⁴The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

⁴Cuvintele gurii unui om sînt ca nişte ape adînci; izvorul înţelepciunii este ca un şivoi care curge într'una. -

⁵It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

⁵Nu este bine să ai în vedere faţa celui rău, ca să nedreptăţeşti pe cel neprihănit la judecată. -

⁶A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

⁶Vorbele nebunului aduc ceartă, şi gura lui înjură pînă stîrneşte lovituri. -

⁷A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

⁷Gura nebunului îi aduce pieirea, şi buzele îi sînt o cursă pentru suflet. -

⁸The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

⁸Cuvintele bîrfitorului sînt ca prăjiturile: alunecă pînă în fundul măruntaielor. -

⁹He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

⁹Cine se leneveşte în lucrul lui este frate cu cel ce nimiceşte. -

¹⁰The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

¹⁰Numele Domnului este un turn tare; cel neprihănit fuge în el, şi stă la adăpost. -

¹¹The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

¹¹Averea este o cetate întărită pentru cel bogat; în închipuirea lui, ea este un zid înalt. -

¹²Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

¹²Înainte de pieire, inima omului se îngîmfă, dar smerenia merge înaintea slavei. -

¹³He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

¹³Cine răspunde fără să fi ascultat, face o prostie şi îşi trage ruşinea. -

¹⁴The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

¹⁴Duhul omului îl sprijineşte la boală; dar duhul doborît de întristare, cine -l va ridica? -

¹⁵The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

¹⁵O inimă pricepută dobîndeşte ştiinţa, şi urechea celor înţelepţi caută ştiinţa. -

¹⁶A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

¹⁶Darurile unui om îi fac loc, şi -i deschid intrarea înaintea celor mari. -

¹⁷He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

¹⁷Cel care vorbeşte întîi în pricina lui, pare că are dreptate, dar vine celalt, şi -l ia la cercetare. -

¹⁸The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

¹⁸Sorţul pune capăt neînţelegerilor, şi hotărăşte între cei puternici. -

¹⁹A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

¹⁹Fraţii nedreptăţiţi sînt mai greu de cîştigat decît o cetate întărită, şi certurile lor sînt tot aşa de greu de înlăturat ca zăvoarele unei case împărăteşti. -

²⁰A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

²⁰Din rodul gurii lui îşi satură omul trupul, din venitul buzelor lui se satură. -

²¹Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

²¹Moartea şi viaţa sînt în puterea limbii; oricine o iubeşte, îi va mînca roadele. -

²²Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

²²Cine găseşte o nevastă bună, găseşte fericirea; este un har pe care -l capătă dela Domnul. -

²³The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

²³Săracul vorbeşte rugîndu-se, dar bogatul răspunde cu asprime. -

²⁴A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

²⁴Cine îşi face mulţi prieteni, îi face spre nenorocirea lui, dar este un prieten care ţine mai mult la tine decît un frate. -
