¹Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself:

¹Agripa a zis lui Pavel: ,,Ai voie să te aperi!`` Pavel a întins mîna, şi a început să se apere astfel:

²I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:

²,,Mă socotesc fericit, împărate Agripa, că am să mă apăr astăzi înaintea ta, pentru toate lucrurile de cari sînt pîrît de Iudei;

³Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.

³căci tu cunoşti foarte bine toate obiceiurile şi neînţelegerile lor. De aceea, te rog să mă asculţi cu îngăduinţă.

⁴My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;

⁴Viaţa mea, din cele dintîi zile ale tinereţii mele, este cunoscută de toţi Iudeii, pentrucă am petrecut -o în Ierusalim, în mijlocul neamului meu.

⁵Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

⁵Dacă vor să mărturisească, ei ştiu dela început că am trăit, ca Fariseu, după cea mai îngustă partidă a religiunii noastre.

⁶And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God, unto our fathers:

⁶Şi acum, sînt dat în judecată, pentru nădejdea făgăduinţei, pe care a făcut -o Dumnezeu părinţilor noştri,

⁷Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

⁷şi a cărei împlinire o aşteaptă cele douăsprezece seminţii ale noastre, cari slujesc necurmat lui Dumnezeu, zi şi noapte. Pentru această nădejde împărate, sînt pîrît eu de Iudei!

⁸Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?

⁸Ce? Vi se pare de necrezut că Dumnezeu înviază morţii?

⁹I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

⁹Şi eu, ce -i drept, credeam că trebuie să fac multe lucruri împotriva Numelui lui Isus din Nazaret,

¹⁰Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.

¹⁰şi aşa am şi făcut în Ierusalim. Am aruncat în temniţă pe mulţi sfinţi, căci am primit puterea aceasta dela preoţii cei mai de seamă; şi, cînd erau osîndiţi la moarte, îmi dădeam şi eu votul împotriva lor.

¹¹And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

¹¹I-am pedepsit adesea în toate sinagogile şi îmi dădeam toată silinţa ca să -i fac să hulească. În pornirea mea nebună împotriva lor, îi prigoneam pînă şi în cetăţile străine.

¹²Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,

¹²În acest scop, m'am dus la Damasc, cu putere şi învoire dela preoţii cei mai de seamă.

¹³At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.

¹³Pela amiază, împărate, pe drum, am văzut strălucind împrejurul meu şi împrejurul tovarăşilor mei o lumină din cer, a cărei strălucire întrecea pe a soarelui.

¹⁴And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

¹⁴Am căzut cu toţii la pămînt; şi eu am auzit un glas, care-mi zicea în limba evreiască: ,Saule, Saule, pentruce Mă prigoneşti? Îţi este greu să arunci, cu piciorul înapoi în vîrful unui ţepuş.``

¹⁵And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

¹⁵,Cine eşti, Doamne?` am răspuns eu. Şi Domnul a zis: ,Eu sînt Isus, pe care -L prigoneşti.

¹⁶But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

¹⁶Dar scoală-te, şi stai în picioare; căci M'am arătat ţie, ca să te pun slujitor şi martor atît al lucrurilor, pe cari le-ai văzut, cît şi al lucrurilor, pe cari Mă vei vedea făcîndu-le.

¹⁷Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

¹⁷Te-am ales din mijlocul norodului acestuia şi din mijlocul Neamurilor, la cari te trimet,

¹⁸To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

¹⁸ca să le deschizi ochii, să se întoarcă dela întunerec la lumină, şi de supt puterea Satanei la Dumnezeu; şi să primească, prin credinţa în Mine, iertare de păcate şi moştenirea împreună cu cei sfinţiţi.``

¹⁹Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

¹⁹De aceea, împărate Agripa, n'am vrut să mă împotrivesc vedeniei cereşti.

²⁰But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

²⁰Ci am propovăduit întîi celor din Damasc, apoi în Ierusalim, în toată Iudea, şi la Neamuri, să se pocăiască şi să se întoarcă la Dumnezeu, şi să facă fapte vrednice de pocăinţa lor.

²¹For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.

²¹Iată de ce au pus Iudeii mîna pe mine în Templu, şi au căutat să mă omoare.

²²Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

²²Dar, mulţămită ajutorului lui Dumnezeu, am rămas în viaţă pînă în ziua aceasta; şi am mărturisit înaintea celor mici şi celor mari, fără să mă depărtez cu nimic dela ce au spus proorocii şi Moise că are să se întîmple;

²³That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

²³şi anume, că Hristosul trebuie să pătimească, şi că, după ce va fi cel dintîi din învierea morţilor, va vesti lumină norodului şi Neamurilor.``

²⁴And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.

²⁴Pe cînd vorbea el astfel ca să se apere, Festus a zis cu glas tare: ,,Pavele, eşti nebun! Învăţătura ta cea multă te face să dai în nebunie.``

²⁵But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.

²⁵,,Nu sînt nebun, prea alesule Festus,`` a răspuns Pavel; ,,dimpotrivă, rostesc cuvinte adevărate şi chibzuite.

²⁶For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.

²⁶Împăratul ştie aceste lucruri, şi de aceea îi vorbesc cu îndrăzneală; căci sînt încredinţat că nu -i este nimic necunoscut din ele, fiindcă nu s'au petrecut într'un colţ!

²⁷King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

²⁷Crezi tu în Prooroci, împărate Agripa?... Ştiu că crezi.``

²⁸Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

²⁸Şi Agripa a zis lui Pavel: ,,Curînd mai vrei tu să mă îndupleci să mă fac creştin!``

²⁹And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

²⁹,,Fie curînd, fie tîrziu``, a răspuns Pavel, ,,să dea Dumnezeu ca nu numai tu, ci toţi ceice mă ascultă astă zi, să fiţi aşa cum sînt eu, afară de lanţurile acestea.``

³⁰And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:

³⁰Împăratul, dregătorul, Berenice, şi toţi cei ce şedeau împreună cu ei, s'au sculat.

³¹And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.

³¹Şi cînd au plecat, ziceau unii către alţii: ,,Omul acesta n'a făcut nimic vrednic de moarte sau de închisoare.``

³²Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.

³²Şi Agripa a zis lui Festus: ,,Omului acestuia i s-ar fi putut da drumul, dacă n'ar fi cerut să fie judecat de Cezar.``
