¹Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speakings,

¹Lepădaţi dar orice răutate, orice vicleşug, orice fel de prefăcătorie, de pizmă şi de clevetire;

²As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

²şi, ca nişte prunci născuţi de curînd, să doriţi laptele duhovnicesc şi curat, pentruca prin el să creşteţi spre mîntuire,

³If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

³dacă aţi gustat în adevăr că bun este Domnul.

⁴To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

⁴Apropiaţi-vă de El, piatra vie, lepădată de oameni, dar aleasă şi scumpă înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

⁵Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

⁵Şi voi, ca nişte pietre vii, sînteţi zidiţi ca să fiţi o casă duhovnicească, o preoţie sfîntă, şi să aduceţi jertfe duhovniceşti, plăcute lui Dumnezeu, prin Isus Hristos.

⁶Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

⁶Căci este scris în Scriptură: Iată că pun în Sion o piatră din capul unghiului, aleasă, scumpă; şi cine se încrede în El, nu va fi dat de ruşine."

⁷Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

⁷Cinstea aceasta este dar pentru voi cari aţi crezut! Dar pentru cei necredincioşi, piatra, pe care au lepădat-o zidarii, a ajuns să fie pusă în capul unghiului";

⁸And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

⁸şi o piatră de poticnire, şi o stîncă de cădere". Ei se lovesc de ea, pentrucă n-au crezut Cuvîntul, şi la aceasta sînt rînduiţi.

⁹But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

⁹Voi însă sînteţi o seminţie aleasă, o preoţie împărătească, un neam sfînt, un popor , pe care Dumnezeu Şi l-a cîştigat ca să fie al Lui, ca să vestiţi puterile minunate ale Celui ce v-a chemat din întunerec la lumina Sa minunată;

¹⁰Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

¹⁰pe voi, cari odinioară nu eraţi un popor, dar acum sînteţi poporul lui Dumnezeu; pe voi, cari nu căpătaserăţi îndurare, dar acum aţi căpătat îndurare.

¹¹Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

¹¹Prea iubiţilor, vă sfătuiesc ca pe nişte străini şi călători, să vă feriţi de poftele firii pămînteşti cari se războiesc cu sufletul.

¹²Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹²Să aveţi o purtare bună în mijlocul Neamurilor, pentruca în ceiace vă vorbesc de rău ca pe nişte făcători de rele, prin faptele voastre bune, pe cari le văd, să slăvească pe Dumnezeu în ziua cercetării.

¹³Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

¹³Fiţi supuşi oricărei stăpîniri omeneşti, pentru Domnul: atît împăratului, ca înalt stăpînitor,

¹⁴Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

¹⁴cît şi dregătorilor, ca unii cari sînt trimeşi de el să pedepsească pe făcătorii de rele şi să laude pe ceice fac bine.

¹⁵For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

¹⁵Căci voia lui Dumnezeu este, ca, făcînd ce este bine, să astupaţi gura oamenilor neştiutori şi proşti.

¹⁶As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

¹⁶Purtaţi-vă ca nişte oameni slobozi, fără să faceţi din slobozenia aceasta o haină a răutăţii, ci ca nişte robi ai lui Dumnezeu.

¹⁷Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

¹⁷Cinstiţi pe toţi oamenii, iubiţi pe fraţi; temeţi-vă de Dumnezeu; daţi cinste împăratului!

¹⁸Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

¹⁸Slugilor, fiţi supuse stăpînilor voştri cu toată frica, nu numai celorce sînt buni şi blînzi, ci şi celor greu de mulţămit.

¹⁹For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

¹⁹Căci este un lucru plăcut, dacă cineva, pentru cugetul lui faţă de Dumnezeu, sufere întristare, şi sufere pe nedrept.

²⁰For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

²⁰În adevăr, ce fală este să suferiţi cu răbdare să fiţi pălmuiţi, cînd aţi făcut rău? Dar dacă suferiţi cu răbdare, cînd aţi făcut ce este bine, lucrul acesta este plăcut lui Dumnezeu.

²¹For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

²¹Şi la aceasta aţi fost chemaţi; fiindcă şi Hristos a suferit pentru voi, şi v-a lăsat o pildă , ca să călcaţi pe urmele Lui.

²²Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

²²El n-a făcut păcat, şi în gura Lui nu s-a găsit vicleşug".

²³Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

²³Cînd era batjocorit, nu răspundea cu batjocuri; şi, cînd era chinuit, nu ameninţa, ci Se supunea dreptului Judecător.

²⁴Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

²⁴El a purtat păcatele noastre în trupul Său, pe lemn, pentruca noi, fiind morţi faţă de păcate, să trăim pentru neprihănire; prin rănile Lui aţi fost vindecaţi.

²⁵For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

²⁵Căci eraţi ca nişte oi rătăcite. Dar acum v-aţi întors la Păstorul şi Episcopul ( Sau: priveghetorul.) sufletelor voastre.
