¹James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

¹Iacov, rob al lui Dumnezeu şi al Domnului Isus Hristos, către cele douăsprezece seminţii cari sînt împrăştiate: sănătate!

²My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

²Fraţii mei, să priviţi ca o mare bucurie cînd treceţi prin felurite încercări,

³Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

³ca unii cari ştiţi că încercarea credinţei voastre lucrează răbdare.

⁴But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

⁴Dar răbdarea trebuie să-şi facă desăvîrşit lucrarea, pentruca să fiţi desăvîrşiţi, întregi, şi să nu duceţi lipsă de nimic.

⁵If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

⁵Dacă vreunuia dintre voi îi lipseşte înţelepciunea, s'o ceară dela Dumnezeu, care dă tuturor cu mînă largă şi fără mustrare, şi ea îi va fi dată.

⁶But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

⁶Dar s'o ceară cu credinţă, fără să se îndoiască deloc: pentrucă cine se îndoieşte, seamănă cu valul mării, turburat şi împins de vînt încoace şi încolo.

⁷For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

⁷Un astfel de om să nu se aştepte să primească ceva dela Domnul,

⁸A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

⁸căci este un om nehotărît şi nestatornic în toate căile sale.

⁹Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

⁹Fratele dintr'o stare de jos să se laude cu înălţarea lui.

¹⁰But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

¹⁰Bogatul, dimpotrivă, să se laude cu smerirea lui: căci va trece ca floarea ierbii.

¹¹For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

¹¹Răsare soarele cu căldura lui arzătoare, şi usucă iarba: floarea ei cade jos, şi frumuseţea înfăţişării ei piere: aşa se va vesteji bogatul în umbletele lui.

¹²Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

¹²Ferice de cel ce rabdă ispita. Căci dupăce a fost găsit bun, va primi cununa vieţii, pe care a făgăduit -o Dumnezeu celor ce -L iubesc.

¹³Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

¹³Nimeni, cînd este ispitit, să nu zică: ,,Sînt ispitit de Dumnezeu``. Căci Dumnezeu nu poate fi ispitit ca să facă rău, şi El însuş nu ispiteşte pe nimeni.

¹⁴But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

¹⁴Ci fiecare este ispitit, cînd este atras de pofta lui însuş şi momit.

¹⁵Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

¹⁵Apoi pofta, cînd a zămislit, dă naştere păcatului; şi păcatul odată făptuit, aduce moartea.

¹⁶Do not err, my beloved brethren.

¹⁶Nu vă înşelaţi prea iubiţii mei fraţi:

¹⁷Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

¹⁷orice ni se dă bun şi orice dar desăvîrşit este de sus, pogorîndu-se dela Tatăl luminilor, în care nu este nici schimbare, nici umbră de mutare.

¹⁸Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

¹⁸El, de bună voia Lui, ne -a născut prin Cuvîntul adevărului, ca să fim un fel de pîrgă a făpturilor Lui.

¹⁹Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

¹⁹Ştiţi bine lucrul acesta, prea iubiţii mei fraţi! Orice om să fie grabnic la ascultare, încet la vorbire, zăbavnic la mînie;

²⁰For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

²⁰căci mînia omului nu lucrează neprihănirea lui Dumnezeu.

²¹Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

²¹De aceea lepădaţi orice necurăţie şi orice revărsare de răutate şi primiţi cu blîndeţă Cuvîntul sădit în voi, care vă poate mîntui sufletele.

²²But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

²²Fiţi împlinitori ai Cuvîntului, nu numai ascultători, înşelîndu-vă singuri.

²³For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

²³Căci dacă ascultă cineva Cuvîntul, şi nu -l împlineşte cu fapta, seamănă cu un om, care îşi priveşte faţa firească într'o oglindă;

²⁴For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

²⁴şi, dupăce s'a privit, pleacă şi uită îndată cum era.

²⁵But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

²⁵Dar cine îşi va adînci privirile în legea desăvîrşită, care este legea slobozeniei, şi va stărui în ea, nu ca un ascultător uituc, ci ca un împlinitor cu fapta, va fi fericit în lucrarea lui.

²⁶If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

²⁶Dacă crede cineva că este religios, şi nu-şi înfrînează limba, ci îşi înşeală inima, religiunea unui astfel de om este zădarnică.

²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

²⁷Religiunea curată şi neîntinată, înaintea lui Dumnezeu, Tatăl nostru, este să cercetăm pe orfani şi pe văduve în necazurile lor, şi să ne păzim neîntinaţi de lume.
