¹And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹Ilie, Tişbitul, unul din locuitorii Galaadului, a zis lui Ahab: ,,Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, al cărui slujitor sînt, că în anii aceştia nu va fi nici rouă, nici ploaie, decît după cuvîntul meu.``

²And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

²Şi cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit lui Ilie, cu aceste vorbe:

³Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

³,,Pleacă de aici, îndreaptă-te spre răsărit, şi ascunde-te lîngă pîrîul Cherit, care este în faţa Iordanului.

⁴And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

⁴Vei bea apă din pîrîu, şi am poruncit corbilor să te hrănească acolo.``

⁵So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

⁵El a plecat şi a făcut după cuvîntul Domnului. S'a dus şi s'a aşezat lîngă pîrîul Cherit, care este în faţa Iordanului.

⁶And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

⁶Corbii îi aduceau pîne şi carne dimineaţa, şi pîne şi carne seara, şi bea apă din pîrîu.

⁷And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

⁷Dar după cîtăva vreme pîrîtul a secat, căci nu căzuse ploaie în ţară.

⁸And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

⁸Atunci cuvîntul Domnului i -a vorbit astfel:

⁹Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

⁹,,Scoală-te, du-te la Sarepta care ţine de Sidon, şi rămîi acolo. Iată că am poruncit acolo unei femei văduve să te hrănească.``

¹⁰So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

¹⁰Ilie s'a sculat, şi s'a dus la Sarepta. Cînd a ajuns la poarta cetăţii, acolo era o femeie văduvă care strîngea lemne. El a chemat -o, şi a zis: ,,Du-te şi adu-mi, te rog, puţină apă într'un vas, ca să beau.``

¹¹And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

¹¹Pe cînd se ducea ea să -i aducă, a chemat -o din nou, şi a zis: ,,Adu-mi, te rog, şi o bucată de pîne în mîna ta.``

¹²And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

¹²Şi ea a răspuns: ,,Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, că n'am nimic copt, n'am decît un pumn de făină într'o oală şi puţin untdelemn într-un ulcior. Şi iată, strîng două bucăţi de lemne, apoi mă voi întoarce şi voi pregăti ce am pentru mine şi pentru fiul meu: vom mînca şi apoi vom muri.``

¹³And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

¹³Ilie i -a zis: ,,Nu te teme, întoarce-te şi fă cum ai zis. Numai, pregăteşte-mi întîi mie cu untdelemnul şi făina aceea o mică turtă, şi adu-mi -o; pe urmă să faci şi pentru tine şi pentru fiul tău.

¹⁴For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

¹⁴Căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Făina din oală nu va scădea şi untdelemnul din ulcior nu se va împuţina, pînă în ziua cînd va da Domnul ploaie pe faţa pămîntului.``

¹⁵And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

¹⁵Ea s'a dus, şi a făcut după cuvîntul lui Ilie. Şi multă veme a avut ce să mănînce, ea şi familia ei, şi Ilie.

¹⁶And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

¹⁶Făina din oală n'a scăzut, şi untdelemnul din ulcior nu s'a împuţinat, după cuvîntul pe care -l rostise Domnul prin Ilie.

¹⁷And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

¹⁷După aceea, fiul femeii, stăpîna casei, s'a îmbolnăvit. Şi boala lui a fost atît de cumplită încît n'a mai rămas suflare în el.

¹⁸And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

¹⁸Femeia a zis atunci lui Ilie: ,,Ce am eu a face cu tine, omule al lui Dumnezeu? Ai venit la mine doar ca să aduci aminte lui Dumnezeu de nelegiuirea mea, şi să-mi omori astfel fiul?``

¹⁹And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

¹⁹El i -a răspuns: ,,Dă-mi încoace pe fiul tău.`` Şi l -a luat dela sînul femeii, l -a suit în odaia de sus unde locuia el, şi l -a culcat pe patul lui.

²⁰And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

²⁰Apoi a chemat pe Domnul, şi a zis: ,,Doamne, Dumnezeule, oare atît de mult să mîhneşti Tu chiar pe văduva aceasta, la care am fost primit ca oaspete, încît să -i omori fiul?``

²¹And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

²¹Şi s'a întins de trei ori peste copil, a chemat pe Domnul, şi a zis: ,,Doamne, Dumnezeule, Te rog, fă să se întoarcă sufletul copilului în el!``

²²And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

²²Domnul a ascultat glasul lui Ilie, şi sufletul copilului s'a întors în el, şi a înviat.

²³And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

²³Ilie a luat copilul, l -a pogorît jos în casă din odaia de sus, şi l -a dat mamei sale. Şi Ilie a zis: ,,Iată, fiul tău este viu.``

²⁴And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

²⁴Şi femeia a zis lui Ilie: ,,Cunosc acum că eşti un om al lui Dumnezeu, şi cuvîntul Domnului în gura ta este adevăr!``
