¹Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

¹Tot astfel, nevestelor, fiţi supuse şi voi bărbaţilor voştri; pentruca, dacă unii nu ascultă Cuvîntul, să fie cîştigaţi fără cuvînt, prin purtarea nevestelor lor,

²While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

²cînd vă vor vedea felul vostru de trai: curat şi în temere.

³Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

³Podoaba voastră să nu fie podoaba de afară, care stă în împletitura părului, în purtarea de scule de aur sau în îmbrăcarea hainelor,

⁴But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

⁴ci să fie omul ascuns al inimii, în curăţia neperitoare a unui duh blînd şi liniştit, care este de mare preţ înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

⁵For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

⁵Astfel se împodobeau odinioară sfintele femei, cari nădăjduiau în Dumnezeu, şi erau supuse bărbaţilor lor;

⁶Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

⁶ca Sara, care asculta pe Avraam, şi-l numea domnul ei". Fiicele ei v-aţi făcut voi, dacă faceţi binele fără să vă temeţi de ceva.

⁷Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

⁷Bărbaţilor, purtaţi-vă şi voi, la rîndul vostru, cu înţelepciune cu nevestele voastre, dînd cinste femeii ca unui vas mai slab, ca unele cari vor moşteni împreună cu voi harul vieţii, ca să nu fie împiedecate rugăciunile voastre.

⁸Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

⁸Încolo, toţi să fiţi cu aceleaşi gînduri, simţind cu alţii, iubind ca fraţii, miloşi , smeriţi.

⁹Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

⁹Nu întoarceţi rău pentru rău, nici ocară pentru ocară; dimpotrivă, binecuvîntaţi, căci la aceasta aţi fost chemaţi: să moşteniţi binecuvîntarea.

¹⁰For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

¹⁰Căci cine iubeşte viaţa, şi vrea să vadă zile bune, să-şi înfrîneze limba dela rău, şi buzele dela cuvinte înşelătoare.

¹¹Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

¹¹Să se depărteze de rău şi să facă binele, să caute pacea, şi s-o urmărească.

¹²For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

¹²Căci ochii Domnului sînt peste cei neprihăniţi, şi urechile Lui iau aminte la rugăciunile lor. Dar Faţa Domnului este împotriva celor ce fac răul."

¹³And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

¹³Şi cine vă va face rău, dacă sînteţi plini de rîvnă pentru bine?

¹⁴But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

¹⁴Chiar dacă aveţi de suferit pentru neprihănire, ferice de voi! N-aveţi nici o teamă de ei, şi nu vă tulburaţi!

¹⁵But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

¹⁵Ci sfinţiţi în inimile voastre pe Hristos ca Domn." Fiţi totdeauna gata să răspundeţi oricui vă cere socoteală de nădejdea care este în voi; dar cu blîndeţă şi teamă,

¹⁶Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

¹⁶avînd un cuget curat; pentruca cei ce bîrfesc purtarea voastră bună în Hristos, să rămînă de ruşine tocmai în lucrurile în cari vă vorbesc de rău.

¹⁷For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

¹⁷Căci este mai bine, dacă aşa este voia lui Dumnezeu, să suferiţi pentrucă faceţi binele decît pentrucă faceţi răul!

¹⁸For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

¹⁸Hristos, de asemenea, a suferit odată pentru păcate, El, Cel neprihănit, pentru cei nelegiuiţi, ca să ne aducă la Dumnezeu. El a fost omorît în trup , dar a fost înviat în duh,

¹⁹By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

¹⁹în care S-a dus să propovăduiască duhurilor din închisoare,

²⁰Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

²⁰cari fuseseră răzvrătite odinioară, cînd îndelunga răbdare a lui Dumnezeu era în aşteptare, în zilele lui Noe, cînd se făcea corabia, în care au fost scăpate prin apă un mic număr de suflete, şi anume opt.

²¹The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

²¹Icoana aceasta închipuitoare vă mîntuieşte acum pe voi, şi anume botezul, care nu este o curăţire de întinăciunile trupeşti, ci mărturia unui cuget curat înaintea lui Dumnezeu, prin învierea lui Isus Hristos,

²²Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

²²care stă la dreapta lui Dumnezeu, după ce s-a înălţat la cer, şi Şi-a supus îngerii, stăpînirile şi puterile.
