¹Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

¹ بهتر است انسان فقیر باشد و با صداقت زندگی کند، تا اینکه دروغگویی احمق باشد.

²Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

² داشتن دل و جرأت بدون حکمت بی‌فایده است و عجله باعث اشتباه می‌شود.

³The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.

³ انسان با حماقت خود زندگی خود را تباه می‌کند و بعد گناه را به گردن خداوند می‌اندازد.

⁴Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

⁴ شخص ثروتمند دوستان بسیار پیدا می‌کند، امّا دوستان آدم فقیر از او جدا می‌شوند.

⁵A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

⁵ شاهد دروغگو بی‌سزا نمی‌ماند و کسی‌که همیشه دروغ می‌گوید، جان سالم به در نخواهد برد.

⁶Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

⁶ مردم دوست دارند که پیش بزرگان شیرین زبانی کنند و با کسانی دوست شوند که سخاوتمند هستند.

⁷All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

⁷ وقتی انسان فقیر شود، حتّی خویشاوندانش او را ترک می‌کنند، چه رسد به دوستانش، و کوشش او برای بازیافتن آنها به جایی نمی‌رسد.

⁸He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

⁸ هر که در بدنبال حکمت است، جان خود را دوست دارد و کسی‌که برای حکمت ارزش قایل شود، سعادتمند خواهد شد.

⁹A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

⁹ شاهد دروغگو بی‌سزا نمی‌ماند و کسی‌که همیشه دروغ می‌گوید، هلاک خواهد شد.

¹⁰Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

¹⁰ شایسته نیست که شخص احمق در ناز و نعمت به سر ببرد و یا یک غلام بر امیران حکومت کند.

¹¹The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

¹¹ کسی‌که خشم خود را فرومی‌نشاند، عاقل است و کسی‌که از گناهان دیگران چشم می‌پوشد، سرفراز خواهد شد.

¹²The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

¹² غضب پادشاه مانند غرّش شیر است، امّا خشنودی او مثل شبنمی است که بر سبزه می‌نشیند.

¹³A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

¹³ فرزند نادان، بلای جان والدین خود است و نق زدنهای زن بهانه‌گیر، مانند قطره‌های آبی است که دایم در حال چکیدن می‌باشد.

¹⁴House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

¹⁴ خانه و ثروت از اجداد به ارث می‌رسد، امّا زن عاقل هدیهٔ خداوند است.

¹⁵Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

¹⁵ کسی‌که تنبل است و زیاد می‌خوابد، گرسنه می‌ماند.

¹⁶He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

¹⁶ از احکام خدا پیروی کن تا زنده بمانی، زیرا هرکسی که آنها را ناچیز شمارد، خواهد مرد.

¹⁷He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

¹⁷ وقتی به یک فقیر کمک می‌‌کنی، مثل این است که به خداوند قرض می‌دهی و خداوند است که قرض تو را ادا می‌کند.

¹⁸Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

¹⁸ فرزند خود را وقتی هنوز جوان است تربیت کن؛ اگر غفلت نمایی، زندگی او را تباه خواهی کرد.

¹⁹A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

¹⁹ اگر کسی تندخویی کند، بگذار مجازاتش را ببیند. اگر او را کمک کنی، باید همیشه کار خود را تکرار نمایی.

²⁰Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

²⁰ اگر به پند و نصیحت گوش دهی تا آخر عمر از حکمت برخوردار خواهی بود.

²¹There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

²¹ انسان نقشه‌های زیادی در سر می‌پروراند، امّا نقشه‌هایی که مطابق با خواست خداوند باشد، انجام خواهند شد.

²²The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

²² مهر و وفا زینت انسان است. بهتر است که انسان فقیر باشد نه دروغگو.

²³The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

²³ خداترسی به انسان حیات می‌بخشد و او را کامیاب ساخته از هر بلایی محفوظ می‌دارد.

²⁴A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

²⁴ آدم تنبل دست خود را به سوی بشقاب دراز می‌کند، امّا از فرط تنبلی لقمه را به دهان خود نمی‌گذارد.

²⁵Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

²⁵ شخص مسخره کننده را سرزنش کن تا وسیلهٔ عبرت جاهلان گردد. اشتباهات شخص فهمیده را به او نشان بده تا فهمیده‌تر گردد.

²⁶He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

²⁶ هر که با پدر خود بد رفتاری کند و مادر خود از خانه بیرون کند، ننگ و رسوایی به بار می‌آورد.

²⁷Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

²⁷ فرزندم، از تعلیمی که تو را از عقل دور سازد، خودداری کن.

²⁸An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

²⁸ شاهد فرومایه عدالت را مسخره می‌کند و شریران از گناه کردن لذّت می‌برند. مسخره کنندگان و اشخاص احمق مجازات خواهند شد.

²⁹Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

²⁹ مسخره کنندگان و اشخاص احمق مجازات خواهند شد.
