¹Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

¹ امّا عیسی به كوه زیتون رفت

²And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

² و صبح زود باز به معبد بزرگ آمد و همهٔ مردم به دور او جمع شدند و او نشست و به تعلیم دادن آنها مشغول شد.

³And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

³ در این وقت علما و فریسیان زنی را كه در هنگام عمل زنا گرفته بودند پیش او آوردند و در وسط برپا داشتند

⁴They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

⁴ آنان به او گفتند: «ای استاد، این زن را در هنگام عمل زنا گرفته‌ایم.

⁵Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

⁵ موسی در تورات به ما دستور داده است كه چنین زنهایی باید سنگسار شوند. امّا تو در این باره چه می‌گویی؟»

⁶This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

⁶ آنان از روی امتحان این را گفتند تا دلیلی برای اتّهام او پیدا كنند. امّا عیسی سر بزیر افكند و با انگشت خود روی زمین می‌نوشت.

⁷So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁷ ولی چون آنان با اصرار به سؤال خود ادامه دادند، عیسی سر خود را بلند كرد و گفت: «آن کسی‌که در میان شما بی‌گناه است سنگ اول را به او بزند.»

⁸And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

⁸ عیسی باز سر خود را بزیر افكند و بر زمین می‌نوشت.

⁹And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

⁹ وقتی آنها این را شنیدند، از پیران شروع كرده یک به یک بیرون رفتند و عیسی تنها با آن زن كه در وسط ایستاده بود، باقی ماند.

¹⁰When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

¹⁰ عیسی سر خود را بلند كرد و به آن زن گفت: «آنها كجا رفتند؟ کسی تو را محكوم نكرد؟»

¹¹She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹¹ زن گفت: «هیچ‌کس ای آقا.» عیسی گفت: «من هم تو را محكوم نمی‌کنم، برو و دیگر گناه نكن.»]

¹²Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹² عیسی باز به مردم گفت: «من نور جهان هستم، کسی‌که از من پیروی كند در تاریكی سرگردان نخواهد شد، بلكه نور حیات را خواهد داشت.»

¹³The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

¹³ فریسیان به او گفتند: «تو دربارهٔ خودت شهادت می‌دهی پس شهادت تو اعتباری ندارد.»

¹⁴Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

¹⁴ عیسی در پاسخ گفت: «من حتّی اگر بر خود شهادت بدهم، شهادتم معتبر است، زیرا من می‌دانم از كجا آمده‌ام و به كجا می‌روم ولی شما نمی‌دانید كه من از كجا آمده‌ام و به كجا می‌روم.

¹⁵Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

¹⁵ شما از نظر انسانی قضاوت می‌کنید، ولی من دربارهٔ هیچ‌کس چنین قضاوت نمی‌کنم.

¹⁶And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁶ اگر قضاوت هم بكنم قضاوت من درست است، چون در این كار تنها نیستم، بلكه پدری كه مرا فرستاد نیز با من است.

¹⁷It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁷ در شریعت شما هم نوشته شده است، كه گواهی دو شاهد معتبر است:

¹⁸I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

¹⁸ یکی خود من هستم كه برخود شهادت می‌دهم و شاهد دیگر، پدری است كه مرا فرستاد.»

¹⁹Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

¹⁹ به او گفتند: «پدر تو كجاست؟» عیسی پاسخ داد: «شما نه مرا می‌شناسید و نه پدر مرا. اگر مرا می‌شناختید پدر مرا نیز می‌شناختید.»

²⁰These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

²⁰ عیسی این سخنان را هنگامی‌که در بیت‌المال معبد بزرگ تعلیم می‌داد گفت و کسی به طرف او دست دراز نكرد، زیرا وقت او هنوز نرسیده بود.

²¹Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²¹ باز عیسی به ایشان گفت: «من می‌روم و شما به دنبال من خواهید گشت ولی در گناهان خود خواهید مرد و به جایی‌که من می‌روم نمی‌توانید بیایید.»

²²Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

²² یهودیان به یكدیگر گفتند: «وقتی می‌گوید جایی‌که من می‌روم شما نمی‌توانید بیایید، آیا منظورش این است كه او می‌خواهد خودش را بكشد؟»

²³And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²³ عیسی به آنها گفت: «شما به این عالم پایین تعلّق دارید و من از عالم بالا آمده‌ام، شما از این جهان هستید، ولی من از این جهان نیستم.

²⁴I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

²⁴ به این جهت به شما گفتم كه در گناهان خود خواهید مرد. اگر ایمان نیاورید كه من او هستم، در گناهان خود خواهید مرد.»

²⁵Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

²⁵ آنان از او پرسیدند: «تو كیستی؟» عیسی جواب داد: «من همان کسی هستم كه از اول هم به شما گفتم.

²⁶I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

²⁶ چیزهای زیادی دارم كه دربارهٔ شما بگویم و داوری نمایم امّا فرستندهٔ من حق است و من آنچه را كه از او شنیده‌ام به جهان اعلام می‌کنم.»

²⁷They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

²⁷ آنها نفهمیدند كه او دربارهٔ پدر با آنان صحبت می‌کند.

²⁸Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

²⁸ به همین دلیل عیسی به آنان گفت: «وقتی شما پسر انسان را از زمین بلند كردید آن وقت خواهید دانست كه من او هستم و از خود كاری نمی‌کنم، بلكه همان‌طور كه پدر به من تعلیم داده است سخن می‌گویم.

²⁹And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

²⁹ فرستندهٔ من با من است. پدر مرا تنها نگذاشته است، زیرا من همیشه آنچه او را خشنود می‌سازد به عمل می‌آورم.»

³⁰As he spake these words, many believed on him.

³⁰ در نتیجهٔ این سخنان بسیاری به او گرویدند.

³¹Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

³¹ سپس عیسی به یهودیانی كه به او گرویده بودند گفت: «اگر مطابق تعالیم من عمل كنید، در واقع شاگردان من خواهید بود

³²And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³² و حقیقت را خواهید شناخت و حقیقت شما را آزاد خواهد كرد.»

³³They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

³³ آنها به او جواب دادند: «ما فرزندان ابراهیم هستیم و هرگز بردهٔ كسی نبوده‌ایم. مقصود تو از اینكه می‌گویی شما آزاد خواهید شد چیست؟»

³⁴Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

³⁴ عیسی به ایشان گفت: «یقین بدانید كه هرکسی كه گناه می‌کند بردهٔ گناه است

³⁵And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

³⁵ و برده همیشه در میان اهل خانه نمی‌ماند ولی پسر همیشه می‌ماند.

³⁶If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

³⁶ پس اگر پسر، شما را آزاد سازد واقعاً آزاد خواهید بود.

³⁷I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

³⁷ می‌دانم كه شما فرزندان ابراهیم هستید. امّا چون تعالیم من در دلهای شما جایی ندارد، می‌خواهید مرا بكشید.

³⁸I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

³⁸ من دربارهٔ آنچه در حضور پدر دیده‌ام سخن می‌گویم و شما هم آنچه را از پدر خود آموخته‌‌اید، انجام می‌دهید.»

³⁹They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

³⁹ آنها در پاسخ گفتند: «ابراهیم پدر ماست.» عیسی به آنها گفت: «اگر فرزندان ابراهیم می‌بودید، کارهای او را بجا می‌آورید،

⁴⁰But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

⁴⁰ ولی حالا می‌خواهید مرا بكشید، درحالی‌که من همان کسی هستم كه حقیقت را آن‌چنان‌که از خدا شنیده‌ام به شما می‌گویم. ابراهیم چنین کاری نكرد.

⁴¹Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

⁴¹ شما كارهای پدر خود را بجا می‌آورید.» آنها به او گفتند: «ما حرامزاده نیستیم، ما یک پدر داریم و آن خود خداست.»

⁴²Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

⁴² عیسی به آنها گفت: «اگر خدا پدر شما می‌بود، مرا دوست می‌داشتید؛ زیرا من از جانب خدا آمده‌ام و در بین شما هستم. من خودسرانه نیامده‌ام، بلكه او مرا فرستاد.

⁴³Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴³ چرا سخنان مرا نمی‌فهمید؟ برای اینكه طاقت شنیدن چنین سخنانی را ندارید.

⁴⁴Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

⁴⁴ شما فرزندان پدر خود، ابلیس هستید و آرزوهای پدر خود را به عمل می‌آورید. او از اول قاتل بود و از راستی بی‌خبر است، چون در او هیچ راستی نیست. وقتی دروغ می‌گوید مطابق سرشت خود رفتار می‌نماید؛ زیرا دروغگو و پدر تمام دروغ‌هاست.

⁴⁵And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

⁴⁵ امّا من چون حقیقت را به شما می‌گویم، به من ایمان نمی‌آورید.

⁴⁶Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁶ کدام‌یک از شما می‌تواند گناهی به من نسبت دهد؟ پس اگر من حقیقت را می‌گویم، چرا به من ایمان نمی‌آورید؟

⁴⁷He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁷ کسی‌که از خدا باشد، به كلام خدا گوش می‌دهد. شما به كلام خدا گوش نمی‌دهید، چون از خدا نیستید.»

⁴⁸Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

⁴⁸ یهودیان در جواب به او گفتند: «آیا درست نگفتیم كه تو سامری هستی و دیو داری؟»

⁴⁹Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

⁴⁹ عیسی گفت: «من دیو ندارم، بلكه به پدر خود احترام می‌گذارم ولی شما مرا بی‌حرمت می‌سازید.

⁵⁰And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

⁵⁰ من طالب جلال خود نیستم، كس دیگری هست كه طالب آن است و او قضاوت می‌کند.

⁵¹Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

⁵¹ یقین بدانید اگر کسی از تعالیم من اطاعت نماید، هرگز نخواهد مرد.»

⁵²Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

⁵² یهودیان به او گفتند: «حالا مطمئن شدیم كه تو دیو داری. ابراهیم و همهٔ انبیا مردند ولی تو می‌گویی: هرکه از تعالیم من اطاعت نماید، هرگز نخواهد مرد.

⁵³Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

⁵³ آیا تو از پدر ما ابراهیم و همهٔ انبیایی كه مرده‌اند بزرگتری؟ فكر می‌کنی كه هستی؟»

⁵⁴Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

⁵⁴ عیسی پاسخ داد: «اگر من خود را آدم بزرگی بدانم این بزرگی ارزشی ندارد، آن پدر من است كه مرا بزرگی و جلال می‌بخشد، همان کسی‌که شما می‌گویید خدای شماست.

⁵⁵Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

⁵⁵ شما هیچ‌وقت او را نشناخته‌اید، امّا من او را می‌شناسم و اگر بگویم كه او را نمی‌شناسم، مانند شما دروغگو خواهم بود، ولی من او را می‌شناسم و آنچه می‌گوید اطاعت می‌کنم.

⁵⁶Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

⁵⁶ پدر شما ابراهیم از اینكه امید داشت روز مرا ببیند، خوشحال بود و آن را دید و شادمان شد.»

⁵⁷Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

⁵⁷ یهودیان به او گفتند: «تو هنوز پنجاه سال هم نداری پس چگونه ممكن است، ابراهیم را دیده باشی؟»

⁵⁸Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

⁵⁸ عیسی به ایشان گفت: «یقین بدانید كه پیش از تولّد ابراهیم، من بوده‌ام و هستم.» آنها سنگ برداشتند كه به سوی عیسی پرتاب كنند ولی از نظر مردم دور شد و معبد بزرگ را ترک كرد و رفت.

⁵⁹Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

⁵⁹ آنها سنگ برداشتند كه به سوی عیسی پرتاب كنند ولی از نظر مردم دور شد و معبد بزرگ را ترک كرد و رفت.
