان مرا بخشید و مرا از مرگ و هلاکت نجات داد.»

²⁹Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

²⁹ خدا بارها این کارها را برای انسان انجام می‌دهد،

³⁰To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

³⁰ تا جان او را از هلاکت برهاند و از نور حیات برخوردارش سازد.

³¹Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

³¹ ایّوب، سخنان مرا بشنو و خاموش باش و به آنچه می‌گویم توجّه کن.

³²If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

³² امّا اگر چیزی برای گفتن داری، بگو. من می‌خواهم بشنوم و اگر گفتارت درست باشد، قبول می‌کنم. وگرنه ساکت باش و به من گوش بده تا به تو حکمت بیاموزم.

³³If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

³³ وگرنه ساکت باش و به من گوش بده تا به تو حکمت بیاموزم.
