¹And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.

¹După ce s'a hotărît să plecăm cu corabia în Italia, pe Pavel şi pe alţi cîţiva întemniţaţi i-au dat pe mîna unui sutaş al cetei de ostaşi Augusta, numit Iuliu.

²And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

²Ne-am suit într'o corabie dela Adramit, care avea să meargă pe coasta Asiei, şi am pornit. Aveam cu noi pe Aristarh Macedoneanul din Tesalonic.

³And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

³A doua zi, am ajuns la Sidon; şi Iuliu, care se purta omenos cu Pavel, i -a dat voie să meargă pe la prietenii săi, şi să fie îngrijit de ei.

⁴And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

⁴După ce am plecat de acolo, am plutit pe lîngă Cipru, pentrucă vînturile erau potrivnice.

⁵And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

⁵După ce am trecut marea care scaldă Cilicia şi Pamfilia, am ajuns la Mira în Licia.

⁶And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.

⁶Acolo sutaşul a găsit o corabie din Alexandria, care mergea în Italia, şi ne -a suit în ea.

⁷And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

⁷Timp de mai multe zile, am mers încet cu corabia, şi nu fără greutate am atins înălţimea Cnid, unde nu ne -a lăsat vîntul să ne oprim. Am trecut pe la capătul Cretei, alături de Salmona.

⁸And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

⁸De abia am mers cu corabia pe marginea insulei, şi am ajuns la un loc numit ,,Limanuri bune``, de care era aproape cetatea Lasea.

⁹Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

⁹Trecuse destul de multă vreme, şi călătoria pe mare se făcea primejdioasă, pentrucă trecuse chiar şi vremea ,,postului``. De aceea Pavel a înştiinţat pe ceilalţi,

¹⁰And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

¹⁰şi le -a zis: ,,Oamenilor, călătoria văd că nu se va face fără primejdie şi fără multă pagubă, nu numai pentru încărcătură şi pentru corabie, dar chiar şi pentru vieţile noastre.

¹¹Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

¹¹Sutaşul a ascultat mai mult de cîrmaci şi de stăpînul corăbiei de cît de vorbele lui Pavel.

¹²And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

¹²Şi fiindcă limanul nu era bun de iernat, cei mai mulţi au fost de părere să plece cu corabia de acolo, ca să încerce să ajungă la Fenix, liman din Creta, aşezat spre miazăzi-apus şi spre miazănoapte-apus, ca să ierneze acolo.

¹³And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

¹³Începuse să sufle un vînt uşor de miazăzi; şi, ca unii cari se credeau stăpîni pe ţintă, au ridicat ancorele, şi au pornit cu corabia pe marginea Cretei.

¹⁴But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

¹⁴Dar nu după multă vreme, s'a deslănţuit asupra insulei un vînt furtunos, numit Eurachilon.

¹⁵And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

¹⁵Corabia a fost luată de el, fără să poată lupta împotriva vîntului, şi ne-am lăsat duşi în voia lui.

¹⁶And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

¹⁶Am trecut repede pela partea de jos a unui ostrov, numit Clauda, şi abia am putut să punem mîna pe luntre.

¹⁷Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

¹⁷După ce au ridicat -o în sus, au întrebuinţat mijloace de ajutor, au încins corabia cu frînghii; şi, de teamă să nu cadă peste Sirta, au lăsat pînzele în jos. Astfel s'au lăsat mînaţi de vînt.

¹⁸And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

¹⁸Fiindcă eram bătuţi foarte tare de furtună, a doua zi au început să arunce în mare încărcătura din corabie,

¹⁹And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

¹⁹şi a treia zi, noi, cu mînile noastre, am lepădat uneltele corăbiei.

²⁰And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

²⁰Soarele şi stelele nu s'au văzut mai multe zile, şi furtuna era aşa de puternică în cît la urmă pierdusem orice nădejde de scăpare.

²¹But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

²¹Oamenii nu mîncaseră de multă vreme. Atunci Pavel s'a sculat în mijlocul lor, şi a zis: ,,Oamenilor, trebuia să mă ascultaţi, şi să nu fi pornit cu corabia din Creta, ca să fi scăpat de această primejdie şi de această pagubă.

²²And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

²²Acum vă sfătuiesc să fiţi cu voie bună; pentrucă nici unul din voi nu va pieri; şi nu va fi altă pierdere decît a corăbiei.

²³For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

²³Un înger al Dumnezeului, al căruia sînt eu, şi căruia Îi slujesc, mi s'a arătat azi noapte,

²⁴Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

²⁴şi mi -a zis: ,Nu te teme, Pavele; tu trebuie să stai înaintea Cezarului; şi iată că Dumnezeu ţi -a dăruit pe toţi cei ce merg cu corabia împreună cu tine.``

²⁵Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

²⁵De aceea, oamenilor, liniştiţi-vă, căci am încredere în Dumnezeu că se va întîmpla aşa cum mi s'a spus.

²⁶Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

²⁶Dar trebuie să dăm peste un ostrov.``

²⁷But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

²⁷În noaptea a patrusprezecea, pe cînd eram împinşi încoace şi încolo cu corabia pe marea Adriatică, pela miezul nopţii, marinarii au bănuit că se apropie de pămînt.

²⁸And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

²⁸Au măsurat adîncimea apei, şi au găsit douăzeci de stînjeni; au mers puţin mai departe, au măsurat -o din nou, şi au găsit cincisprezece stînjeni.

²⁹Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

²⁹De teamă să nu se lovească de stînci, au aruncat patru ancore înspre cîrma corăbiei, şi doreau să se facă ziuă.

³⁰And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

³⁰Dar deoarece corăbierii căutau să fugă din corabie, şi slobozeau luntrea în mare, supt cuvînt că ar vrea să arunce ancorele în spre partea dinainte a corăbiei,

³¹Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

³¹Pavel a zis sutaşului şi ostaşilor: ,,Dacă oamenii aceştia nu vor rămînea în corabie, nu puteţi fi scăpaţi.``

³²Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

³²Atunci ostaşii au tăiat funiile luntrii, şi au lăsat -o să cadă jos.

³³And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

³³Înainte de ziuă, Pavel a rugat pe toţi să mănînce, şi a zis: ,,Astăzi sînt patrusprezece zile, decînd staţi mereu de veghe, şi n'aţi luat nimic de mîncare în gură.

³⁴Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

³⁴Deaceea vă rog să mîncaţi, căci lucrul acesta este pentru scăparea voastră; şi nu vi se va pierde nici un păr din cap.``

³⁵And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

³⁵După ce a spus aceste vorbe, a luat pîne, a mulţămit lui Dumnezeu, înaintea tuturor, a frînt -o, şi a început să mănînce.

³⁶Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

³⁶Toţi s'au îmbărbătat atunci, şi au luat şi ei de au mîncat.

³⁷And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

³⁷În corabie eram de toţi: două sute şaptezeci şi şase de suflete.

³⁸And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

³⁸După ce s'au săturat, au uşurat corabia, aruncînd grîul în mare.

³⁹And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

³⁹Cînd s'a făcut ziuă, n'au cunoscut pămîntul; dar au văzut de departe un golf, care avea maluri nisipoase, şi au hotărît să împingă corabia într'acolo, dacă va fi cu putinţă.

⁴⁰And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

⁴⁰Au tăiat ancorele, ca să le sloboadă în mare, şi au slăbit în acelaş timp funiile cîrmelor; apoi au ridicat ventrila cea mică după suflarea vîntului, şi s'au îndreptat spre mal.

⁴¹And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

⁴¹Dar au dat peste o limbă de pămînt, unde s'a înfipt corabia; şi partea dinainte a corăbiei s'a împlîntat şi stătea neclintită, pe cînd partea dinapoi a început să se rupă de izbitura valurilor.

⁴²And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

⁴²Ostaşii au fost de părere să omoare pe cei întemniţaţi, ca să nu scape vreunul prin înot.

⁴³But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

⁴³Sutaşul însă, care voia să scape pe Pavel, i -a oprit dela gîndul acesta. A poruncit ca cei ce pot înota, să se arunce de pe corabie în apă, şi să iasă cei dintîi la pămînt;

⁴⁴And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

⁴⁴iar ceilalţi să se aşeze unii pe scînduri, iar alţii pe frînturi de corabie, şi aşa s'a făcut că au ajuns toţi teferi la uscat.
