¹Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

¹ «مواظب باشید كه وظایف دینی خود را برای جلب توجّه مردم در انظار دیگران انجام ندهید زیرا اگر چنین كنید، هیچ اجری نزد پدر آسمانی خود ندارید.

²Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

² «پس هرگاه صدقه می‌دهی آن را با ساز و كرنا اعلام نكن، چنانکه ریاكاران در کنیسه‌ها و خیابانها می‌کنند تا مورد ستایش مردم قرار بگیرند. یقین بدانید كه آنان اجر خود را یافته‌اند!

³But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

³ و امّا تو، هرگاه صدقه می‌دهی، نگذار دست چپ تو از آنچه دست راستت می‌کند آگاه شود.

⁴That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

⁴ از صدقه دادن تو کسی باخبر نشود و پدری كه هیچ چیز از نظر او پنهان نیست، اجر تو را خواهد داد.

⁵And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

⁵ «وقتی دعا می‌کنید مانند ریاكاران نباشید. آنان دوست دارند در کنیسه‌ها و گوشه‌های خیابانها بایستند و دعا بخوانند تا مردم آنان را ببینند. یقین بدانید كه آنها اجر خود را یافته‌اند!

⁶But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

⁶ هرگاه تو دعا می‌کنی به اندرون خانهٔ خود برو، در را ببند و در خلوت، در حضور پدر نادیدهٔ خود دعا كن و پدری كه هیچ چیز از نظر او پنهان نیست، اجر تو را خواهد داد.

⁷But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

⁷ در وقت دعا مانند بت‌پرستان وِردهای بی‌معنی را تكرار نكنید، آنان گمان می‌کنند با تكرار زیاد، دعایشان مستجاب می‌شود.

⁸Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

⁸ پس مثل ایشان نباشید زیرا پدر شما احتیاجات شما را پیش از آنكه از او بخواهید می‌داند.

⁹After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

⁹ پس شما این‌طور دعا كنید: 'ای پدر آسمانی ما، نام تو مقدّس باد.

¹⁰Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

¹⁰ پادشاهی تو بیاید. ارادهٔ تو همان‌طور كه در آسمان اجرا می‌شود، در زمین نیز اجرا شود.

¹¹Give us this day our daily bread.

¹¹ نان روزانهٔ ما را امروز به ما بده.

¹²And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

¹² خطاهای ما را ببخش، چنانکه ما نیز خطاکاران خود را می‌بخشیم.

¹³And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

¹³ ما را در وسوسه‌ها میاور بلکه ما را از شریر رهایی ده، زیرا پادشاهی و قدرت و جلال تا ابدالآباد از آن توست. آمین.'

¹⁴For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

¹⁴ «چون اگر شما خطاهای دیگران را ببخشید پدر آسمانی شما نیز شما را خواهد بخشید.

¹⁵But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹⁵ امّا اگر شما مردم را نبخشید پدر آسمانی شما نیز خطاهای شما را نخواهد بخشید.

¹⁶Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

¹⁶ «وقتی روزه می‌گیرید مانند ریاكاران، خودتان را پریشان نشان ندهید. آنان قیافه‌های خود را تغییر می‌دهند تا روزه‌دار بودن خود را به رُخ دیگران بكشند. یقین بدانید كه آنها اجر خود را یافته‌اند!

¹⁷But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

¹⁷ امّا تو وقتی روزه می‌گیری، سر خود را شانه کُن و صورت خود را بشوی

¹⁸That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

¹⁸ تا مردم از روزهٔ تو باخبر نشوند، بلكه فقط پدر تو كه در نهان است، آن را بداند و پدری كه هیچ چیز از نظر او پنهان نیست، اجر تو را خواهد داد.

¹⁹Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

¹⁹ «گنجهای خود را بر روی زمین، جایی‌که بید و زنگ به آن زیان می‌رساند و دزدان نقب زده آن را می‌دزدند، ذخیره نكنید.

²⁰But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

²⁰ بلكه گنجهای خود را در عالم بالا، یعنی در جایی‌که بید و زنگ به آن آسیبی نمی‌رسانند و دزدان نقب نمی‌زنند و آن را نمی‌دزدند، ذخیره كنید.

²¹For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

²¹ زیرا هرجا گنج توست، دل تو نیز در آنجا خواهد بود.

²²The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

²² «چراغ بدن، چشم است. اگر چشم تو سالم باشد، تمام وجودت روشن است

²³But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

²³ امّا اگر چشم تو سالم نباشد تمام وجودت در تاریكی خواهد بود. پس اگر آن نوری كه در توست تاریک باشد، آن، چه تاریکی عظیمی خواهد بود!

²⁴No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

²⁴ «هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند بندهٔ دو ارباب باشد، چون یا از اولی بدش می‌آید و دومی را دوست دارد و یا به اولی ارادت پیدا می‌کند و دومی را حقیر می‌شمارد. شما نمی‌توانید هم بندهٔ خدا باشید و هم در بند مال.

²⁵Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

²⁵ «بنابراین به شما می‌گویم: برای زندگی خود نگران نباشید، كه چه بخورید و یا چه بیاشامید و نه برای بدن خود كه چه بپوشید، زیرا زندگی از غذا و بدن از لباس مهمتر است.

²⁶Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

²⁶ به پرندگان نگاه كنید: آنها نه می‌كارند، نه درو می‌کنند و نه در انبارها ذخیره می‌کنند، ولی پدر آسمانی شما روزیِ آنها را می‌دهد. مگر ارزش شما به‌ مراتب از آنها بیشتر نیست؟

²⁷Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

²⁷ کدام‌یک از شما می‌تواند با نگرانی ساعتی به عمر خود بیافزاید؟

²⁸And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

²⁸ «چرا برای لباس نگران هستید؟ به سوسن‌های صحرا نگاه كنید و ببینید چگونه نمو می‌کنند، آنها نه زحمت می‌کشند و نه می‌ریسند.

²⁹And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

²⁹ ولی بدانید كه حتّی سلیمان هم با آن‌همه حشمت و جلالش مثل یكی از آنها آراسته نشد.

³⁰Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

³⁰ پس اگر خدا علف صحرا را كه امروز هست و فردا در تنور ریخته می‌شود این‌طور می‌آراید، آیا شما را، ای كم‌ایمانان، بمراتب بهتر نخواهد پوشانید!

³¹Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

³¹ «پس نگران نباشید و نگویید: 'چه بخوریم؟ چه بنوشیم؟ و یا چه بپوشیم؟'

³²(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

³² تمام ملل جهان برای به دست آوردن این چیزها تلاش می‌کنند، امّا پدر آسمانی شما می‌داند كه شما به همهٔ این چیزها احتیاج دارید.

³³But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

³³ شما قبل از هر چیز برای به دست آوردن پادشاهی خدا و انجام خواسته‌های او بكوشید، آن وقت همهٔ این چیزها نیز به شما داده خواهد شد. پس نگران فردا نباشید، نگرانی فردا برای فرداست و بدی امروز برای امروز كافی است.

³⁴Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

³⁴ پس نگران فردا نباشید، نگرانی فردا برای فرداست و بدی امروز برای امروز كافی است.
