¹These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

¹ «این چیزها را به شما گفتم تا ایمانتان سست نشود.

²They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

² شما را از کنیسه‌ها بیرون خواهند كرد و در حقیقت زمانی می‌آید كه هرکه شما را بكشد، گمان می‌کند كه با این كار به خدا خدمت می‌نماید.

³And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

³ این كارها را با شما خواهند كرد، زیرا نه پدر را می‌شناسند و نه مرا.

⁴But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

⁴ این چیزها را به شما گفتم تا وقتی زمان وقوع آنها برسد گفتار مرا به‌خاطر آورید. «این چیزها را در اول به شما نگفتم زیرا خودم با شما بودم

⁵But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

⁵ امّا اكنون پیش کسی‌که مرا فرستاد می‌روم و هیچ‌یک از شما نمی‌پرسید 'كجا می‌روی؟'

⁶But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁶ ولی چون این چیزها را به شما گفتم دلهای شما پر از غم شد.

⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁷ با وجود این، این حقیقت را به شما می‌گویم كه رفتن من برای شما بهتر است زیرا اگر من نروم پشتیبانتان پیش شما نمی‌آید امّا اگر بروم او را نزد شما خواهم فرستاد

⁸And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

⁸ و وقتی او می‌آید جهان را در مورد گناه، عدالت و داوری متقاعد می‌سازد.

⁹Of sin, because they believe not on me;

⁹ گناه را نشان خواهد داد چون به من ایمان نیاوردند،

¹⁰Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

¹⁰ عدالت را مكشوف خواهد ساخت چون من پیش پدر می‌روم و دیگر مرا نخواهند دید؛

¹¹Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹¹ و واقعیّت داوری به آنها ثابت می‌شود چون حكمران این جهان محكوم شده است.

¹²I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

¹² «چیزهای بسیاری هست كه باید به شما بگویم ولی شما فعلاً طاقت شنیدن آنها را ندارید.

¹³Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

¹³ در هر حال، وقتی او كه روح راستی است بیاید شما را به تمام حقیقت رهبری خواهد كرد، زیرا از خود سخن نخواهد گفت بلكه فقط دربارهٔ آنچه بشنود سخن می‌گوید و شما را از امور آینده باخبر می‌سازد.

¹⁴He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁴ او مرا جلال خواهد داد، زیرا حقایقی را كه از من دریافت كرده به شما اعلام خواهد نمود.

¹⁵All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁵ هرچه پدر دارد از آن من است و به همین دلیل بود كه گفتم: حقایقی را كه از من دریافت كرده به شما اعلام خواهد نمود.

¹⁶A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

¹⁶ «بعد از مدّتی، دیگر مرا نمی‌بینید ولی باز بعد از چند روز مرا خواهید دید.»

¹⁷Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁷ پس بعضی از شاگردان به یكدیگر گفتند: «چرا او می‌گوید: بعد از مدّتی دیگر مرا نخواهید دید ولی باز بعد از مدّتی مرا خواهید دید، چون به نزد پدر می‌روم؟ مقصود او از این سخن چیست؟»

¹⁸They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

¹⁸ سپس آنها گفتند: «این مدّتی كه او دربارهٔ آن سخن می‌گوید چیست؟ ما نمی‌دانیم دربارهٔ چه چیزی صحبت می‌کند.»

¹⁹Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

¹⁹ عیسی فهمید كه آنها می‌خواهند در این باره از او چیزی بپرسند، پس به آنها گفت: «من به شما گفتم كه بعد از مدّتی، دیگر مرا نخواهید دید ولی باز بعد از مدّتی مرا خواهید دید. آیا بحث شما دربارهٔ این است؟

²⁰Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²⁰ یقین بدانید كه شما اشک خواهید ریخت و ماتم خواهید گرفت ولی جهان شادی خواهد كرد. شما غمیگن خواهید شد ولی غم شما به شادی مبدّل خواهد گشت.

²¹A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

²¹ یک زن در وقت زایمان درد می‌کشد و از درد ناراحت است امّا به محض اینكه طفل به دنیا می‌آید درد و ناراحتی خود را فراموش می‌کند به‌خاطر اینكه یک انسان به جهان آمده است.

²²And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

²² شما هم همین‌طور، اكنون غمگین و ناراحت هستید ولی شما را باز هم خواهم دید و در آن وقت شادمان خواهید شد و هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند این شادی را از شما بگیرد.

²³And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

²³ «در آن روز دیگر از من چیزی نخواهید پرسید، یقین بدانید كه هرچه به نام من از پدر بخواهید به شما خواهد داد.

²⁴Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁴ تاكنون چیزی به نام من نخواسته‌اید، بخواهید تا به دست آورید و شادی شما كامل گردد.

²⁵These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

²⁵ «تا به حال با مَثَل و كنایه با شما سخن گفته‌ام ولی زمانی خواهد آمد كه دیگر با مَثَل و كنایه با شما صحبت نخواهم كرد، بلكه واضح و بی‌پرده دربارهٔ پدر با شما سخن خواهم گفت.

²⁶At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

²⁶ وقتی آن روز برسد خواهش خود را به نام من از خدا خواهید كرد و من نمی‌گویم كه برای شما از پدر تقاضا خواهم نمود،

²⁷For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁷ زیرا پدر خودش شما را دوست دارد چون شما مرا دوست داشته‌اید و قبول کرده‌اید كه من از جانب خدا آمده‌ام.

²⁸I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

²⁸ من از نزد پدر آمدم و به جهان وارد شدم و اكنون جهان را ترک می‌کنم و به سوی پدر می‌روم.»

²⁹His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

²⁹ شاگردان به او گفتند: «حالا به طور واضح و بدون اشاره و كنایه سخن می‌گویی.

³⁰Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³⁰ ما اكنون مطمئن هستیم كه تو همه‌چیز را می‌دانی و لازم نیست کسی چیزی از تو بپرسد و به این دلیل است كه ما ایمان داریم تو از نزد خدا آمده‌ای.»

³¹Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

³¹ عیسی پاسخ داد: «آیا حالا ایمان دارید؟

³²Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³² ببینید، ساعتی می‌آید -‌و در واقع هم اكنون شروع شده است- كه همهٔ شما پراكنده می‌شوید و به خانه‌های خود می‌روید و مرا تنها می‌گذارید. با وجود این، من تنها نیستم، زیرا پدر با من است. این چیزها را به شما گفتم تا در اتّحاد با من آرامش داشته باشید. در جهان رنج و زحمت خواهید داشت. ولی شجاع باشید، من بر دنیا چیره شده‌ام.»

³³These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

³³ این چیزها را به شما گفتم تا در اتّحاد با من آرامش داشته باشید. در جهان رنج و زحمت خواهید داشت. ولی شجاع باشید، من بر دنیا چیره شده‌ام.»
