¹And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

²And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

²Pornind ei înspre răsărit, au dat peste o cîmpie în ţara Şinear; şi au descălecat acolo.

³And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

³Şi au zis unul către altul: ,,Haidem! să facem cărămizi, şi să le ardem bine în foc.`` Şi cărămida le -a ţinut loc de piatră, iar smoala le -a ţinut loc de var.

⁴And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

⁴Si au mai zis: ,,Haidem! să ne zidim o cetate şi un turn al cărui vîrf să atingă cerul, şi să ne facem un nume, ca să nu fim împrăştiaţi pe toată faţa pămîntului.``

⁵And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

⁵Domnul S'a pogorît să vadă cetatea şi turnul, pe care -l zideau fiii oamenilor.

⁶And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

⁶Şi Domnul a zis: ,,Iată, ei sînt un singur popor, şi toţi au aceeaş limbă; şi iacă de ce s'au apucat; acum nimic nu i-ar împedeca să facă tot ce şi-au pus în gînd.

⁷Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

⁷Haidem! să Ne pogorîm şi să le încurcăm acolo limba, ca să nu-şi mai înţeleagă vorba unii altora.``

⁸So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

⁸Şi Domnul i -a împrăştiat de acolo pe toată faţa pămîntului; aşa că au încetat să zidească cetatea.

⁹Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

⁹De aceea cetatea a fost numită Babel, căci acolo a încurcat Domnul limba întregului pămînt, şi de acolo i -a împrăştiat Domnul pe toată faţa pămîntului.

¹⁰These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

¹⁰Iată spiţa neamului lui Sem. La vîrsta de o sută de ani, Sem a născut pe Arpacşad, la doi ani după potop.

¹¹And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹¹După naşterea lui Arpacşad, Sem a trăit cincisute de ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

¹²And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

¹²La vrîsta de treizeci şi cinci de ani, Arpacşad a născut pe Şelah.

¹³And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹³După naşterea lui Şelah, Arpacşad a mai trăit patrusute trei ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

¹⁴And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

¹⁴La vrîsta de treizeci de ani, Şelah a născut pe Eber.

¹⁵And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁵După naşterea lui Eber, Şelah a mai trăit patrusute trei ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

¹⁶And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

¹⁶La vîrsta de treizeci şi patru de ani, Eber a născut pe Peleg.

¹⁷And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁷După naşterea lui Peleg, Eber a mai trăit patrusute treizeci de ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

¹⁸And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

¹⁸La vîrsta de treizeci de ani, Peleg a născut pe Reu.

¹⁹And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁹După naşterea lui Reu, Peleg a mai trăit douăsute nouă ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

²⁰And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

²⁰La vîrsta de treizeci şi doi de ani, Reu a născut pe Serug.

²¹And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

²¹După naşterea lui Serug, Reu a mai trăit douăsute şapte ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

²²And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

²²La vîrsta de treizeci de ani, Serug a născut pe Nahor.

²³And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

²³După naşterea lui Nahor, Serug a mai trăit două sute de ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

²⁴And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

²⁴La vîrsta de douăzeci şi nouă de ani, Nahor a născut pe Terah.

²⁵And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

²⁵După naşterea lui Terah, Nahor a mai trăit o sută nouăsprezece ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.

²⁶And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁶La vîrsta de şaptezeci de ani, Terah a născut pe Avram, pe Nahor şi pe Haran.

²⁷Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

²⁷Iată spiţa neamului lui Terah. Terah a născut pe Avram, pe Nahor şi pe Haran. -Haran a născut pe Lot.

²⁸And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

²⁸Şi Haran a murit în faţa tatălui său Terah, în ţara în care se născuse, în Ur în Haldea. -

²⁹And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

²⁹Avram şi Nahor şi-au luat neveste. Numele nevestei lui Avram era Sarai, şi numele nevestei lui Nahor era Milca, fiica lui Haran, tatăl Milcăi şi Iscăi.

³⁰But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

³⁰Sarai era stearpă: n'avea copii deloc.

³¹And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

³¹Terah a luat pe fiul său Avram, şi pe Lot, fiul lui Haran, fiul fiului său, şi pe Sarai, noru-sa, nevasta fiului său Avram. Au ieşit împreună din Ur din Haldea, ca să meargă în ţara Canaan. Au venit pînăla Haran, şi s'au aşezat acolo.

³²And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

³²Zilele lui Terah au fost de două sute cinci ani; şi Terah a murit în Haran.
