¹He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

¹ اى نینوا، دشمنان بر تو حمله مى‌آورند و با نیروى نظامى خود تو را خراب و ویران مى‌کنند. پس دیوارهایت را محافظت و از جاده‌هایت مراقبت نما. قوایت را جمع کن و براى جنگ آماده باش.

²For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

² (دشمنان، شکوه و عزّت اسرائیل را از بین بردند، امّا خداوند دوباره آن را به آنها برمى‌گرداند، همان‌گونه که قبل از حملهٔ دشمن بود.)

³The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.

³ دشمنان با سپرهاى سرخ مسلّح هستند، لباسهاى قرمز نظامى پوشیده‌اند. آنها آمادهٔ حمله می‌شوند! ارّابه‌های آنها مثل آتش می‌درخشد! اسبهای آنها سُمهایشان را بر زمین می‌کوبند.

⁴The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

⁴ ارّابه‌ها در جاده‌ها و میدانها به سرعت پیش مى‌روند. مانند مشعل مى‌درخشند و مثل برق مى‌دوند.

⁵He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.

⁵ سرکردگان نظامى احضار مى‌شوند همان‌طور که به جلو می‌روند می‌لغزند. با عجله به‌ طرف دیوارها مى‌دوند و منجنیق‌هاى خود را آماده مى‌کنند.

⁶The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

⁶ بندهاى آب باز شده‌اند و کاخ شاهى به وحشت افتاده است.

⁷And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

⁷ ملکه را برهنه کرده با خود به اسیرى برده‌اند و کنیزانش مانند فاخته ناله مى‌کنند و سینه‌زنان به دنبالش مى‌روند.

⁸But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.

⁸ شهر نینوا مانند حوض آبى است که سوراخ شده باشد، ساکنان آن فرار مى‌کنند و به فریاد کسانى‌‌که آنها را از فرار بازمى‌دارند، توجّه نمى‌کنند.

⁹Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

⁹ خزانه‌هاى شهر پُر از اشیاى نفیس است. نقره‌ها را تاراج کنید! طلاها را به یغما ببرید!

¹⁰She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

¹⁰ شهر نینوا، ویران و متروک شده است. دلها از ترس فرو مى‌ریزد، زانوها مى‌لرزند، براى مردم نیرویی نمانده و رنگ از چهره‌ها پریده است.

¹¹Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?

¹¹ کجاست آن شهرى که زمانى بیشهٔ شیرمردان و مسکن شیر بچّه‌ها بود. شهری که شیرهای نر و شیرهای جوان به آن می‌روند و شیربچگان در آن امنیّت دارند.

¹²The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

¹² مردانش مثل شیر دشمنان را مى‌دریدند و همسر و فرزندان خود را با شکار سیر مى‌کردند و خانه‌هایشان از اجساد دریده شده پُر بود. خداوند متعال مى‌فرماید: «من دشمن تو هستم! ارّابه‌هایت را مى‌سوزانم. سربازانت را در جنگ هلاک مى‌کنم. تمام مال و دارایى را که از مردم گرفته‌اى، از تو مى‌گیرم و دیگر کسى به پیغام و تقاضایت توجّهى نمى‌کند.»

¹³Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

¹³ خداوند متعال مى‌فرماید: «من دشمن تو هستم! ارّابه‌هایت را مى‌سوزانم. سربازانت را در جنگ هلاک مى‌کنم. تمام مال و دارایى را که از مردم گرفته‌اى، از تو مى‌گیرم و دیگر کسى به پیغام و تقاضایت توجّهى نمى‌کند.»
