¹Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

¹ مدّتی بعد، نعومی به روت گفت: «باید برایت شوهری پیدا کنم تا تو بتوانی خانه و خانواده‌ای برای خودت داشته باشی.

²And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.

² به‌خاطر داشته باش، این بوعز که همراه زنان دیگر برایش کار می‌کنی، از اقوام ماست. خوب گوش کن؛ او امشب مشغول خرمن‌کوبی خواهد بود.

³Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

³ خودت را خوب بشوی، کمی عطر بزن و بهترین لباس خود را بپوش. آنگاه به خرمنگاه برو؛ ولی تا وقتی‌که خوردن و نوشیدنش تمام نشده، نگذار بفهمد تو در آنجا هستی.

⁴And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.

⁴ از جایی که می‌خوابد اطمینان حاصل کن. وقتی به خواب رفت برو، روی‌انداز او را از روی پاهایش کنار بزن و نزد پای او دراز بکش. او آن وقت به تو خواهد گفت چه باید بکنی.»

⁵And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.

⁵ روت در جواب گفت: «هرچه بگویی انجام خواهم داد.»

⁶And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.

⁶ پس روت به خرمنگاه رفت و درست مطابق هرآنچه مادر شوهرش به او گفته بود، رفتار کرد.

⁷And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.

⁷ وقتی بوعز از خوردن و نوشیدن دست کشید و کاملاً سرحال آمد، رفت و روی پشتهٔ جو خوابید. روت به آهستگی به او نزدیک شد، روی‌انداز را به کناری زد و نزد پای بوعز دراز کشید.

⁸And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

⁸ در نیمه‌های شب بوعز ناگهان از خواب بیدار شد و برگشته با تعجّب دید که زنی نزد پای وی خوابیده است.

⁹And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

⁹ بوعز پرسید: «تو کیستی؟» روت جواب داد: «ای آقا، بندهٔ شما روت هستم. شما یکی از اقوام نزدیک من هستید و سرپرستی من به عهده شماست. پس خواهش می‌کنم با من ازدواج کنید.»

¹⁰And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast showed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.

¹⁰ بوعز گفت: «دخترم، خداوند تو را برکت دهد. با آنچه تو اکنون می‌کنی، وفاداری خودت را به خانوادهٔ ما، حتّی بیش از آنچه نسبت به مادر شوهرت انجام داده‌ای، ثابت می‌کنی. تو می‌توانستی به دنبال یک مرد جوان ثروتمند یا فقیر باشی، ولی این کار را نکردی.

¹¹And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.

¹¹ حالا دیگر نگران نباش. هرچه بگویی برایت انجام خواهم داد. تمام مردم شهر می‌دانند که تو زن نجیبی هستی.

¹²And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

¹² درست است که من یکی از خویشاوندان نزدیک تو و مسئول حمایت از تو می‌باشم، امّا شخصی نزدیکتر از من هم وجود دارد.

¹³Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.

¹³ بقیّهٔ شب را اینجا بمان. فردا صبح خواهیم فهمید که آیا او مایل است حمایت از تو را بر عهده بگیرد یا نه. اگر او حاضر شود این‌کار را انجام بدهد، آن را انجام می‌دهد، در غیر این صورت به خدای زنده سوگند یاد می‌کنم که سرپرستی تو را بر عهده خواهم گرفت. حالا بخواب و تا صبح همین جا بمان.»

¹⁴And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.

¹⁴ پس روت در آنجا در نزد پای بوعز خوابید. امّا صبح زود قبل از آن که هوا کاملاً روشن شود و کسی او را بشناسد، برخاست؛ چون بوعز نمی‌خواست کسی بفهمد که آن زن در آنجا بوده است.

¹⁵Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.

¹⁵ ‌بوعز به او گفت: «شال خود را بر زمین پهن کن.» روت چنان کرد و بوعز در حدود بیست كیلوگرم جو در آن ریخت و آن را بر روی دوشش گذاشت. پس روت با آن‌همه جو به شهر برگشت.

¹⁶And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

¹⁶ وقتی به خانه رسید، مادر شوهرش از او پرسید: «خوب دخترم، کار تو با بوعز به کجا کشید؟» روت هر آنچه را که بوعز برایش انجام داده بود به او گفت.

¹⁷And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.

¹⁷ او اضافه کرد: «بوعز گفت که من نباید دست خالی به نزد تو بازگردم. او این مقدار جو را به من داد.» نعومی به او گفت: «حال باید صبر کنی تا ببینم نتیجهٔ این کارها چه خواهد بود. بوعز امروز تا این مسئله را حل نکند، آرام نمی‌گیرد.»

¹⁸Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.

¹⁸ نعومی به او گفت: «حال باید صبر کنی تا ببینم نتیجهٔ این کارها چه خواهد بود. بوعز امروز تا این مسئله را حل نکند، آرام نمی‌گیرد.»
