¹Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

¹ بر اشخاص شریر حسادت نورز و آرزوی دوستی با آنها را نداشته باش،

²For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

² زیرا تمام فکر آنها این است که به مردم ظلم کنند، و هرگاه که دهان باز می‌کنند، دربارهٔ شرارت گفت‌وگو می‌کنند.

³Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

³ خانه بر اساس حکمت و عقل آباد می‌گردد و

⁴And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

⁴ با دانایی اتاقهای آن از اسباب نفیس و گران‌قیمت پُر می‌شوند.

⁵A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

⁵ شخص دانا و فهمیده، از قدرت زیاد برخوردار است و همیشه به قدرت خود می‌افزاید.

⁶For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

⁶ پیروزی در جنگ بستگی به تدبیر خوب و مشورت زیاد دارد.

⁷Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

⁷ شخص احمق نمی‌تواند به حکمت دست یابد. وقتی موضوع مهمی مورد بحث قرار می‌گیرد، او حرفی برای گفتن ندارد.

⁸He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

⁸ کسی‌که دایم نقشه‌های پلید در سر می‌پروراند، دردسرآفرین خوانده خواهد شد.

⁹The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

⁹ نقشه‌های آدم احمق، گناه‌آلودند و کسی‌که دیگران را مسخره می‌کند، مورد نفرت همهٔ مردم می‌باشد.

¹⁰If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

¹⁰ اگر نتوانی سختی‌های زندگی را تحمّل کنی، شخص ضعیفی هستی.

¹¹If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

¹¹ از نجات دادن کسی‌که به ناحق محکوم شده است، کوتاهی نکن.

¹²If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

¹² نگو که از ماجرا بی‌خبر بوده‌ای، زیرا خدایی که جان تو را در دست دارد و از دل تو آگاه است، می‌داند که تو از همه‌چیز باخبر بوده‌ای. او هرکسی را مطابق کارهایش جزا می‌دهد.

¹³My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

¹³ فرزندم، همان‌طور که خوردن عسل دهان تو را شیرین می‌کند، کسب حکمت نیز برای جان تو شیرین خواهد بود. کسی‌که حکمت می‌آموزد، آیندهٔ خوبی در انتظارش می‌باشد و امیدهایش برباد نمی‌رود.

¹⁴So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

¹⁴ مانند بدکاران نباش که منتظر هستند تا خانهٔ مردم درستکار را غارت و ویران کنند،

¹⁵Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

¹⁵ زیرا شخص درستکار حتّی اگر هفت بار هم بیفتد، باز برمی‌خیزد، ولی اشخاص بدکار، گرفتار بلا شده سرنگون می‌گردند.

¹⁶For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

¹⁶ وقتی دشمنانت دچار مصیبت می‌شوند، خوشحال نشو و هنگامی‌که می‌افتند خوشی نکن،

¹⁷Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

¹⁷ زیرا خداوند، این کار تو را می‌بیند و نمی‌پسندد و آنگاه از مجازات آنها دست برمی‌دارد.

¹⁸Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁸ به‌خاطر مردم بدکار، تشویش نداشته باش و به آنها حسادت نورز،

¹⁹Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:

¹⁹ زیرا شخص بدکار، آینده‌ای ندارد و چراغش خاموش می‌شود.

²⁰For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ فرزندم از خداوند و پادشاه بترس و با کسانی‌که علیه آنها شورش می‌‌کنند، همدست نشو.

²¹My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

²¹ زیرا نابودی آنها ناگهانی است و کسی نمی‌داند که خداوند و پادشاه چه بلایی بر سر آنها می‌آورند.

²²For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

²² مردان حکیم این سخنان را نیز گفته‌اند: قاضی نباید در داوری از کسی طرفداری کند.

²³These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

²³ هرکسی که به مجرم بگوید: «تو بی‌گناه هستی»، مورد لعنت و نفرت مردم قرار می‌گیرد.

²⁴He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

²⁴ امّا شخصی که گناهکار را محکوم کند، کامیابی و خوشی نصیبش می‌شود.

²⁵But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

²⁵ پاسخ صادقانه نشانهٔ دوستی حقیقی می‌باشد.

²⁶Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

²⁶ اول کسب و کار خود سر و سامان بده، آنگاه خانه و خانواده تشکیل بده.

²⁷Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

²⁷ برضد همسایه‌ات شهادت دروغ مده و سخنان غلط درباره‌اش بر زبان نیاور.

²⁸Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

²⁸ نگو: «همان بلایی را که بر سر من آورده، بر سر خودش می‌آورم.»

²⁹Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

²⁹ از کنار مزرعهٔ آدم تنبل و تاکستان شخص نادان گذشتم.

³⁰I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

³⁰ در همه‌جا خار روییده بود. علفهای هرزه زمین را پوشانده و دیوار مزرعه فروریخته بود.

³¹And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³¹ با دیدن این منظره به فکر فرورفتم و این درس را آموختم:

³²Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

³² کسی‌که دست بر روی دست می‌گذارد و پیوسته می‌خوابد، عاقبت تنگدستی همچون راهزن مسلّحی به سراغش می‌آید.

³³Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

³³ عاقبت تنگدستی همچون راهزن مسلّحی به سراغش می‌آید.

³⁴So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
