¹Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

¹ ای مردم اورشلیم، لشکریان خود را جمع کنید و آماده شوید، زیرا شهرتان محاصره شده است! دشمنان به رهبر اسرائیل حمله می‌کنند.

²But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

² ای بیت‌لحم افراته، گرچه تو از کوچکترین شهرهای یهودا هستی، ولی از تو پیشوایی ظهور می‌کند که نسل او از قدیم وجود داشته است. او بر قوم اسرائیل حکمرانی خواهد کرد.

³Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

³ خداوند قوم خود را تا زمانی که زن حامله پسری به دنیا بیاورد، به دست دشمن تسلیم می‌کند. آنگاه بقیّهٔ مردمی که در تبعید به سر می‌برند به وطن خود بازمی‌گردند و با سایر قوم اسرائیل در یک‌‌جا جمع می‌شوند.

⁴And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

⁴ وقتی آن پیشوا بیاید، با قدرت و جلال خداوند خدای خود، مردم خود را رهبری می‌کند. قوم او در آرامش و امنیّت به سر می‌برند، زیرا مردم سراسر روی زمین از بزرگی و عظمت او آگاه می‌شوند.

⁵And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

⁵ او صلح را به جهان می‌آورد. وقتی مردم آشور به سرزمین ما حمله کنند و استحکامات دفاعی ما را درهم شکنند، ما رهبران شجاع و نیرومند خود را به مقابلهٔ آنها می‌فرستیم.

⁶And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

⁶ آنها با زور شمشیر بر آشور، سرزمین نمرود حکمرانی می‌کنند. اگر آشوریان به سرزمین ما حمله کنند، او ما را از دست آنها نجات می‌دهد.

⁷And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

⁷ آنگاه بازماندگان قوم اسرائیل که در بین اقوام دیگر زندگی می‌کنند، برای آنها مانند شبنم و باران از جانب خداوند برکت می‌آورند. آنها به خداوند توکّل می‌کنند، نه به انسان.

⁸And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

⁸ بازماندگان اسرائیل در بین اقوام دیگر مانند شیر در میان حیوانات جنگل و رمه‌های گوسفند خواهند بود که هنگام عبور همه را پایمال می‌کند و می‌دَرَد و کسی نمی‌تواند آنها را نجات بدهد.

⁹Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.

⁹ بنی‌اسرائیل بر دشمنانشان غالب می‌شوند و همهٔ آنها را از بین می‌برند.

¹⁰And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:

¹⁰ خداوند می‌فرماید: «در آن روز تمام اسبها و ارّابه‌های شما را نابود می‌سازم.

¹¹And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:

¹¹ همهٔ شهرهای شما را با قلعه‌هایش خراب می‌کنم.

¹²And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:

¹² جادوگری را در میان شما از بین می‌برم و به زندگی فالگیران خاتمه می‌دهم.

¹³Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.

¹³ بُتها و مجسمه‌های سنگی شما را می‌شکنم و دیگر چیزهای ساختهٔ دست خود را سجده و پرستش نخواهید کرد.

¹⁴And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.

¹⁴ مجسمه‌های الههٔ اشره را از جا خواهم کند و شهرهایتان را ویران می‌کنم و با خشم و غضب خود از آن اقوامی که از من اطاعت نمی‌کنند انتقام می‌گیرم.»

¹⁵And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.

¹⁵ و با خشم و غضب خود از آن اقوامی که از من اطاعت نمی‌کنند انتقام می‌گیرم.»
