¹Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.

¹Păzeşte-ţi piciorul, cînd intri în Casa lui Dumnezeu, şi apropie-te mai bine să asculţi, decît să aduci jertfa nebunilor; căci ei nu ştiu că fac rău cu aceasta.

²Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

²Nu te grăbi să deschizi gura, şi să nu-ţi rostească inima cuvinte pripite înaintea lui Dumnezeu; căci Dumnezeu este în cer, şi tu pe pămînt, de aceea să nu spui vorbe multe.

³For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.

³Căci, dacă visurile se nasc din mulţimea grijilor, prostia nebunului se cunoaşte din mulţimea cuvintelor.

⁴When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

⁴Dacă ai făcut o juruinţă lui Dumnezeu, nu zăbovi s'o împlineşti, căci Lui nu -I plac cei fără minte; de aceea împlineşte juruinţa, pe care ai făcut -o.

⁵Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

⁵Mai bine să nu faci nicio juruinţă, decît să faci o juruinţă şi să n'o împlineşti.

⁶Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

⁶Nu lăsa gura să te bage în păcat, şi nu zice înaintea trimesului lui Dumnezeu: ,,M'am pripit.`` Pentruce să Se mînie Dumnezeu din pricina cuvintelor tale, şi să nimicească lucrarea mînilor tale?

⁷For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

⁷Căci, dacă este deşertăciune în mulţimea visurilor, nu mai puţin este şi în mulţimea vorbelor; de aceea, teme-te de Dumnezeu.

⁸If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

⁸Cînd vezi în ţară pe cel sărac năpăstuit şi jăfuit în numele dreptului şi dreptăţii, să nu te miri de lucrul acesta! Căci peste cel mare veghează altul mai mare, şi peste ei toţi Cel Prea Înalt.

⁹Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

⁹Dar un folos pentru ţară în toate privinţele, este un împărat preţuit în ţară.

¹⁰He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

¹⁰Cine iubeşte argintul, nu se satură niciodată de argint, şi cine iubeşte bogăţia multă, nu trage folos din ea. Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune!

¹¹When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

¹¹Cînd se înmulţesc bunătăţile, se înmulţesc şi ceice le papă: şi ce folos mai are din ele stăpînul lor decît că le vede cu ochii?

¹²The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

¹²Dulce este somnul lucrătorului, fie că a mîncat mult, fie că a mîncat puţin; dar pe cel bogat nu -l lasă îmbuibarea să doarmă.

¹³There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.

¹³Este un mare rău, pe care l-am văzut supt soare: avuţii păstrate spre nefericirea stăpînului lor.

¹⁴But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

¹⁴Dacă se perd aceste bogăţii prin vreo întîmplare nenorocită, şi el are un fiu, fiului nu -i rămîne nimic în mîni.

¹⁵As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁵Cum a ieşit de gol din pîntecele mamei sale, din care a venit, aşa se întoarce, şi nu poate să ia nimic în mînă din toată osteneala lui.

¹⁶And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?

¹⁶Şi acesta este un mare rău, anume că se duce cum venise; şi ce folos are el că s'a trudit în vînt?

¹⁷All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

¹⁷Ba încă, toată viaţa lui a mai trebuit să mănînce cu necaz, şi a avut multă durere, grijă şi supărare.

¹⁸Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.

¹⁸Iată ce am văzut: este bine şi frumos ca omul să mănînce şi să bea, şi să trăiască bine în mijlocul muncii lui, cu care se trudeşte supt soare, în toate zilele vieţii lui, pe cari i le -a dat Dumnezeu; căci aceasta este partea lui.

¹⁹Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

¹⁹Dar dacă a dat Dumnezeu cuiva avere şi bogăţii, şi i -a îngăduit să mănînce din ele, să-şi ia partea lui din ele, şi să se bucure în mijlocul muncii lui, acesta este un dar dela Dumnezeu.

²⁰For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

²⁰Căci nu se mai gîndeşte mult la scurtimea zilelor vieţii lui, de vreme ce Dumnezeu îi umple inima de bucurie.
