¹The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

¹ دل پادشاه در دست خداوند است و او آن را مانند آب جوی، به هر سو که بخواهد، هدایت می‌کند.

²Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

² تمام کارهای انسان در نظر خودش درست است، امّا انگیزه‌ها را خداوند می‌بیند.

³To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

³ عدالت و انصاف بیشتر از تقدیم قربانی‌ها خداوند را خشنود می‌سازد.

⁴An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

⁴ چشم مغرور و دل متکبّر، چراغ شرارت است و گناه محسوب می‌گردد.

⁵The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

⁵ نقشهٔ با دقّت، انسان را توانگر می‌کند، امّا عجله باعث فقر می‌شود.

⁶The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.

⁶ ثروتی که از راه دروغگویی به دست می‌آید، همچون بخار به هوا می‌رود و باعث هلاکت می‌گردد.

⁷The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.

⁷ ظلم اشخاص بدکار آنها را نابود می‌کند، چون نمی‌خواهند از راستی پیروی کنند.

⁸The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.

⁸ راه شخص گناهکار کج است، امّا آدم پاک در راه راست قدم برمی‌دارد.

⁹It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

⁹ سکونت در گوشهٔ بام بهتر است از زندگی با زن ستیزه جو، در یک خانهٔ مشترک.

¹⁰The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.

¹⁰ شخص بدکار ظلم را دوست دارد و حتّی همسایه‌اش از دست او در امان نیست.

¹¹When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

¹¹ وقتی مسخره‌کنندگان تنبیه می‌شوند، نادانان درس عبرت می‌گیرند، چون شخص دانا را نصیحت کنی، از آن پند می‌گیرد.

¹²The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.

¹² خدای عادل کارهای خانهٔ مردم بدکار را می‌بیند و آنها را واژگون کرده هلاک می‌سازد.

¹³Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

¹³ کسی‌که فریاد فقیران را نشنیده می‌گیرد، فریاد او نیز در روز تنگدستی شنیده نخواهد شد.

¹⁴A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

¹⁴ آتش خشم را می‌توان با هدیهٔ پنهانی خاموش کرد، رشوه در خفا نیز غضب را فرو می‌نشاند.

¹⁵It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

¹⁵ اجرای عدالت، درستکاران را شاد می‌سازد، امّا شریران را پریشان می‌گرداند.

¹⁶The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

¹⁶ مرگ در انتظار کسانی است که از راه راست منحرف می‌شوند.

¹⁷He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

¹⁷ کسی‌که عیاشی را دوست دارد، فقیر می‌شود و شخص میگسار و عیاش هرگز ثروتمند نخواهد شد.

¹⁸The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

¹⁸ مردم بدکار در همان دامی که برای اشخاص درستکار نهاده‌اند، گرفتار می‌شوند.

¹⁹It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

¹⁹ سکونت در بیابان بی‌آب و علف بهتر است از زندگی کردن با زن ستیزه جو.

²⁰There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

²⁰ خانهٔ شخص دانا پر از ناز و نعمت است، امّا نادان هرچه به دست می‌آورد، برباد می‌دهد.

²¹He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

²¹ درستکار و مهربان باش تا عمر طولانی و با عزّت داشته باشی.

²²A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

²² یک شخص دانا می‌تواند شهر مردان قوی را تسخیر کند و قلعهٔ اعتمادشان را فروریزد.

²³Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

²³ هر که مواظب سخنان خود باشد، جان خود را از مصیبت نجات می‌دهد.

²⁴Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.

²⁴ کسانی‌که دیگران را مسخره می‌کنند، مغرور و متکبّرند.

²⁵The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

²⁵ آرزوی شخص تنبل که از کار کردن خودداری می‌کند باعث هلاکت او می‌شود.

²⁶He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

²⁶ او تمام روز در خواب و خیال به سر می‌برد، امّا شخص درستکار سخاوتمند است و از بخشیدن به دیگران دریغ نمی‌کند.

²⁷The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?

²⁷ خداوند از قربانی‌های مردم بدکار نفرت دارد، مخصوصاً اگر با نیّت بد تقدیم کنند.

²⁸A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.

²⁸ شاهد دروغگو نابود خواهد شد، امّا سخنان شخص راستگو پذیرفته می‌شود.

²⁹A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

²⁹ آدم بدکار بی‌پروا عمل می‌کند، امّا شخص درستکار جوانب امر را می‌سنجد.

³⁰There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

³⁰ هیچ حکمت و بصیرت و نقشه‌ای نمی‌تواند برضد خداوند عمل کند. انسان اسب را برای روز جنگ آماده می‌کند، امّا پیروزی را خداوند می‌بخشد.

³¹The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.
