¹And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.

¹ نعومی خویشاوندی به نام بوعز داشت که مردی ثروتمند و با نفوذ و از خانوادهٔ شوهرش الیملک بود.

²And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.

² یک روز روت به نعومی گفت: «من به مزارع اطراف می‌روم تا خوشه‌هایی را که دروکنندگان جا می‌گذارند، جمع کنم. مطمئن هستم کسی را خواهم یافت که به من اجازه دهد با او کار کنم.» نعومی جواب داد: «برو، دخترم.»

³And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.

³ پس روت به یکی از مزارع رفت و پشت سر دروکنندگان راه می‌رفت و خوشه‌های برجا مانده را جمع می‌کرد. برحسب اتّفاق، آن مزرعه متعلّق به بوعز بود.

⁴And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.

⁴ مدّتی بعد، خود بوعز از بیت‌لحم آمد و بعد از سلام به کارگران گفت: «خداوند با شما باد!» و آنها در جواب گفتند: «خداوند تو را برکت دهد.»

⁵Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?

⁵ بوعز از مباشر خود پرسید: «آن زن جوان کیست؟»

⁶And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:

⁶ مباشر جواب داد: «او یک دختر بیگانه است که همراه نعومی از موآب به اینجا آمده است

⁷And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.

⁷ و از من اجازه خواست تا پشت سر دروکنندگان، خوشه‌های به جا مانده را جمع کند. او از صبح زود مشغول کار است و همین الآن دست از کار کشید تا کمی در زیر سایبان استراحت کند.»

⁸Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:

⁸ آنگاه بوعز به روت گفت: «دخترم، به نصیحت من گوش کن، در هیچ مزرعهٔ دیگر جز اینجا خوشه‌چینی نکن. همراه زنان دیگر در همین جا کار کن.

⁹Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

⁹ به آنها نگاه کن و هر جا آنها درو می‌کنند، تو هم با آنان باش. من به کارگران خود دستور داده‌ام مزاحم تو نشوند. هر وقت تشنه شدی برو و از کوزه‌هایی که آنها پُر کرده‌اند، بنوش.»

¹⁰Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

¹⁰ روت در مقابل بوعز، تعظیم کرد و به او گفت: «چرا باید شما تا این اندازه در فکر من باشید؟ چرا شما نسبت به یک بیگانه این‌قدر مهربان هستید؟»

¹¹And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been showed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.

¹¹ بوعز در جواب گفت: «آنچه تو بعد از مرگ شوهرت در حق مادر شوهر خود انجام داده‌ای، به گوش من رسیده است. من می‌دانم چگونه پدر، مادر و وطن خود را ترک کردی و برای زندگی کردن به میان قومی آمدی که قبلاً چیزی دربارهٔ آنها نمی‌دانستی.

¹²The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.

¹² خداوند تو را برای کارهایی که کرده‌ای پاداش دهد. خداوند خدای اسرائیل که نزد او برای حمایت آمده‌ای، تو را پاداش کامل عطا فرماید.»

¹³Then she said, Let me find favor in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.

¹³ روت در پاسخ گفت: «ای آقا، نسبت به بنده بسیار لطف دارید. سخنان محبّت‌آمیز شما باعث دلگرمی من، که با خادمان شما برابر نیستم، گردیده است.»

¹⁴And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.

¹⁴ در وقت ناهار بوعز به روت گفت: «بیا، کمی از این نان بردار و در غذا فرو کن.» پس روت در کنار بقیّهٔ کارگران نشست و بوعز قدری غلّهٔ برشته به او داد. روت آن‌قدر خورد تا سیر شد و قدری هم باقی ماند.

¹⁵And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

¹⁵ بعد از آن که روت بلند شد و به خوشه‌چینی پرداخت. بوعز به کارگران خود دستور داده گفت: «بگذارید او هرجا می‌خواهد خوشه جمع کند، حتّی در جایی که خوشه‌ها بسته‌بندی می‌شوند. به او چیزی نگویید و مانع کارش نشوید. از آن گذشته، مقداری از خوشه‌های بسته‌بندی شده را روی زمین بریزید تا او جمع کند.»

¹⁶And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.

¹⁶ روت تا غروب آفتاب در آن مزرعه خوشه جمع می‌کرد. وقتی خوشه‌ها را کوبید، در حدود دوازده کیلوگرم جو خالص به دست آورد.

¹⁷So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.

¹⁷ روت تمام آن را با خود به شهر نزد مادر شوهر خود برد و به او نشان داد که چقدر جو جمع کرده است. او باقیماندهٔ غذای خود را نیز به نعومی داد.

¹⁸And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.

¹⁸ نعومی از او پرسید: «از کجا این‌همه را جمع کردی؟ در مزرعهٔ چه کسی مشغول کار بودی؟ خدا کسی را که چنین لطفی در حق تو کرده است، برکت دهد.» روت به نعومی گفت که در مزرعه شخصی به نام بوعز کار می‌کرده است.

¹⁹And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she showed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.

¹⁹ نعومی به عروس خود گفت: «خداوند بوعز را برکت دهد. خداوند همیشه وعدهٔ خود را با زندگان و مردگان نگاه می‌دارد،» و بعد از آن افزود: «آن مرد یکی از اقوام نزدیک ماست. او از جمله افرادی است که باید سرپرستی ما را به عهده بگیرد.»

²⁰And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

²⁰ پس از آن روت گفت: «از آن مهمتر، بوعز از من خواسته است تا انتهای فصل درو، فقط در مزرعهٔ او خوشه‌چینی کنم.»

²¹And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.

²¹ نعومی به عروس خود گفت: «بله دخترم، بهتر است همراه زنان در مزرعهٔ بوعز کار کنی. اگر جای دیگری بروی، ممکن است کارگران مزاحمت شوند.» پس روت تا آخر فصل درو جو و گندم در آنجا به جمع‌آوری غلّه ادامه داد و با مادر شوهر خود زندگی می‌کرد.

²²And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.

²² پس روت تا آخر فصل درو جو و گندم در آنجا به جمع‌آوری غلّه ادامه داد و با مادر شوهر خود زندگی می‌کرد.

²³So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
