¹The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

¹ خداوند این پیام را که در مورد نینوا بود، در رؤیا به ناحوم القوشى داد:

²God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

² خداوند، خداى غیور و انتقام گیرنده است. او با خشم و غضب انتقام مى‌گیرد و دشمنان خود را مجازات مى‌کند.

³The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

³ خداوند خیلى زود خشمگین نمى‌شود، امّا او قادر و تواناست و گناه را هرگز بى‌سزا نمى‌گذارد. قدرت خداوند را مى‌توان در توفان و گردباد مشاهده کرد. ابرها خاک زیر پاى او مى‌باشند.

⁴He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

⁴ به فرمان او رودها و دریاها خشک مى‌شوند. کشتزارهاى سرسبز باشان و کوه کرمل از بین مى‌روند و گُلهاى لبنان پژمرده مى‌گردند.

⁵The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

⁵ در برابر او کوهها تکان مى‌خورند؛ و تپّه‌ها هموار مى‌شوند. جهان به لرزه می‌آید، دنیا و ساکنینش به وحشت مى‌افتند.

⁶Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

⁶ کیست که بتواند در برابر خشم او مقاومت کند؟ غضب او مثل آتش مى‌ریزد و صخره‌ها در برابر خشم او خُرد مى‌شوند.

⁷The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

⁷ خداوند نیکوست و در روز سختى و مصیبت از بندگان خود حمایت می‌کند و کسانى را که به او توکّل کنند پناه مى‌دهد.

⁸But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

⁸ امّا با سیلاب شدید خشم خود، دشمنان را نابود می‌‌سازد؛ و مخالفین را به کام تاریک مرگ مى‌فرستد.

⁹What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

⁹ چه نقشه‌اى برضد خداوند مى‌توانید بکشید! او ناگهان شما را هلاک خواهد کرد، به طوری که نتوانید بار دیگر در مقابل او بایستید.

¹⁰For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

¹⁰ دشمنان خداوند مانند خارهاى به هم پیچیده و کاه خشک در آتش مى‌سوزند و خاکستر مى‌شوند.

¹¹There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

¹¹ از تو اى نینوا، شخصى پیدا مى‌شود که علیه خداوند توطئه مى‌کند.

¹²Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

¹² خداوند به قوم خود اسرائیل چنین مى‌فرماید: «لشکر آشور هرقدر نیرومند و زیاد باشد، شکست مى‌خورد و نابود مى‌شود. من شما را به ‌قدر کافى مجازات کرده‌ام، امّا دیگر این کار را نمى‌کنم.

¹³For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

¹³ اکنون زنجیر بندگى را از گردنتان برمى‌دارم و شما را از قید اسارت آشوریان آزاد مى‌سازم.»

¹⁴And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

¹⁴ خداوند در مورد آشوریان مى‌فرماید: «نسلى به نام ایشان باقى نخواهد ماند. من بُتهایی را که در پرستشگاههای خدایان ایشان است نابود مى‌کنم و قبر آشوریان را آماده مى‌کنم، زیرا سزاوار زندگی نیستند.» ببینید، قاصدى از فراز کوهها پایین می‌آید و مژدهٔ پیروزى را اعلام مى‌کند. اى مردم یهودا، عیدهاى خود را برگزار کنید و نذرهاى خود را ادا نمایید، زیرا مردم شریر آشور دیگر هرگز بر شما حمله نخواهند کرد. آنها همگى نابود شده‌اند.

¹⁵Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

¹⁵ ببینید، قاصدى از فراز کوهها پایین می‌آید و مژدهٔ پیروزى را اعلام مى‌کند. اى مردم یهودا، عیدهاى خود را برگزار کنید و نذرهاى خود را ادا نمایید، زیرا مردم شریر آشور دیگر هرگز بر شما حمله نخواهند کرد. آنها همگى نابود شده‌اند.
