¹The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

¹ اینها سخنانی است که مادر لموئیل پادشاه به او تعلیم داد:

²What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

² ای پسر من، ای پسری که تو را با نذر و نیاز به دنیا آورده‌ام.

³Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

³ نیروی جوانی‌ات را صرف زنان مکن، زیرا آنها باعث نابودی پادشاهان شده‌اند.

⁴It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

⁴ ای لموئیل، برای پادشاهان شایسته نیست که شرابخوار باشند،

⁵Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

⁵ زیرا ممکن است قوانین را فراموش کرده نتوانند به داد مظلومان برسند.

⁶Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

⁶ شراب را به کسانی بده که در انتظار مرگ هستند و به کام کسانی بریز که در بدبختی و تلخکامی به سر می‌برند،

⁷Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

⁷ تا بنوشند و بدبختی و ناکامی خود را فراموش کنند.

⁸Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

⁸ دهان بگشا و از حق کسانی‌که بی‌زبان و بیچاره هستند، دفاع کن.

⁹Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

⁹ دهان خود را بازکن و با عدالت داوری کن و به کمک مردم فقیر و مسکین بشتاب.

¹⁰Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

¹⁰ زن لایق را چه کسی می‌تواند پیدا کند؟ ارزش او از جواهرات هم زیادتر است.

¹¹The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

¹¹ او مورد اعتماد شوهر خود می‌باشد و نمی‌گذارد که شوهرش به چیزی محتاج شود.

¹²She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

¹² سراسر عمرش به شوهر خود خوبی می‌کند نه بدی.

¹³She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

¹³ پشم و کتان را می‌گیرد و با دستهای خود آنها را می‌ریسد.

¹⁴She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

¹⁴ او برای تهیهٔ خوراک مانند کشتیهای تاجران به راههای دور می‌رود.

¹⁵She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

¹⁵ پیش از آن که هوا روشن شود از خواب برمی‌خیزد و برای خانوادهٔ خود خوراک آماده می‌کند و دستورات لازم را به کنیزان خود می‌دهد.

¹⁶She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

¹⁶ مزرعه‌ای را انتخاب می‌کند و بعد از فکر و بررسی آن را می‌خرد و با دسترنج خود تاکستانی را آباد می‌کند.

¹⁷She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

¹⁷ او نیرومند و پرکار است.

¹⁸She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

¹⁸ ارزش چیزهایی را که درست می‌کند، می‌داند و شبها تا دیر وقت کار می‌کند.

¹⁹She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

¹⁹ با دستهای خود نخ می‌ریسد و پارچه می‌بافد.

²⁰She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

²⁰ از روی سخاوت به مردم فقیر کمک می‌کند.

²¹She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

²¹ از برف و سرما نمی‌ترسد، زیرا برای اهل خانهٔ خود لباس گرم دوخته است.

²²She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

²² برای خود نیز لباسهای زیبا از پارچه‌های کتان ارغوانی می‌دوزد.

²³Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

²³ شوهرش از مردان با نفوذ و محترم شهر است.

²⁴She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

²⁴ او لباس و کمربند تهیّه می‌کند و به تاجران می‌فروشد.

²⁵Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

²⁵ او زنی است قوی و باوقار و از آینده بیم ندارد.

²⁶She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

²⁶ تمام سخنانش پر از حکمت و نصایحش محبّت‌آمیز است.

²⁷She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

²⁷ تنبلی نمی‌کند و احتیاجات خانوادهٔ خود را فراهم می‌نماید.

²⁸Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

²⁸ فرزندانش از او راضی هستند و شوهرش او را ستایش می‌کند و می‌گوید:

²⁹Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

²⁹ «تو بر همهٔ زنان خوب و صالح برتری داری.»

³⁰Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

³⁰ جمال و زیبایی فریبنده و ناپایدار است، امّا زنی که از خداوند می‌‌ترسد، قابل تحسین است. پاداش کارهایش را به او بدهید و همگی او را تحسین کنید.

³¹Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
