¹My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

¹Fraţii mei, să nu ţineţi credinţa Domnului nostru Isus Hristos, Domnul slavei, căutînd la faţa omului.

²For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

²Căci, de pildă, dacă intră în adunarea voastră un om cu un inel de aur şi cu o haină strălucitoare, şi intră şi un sărac îmbrăcat prost;

³And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

³şi voi puneţi ochii pe celce poartă haina strălucitoare, şi -i ziceţi: ,,Tu şezi în locul acesta bun!`` Şi apoi ziceţi săracului: ,,Tu stai colo în picioare!`` Sau: ,,Şezi jos la picioarele mele!``

⁴Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

⁴Nu faceţi voi oare o deosebire în voi înşivă, şi nu vă faceţi voi judecători cu gînduri rele?

⁵Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

⁵Ascultaţi, prea iubiţii mei fraţi: n'a ales Dumnezeu pe cei ce sînt săraci în ochii lumii acesteia, ca să -i facă bogaţi în credinţă şi moştenitori ai Împărăţiei, pe care a făgăduit -o celor ce -L iubesc?

⁶But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

⁶Şi voi înjosiţi pe cel sărac! Oare nu bogaţii vă asupresc şi vă tîrăsc înaintea judecătoriilor?

⁷Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

⁷Nu batjocoresc ei frumosul nume pe care -l purtaţi?

⁸If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

⁸Dacă împliniţi Legea împărătească, potrivit Scripturii: ,,Să iubeşti pe aproapele tău ca pe tine însuţi``, bine faceţi.

⁹But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

⁹Dar dacă aveţi în vedere faţa omului, faceţi un păcat, şi sînteţi osîndiţi de Lege ca nişte călcători de lege.

¹⁰For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

¹⁰Căci, cine păzeşte toată Legea, şi greşeşte într'o singură poruncă, se face vinovat de toate.

¹¹For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

¹¹Căci, Cel ce a zis: ,,Să nu preacurveşti``, a zis şi: ,,Să nu ucizi``. Acum, dacă nu preacurveşti, dar ucizi, te faci călcător al Legii.

¹²So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

¹²Să vorbiţi şi să lucraţi ca nişte oameni cari au să fie judecaţi de o lege a slobozeniei:

¹³For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

¹³căci judecata este fără milă pentru celce n'a avut milă; dar mila biruieşte judecata.

¹⁴What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

¹⁴Fraţii mei, ce -i foloseşte cuiva să spună că are credinţă, dacă n'are fapte? Poate oare credinţa aceasta să -l mîntuiască?

¹⁵If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

¹⁵Dacă un frate sau o soră sînt goi şi lipsiţi de hrana de toate zilele,

¹⁶And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

¹⁶şi unul dintre voi le zice: ,,Duceţi-vă în pace, încălziţi-vă şi săturaţi-vă!`` fără să le dea cele trebuincioase trupului, la ce i-ar folosi?

¹⁷Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

¹⁷Tot aşa şi credinţa: dacă n'are fapte, este moartă în ea însaş.

¹⁸Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

¹⁸Dar va zice cineva: ,,Tu ai credinţa, şi eu am faptele.`` ,,Arată-mi credinţa ta fără fapte, şi eu îţi voi arăta credinţa mea din faptele mele.``

¹⁹Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

¹⁹Tu crezi că Dumnezeu este unul, şi bine faci; dar şi dracii cred... şi se înfioară!

²⁰But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

²⁰Vrei dar să înţelegi, om nesocotit, că credinţa fără fapte este zădarnică?

²¹Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

²¹Avraam, părintele nostru, n'a fost el socotit neprihănit prin fapte, cînd a adus pe fiul său Isaac jertfă pe altar?

²²Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

²²Vezi că credinţa lucra împreună cu faptele lui, şi, prin fapte, credinţa a ajuns desăvîrşită.

²³And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

²³Astfel s'a împlinit Scriptura care zice: ,,Avraam a crezut pe Dumnezeu, şi i s'a socotit ca neprihănire``; şi el a fost numit ,,prietenul lui Dumnezeu.``

²⁴Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

²⁴Vedeţi dar că omul este socotit neprihănit prin fapte, şi nu numai prin credinţă.

²⁵Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

²⁵Tot aşa, curva Rahav: n'a fost socotită şi ea neprihănită prin fapte, cînd a găzduit pe soli şi i -a scos afară pe altă cale?

²⁶For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

²⁶După cum trupul fără duh este mort, tot aşa şi credinţa fără fapte este moartă.
