¹Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

¹În urmă, Pavel s'a dus la Derbe şi la Listra. Şi iată că acolo era un ucenic, numit Timotei, fiul unei iudeice credincioase şi al unui tată Grec.

²Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

²Fraţii din Listra şi Iconia îl vorbeau de bine.

³Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

³Pavel a vrut să -l ia cu el; şi, dupăce l -a luat, l -a tăiat împrejur, din pricina Iudeilor, cari erau în acele locuri; căci toţi ştiau că tatăl lui era Grec.

⁴And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

⁴Pe cînd trecea prin cetăţi, învăţa pe fraţi să păzească hotărîrile apostolilor şi presbiterilor din Ierusalim.

⁵And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

⁵Bisericile se întăreau în credinţă, şi sporeau la număr din zi în zi.

⁶Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

⁶Fiindcă au fost opriţi de Duhul Sfînt să vestească Cuvîntul în Asia, au trecut prin ţinutul Frigiei şi Galatiei.

⁷After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

⁷Ajunşi lîngă Misia, se pregăteau să intre în Bitinia; dar Duhul lui Isus nu le -a dat voie.

⁸And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

⁸Au trecut atunci prin Misia, şi s'au pogorît la Troa.

⁹And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

⁹Noaptea, Pavel a avut o vedenie: un om din Macedonia sta în picioare şi i -a făcut următoarea rugăminte: ,,Treci în Macedonia, şi ajută-ne!``

¹⁰And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

¹⁰După vedenia aceasta a lui Pavel, am căutat îndată să ne ducem în Macedonia, căci înţelegeam că Domnul ne cheamă să le vestim Evanghelia.

¹¹Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

¹¹Dupăce am pornit din Troa, am mers cu corabia drept la Samotracia, şi a doua zi ne-am oprit la Neapolis.

¹²And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

¹²De acolo ne-am dus la Filipi, care este cea dintîi cetate dintr'un ţinut al Macedoniei, şi o colonie romană. În cetatea aceasta am stat cîteva zile.

¹³And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

¹³În ziua Sabatului am ieşit afară pe poarta cetăţii, lîngă un rîu, unde credeam că se află un loc de rugăciune. Am şezut jos, şi am vorbit femeilor, cari erau adunate laolaltă.

¹⁴And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

¹⁴Una din ele, numită Lidia, vînzătoare de purpură, din cetatea Tiatira, era o femeie temătoare de Dumnezeu, şi asculta. Domnul i -a deschis inima, ca să ia aminte la cele ce spunea Pavel.

¹⁵And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

¹⁵După ce a fost botezată, ea şi casa ei, ne -a rugat şi ne -a zis: ,,Dacă mă socotiţi credincioasă Domnului, intraţi şi rămîneţi în casa mea.`` Şi ne -a silit să intrăm.

¹⁶And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

¹⁶Pe cînd ne duceam la locul de rugăciune, ne -a ieşit înainte o roabă, care avea un duh de ghicire (Greceşte: Un duh al lui Piton.). Prin ghicire, ea aducea mult cîştig stăpînilor ei.

¹⁷The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

¹⁷Roaba aceasta s'a luat după Pavel şi după noi, şi striga: ,,Oamenii aceştia sînt robii Dumnezeului Celui Prea Înalt şi ei vă vestesc calea mîntuirii.``

¹⁸And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

¹⁸Aşa a făcut ea timp de mai multe zile. Pavel, necăjit, s'a întors, şi a zis duhului: ,,În Numele lui Isus Hristos îţi poruncesc să ieşi din ea.`` Şi a ieşit chiar în ceasul acela.

¹⁹And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

¹⁹Cînd au văzut stăpînii roabei că s'a dus nădejdea cîştigului lor, au pus mîna pe Pavel şi pe Sila şi i-au tîrît în piaţă înaintea fruntaşilor.

²⁰And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

²⁰I-au dat pe mîna dregătorilor, şi au zis: ,,Oamenii aceştia ne tulbură cetatea; sînt nişte Iudei,

²¹And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

²¹cari vestesc nişte obiceiuri, pe cari noi, Romanii nu trebuie nici să le primim, nici să le urmăm.``

²²And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

²²Norodul s'a ridicat şi el împotriva lor, şi dregătorii au pus să le smulgă hainele de pe ei, şi au poruncit să -i bată cu nuiele.

²³And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

²³După ce le-au dat multe lovituri, i-au aruncat în temniţă, şi au dat în grijă temnicerului să -i păzească bine.

²⁴Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

²⁴Temnicerul, ca unul care primise o astfel de poruncă, i -a aruncat în temniţa din lăuntru, şi le -a băgat picioarele în butuci.

²⁵And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

²⁵Pe la miezul nopţii, Pavel şi Sila se rugau, şi cîntau cîntări de laudă lui Dumnezeu; iar cei închişi îi ascultau.

²⁶And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

²⁶Deodată, s'a făcut un mare cutremur de pămînt, aşa că s'au clătinat temeliile temniţei. Îndată, s'au deschis toate uşile, şi s'au deslegat legăturile fiecăruia.

²⁷And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

²⁷Temnicerul s'a deşteptat; şi, cînd a văzut uşile temniţei deschise, a scos sabia, şi era să se omoare, căci credea că cei închişi au fugit.

²⁸But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

²⁸Dar Pavel a strigat cu glas tare: ,,Să nu-ţi faci nici un rău, căci toţi sîntem aici.``

²⁹Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

²⁹Atunci temnicerul a cerut o lumină, a sărit înlăuntru, şi, tremurînd de frică, s'a aruncat la picioarele lui Pavel şi ale lui Sila;

³⁰And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

³⁰i -a scos afară, şi le -a zis: ,,Domnilor, ce trebuie să fac ca să fiu mîntuit?``

³¹And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

³¹Pavel şi Sila i-au răspuns: ,,Crede în Domnul Isus, şi vei fi mîntuit tu şi casa ta.``

³²And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

³²Şi i-au vestit Cuvîntul Domnului, atît lui cît şi tuturor celor din casa lui.

³³And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

³³Temnicerul i -a luat cu el, chiar în ceasul acela din noapte, le -a spălat rănile, şi a fost botezat îndată, el şi toţi ai lui.

³⁴And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

³⁴După ce i -a dus în casă, le -a pus masa, şi s'a bucurat cu toată casa lui că a crezut în Dumnezeu.

³⁵And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

³⁵Cînd s'a făcut ziuă, dregătorii au trimes pe ceice purtau nuielele (Greceşte: lictori.), să spună temnicerului: ,,Dă drumul oamenilor acelora.``

³⁶And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

³⁶Şi temnicerul a spus lui Pavel aceste cuvinte: ,,Dregătorii au trimes să vi se dea drumul; acum dar, ieşiţi afară, şi duceţi-vă în pace.``

³⁷But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

³⁷Dar Pavel le -a zis: ,,După ce ne-au bătut cu nuiele în faţa tuturor, fără să fim judecaţi, pe noi, cari sîntem romani, ne-au aruncat în temniţă, şi acum ne scot afară pe ascuns! Nu merge aşa! Să vină ei singuri să ne scoată afară!``

³⁸And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

³⁸Ceice purtau nuielele, au spus aceste cuvinte dregătorilor. Aceştia s'au temut, cînd au auzit că sînt romani.

³⁹And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

³⁹Dregătorii au venit să -i potolească, i-au scos afară din temniţă, şi i-au rugat să părăsească cetatea.

⁴⁰And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

⁴⁰Ei au ieşit din temniţă, şi au intrat în casa Lidiei; şi, dupăce au văzut şi mîngîiat pe fraţi, au plecat.
