1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
1Cuvintele împăratului Lemuel. Învăţătura pe care i -o dădea mamă-sa.
2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
2Ce să-ţi spun, fiule? Ce să-ţi spun fiul trupului meu? Ce să-ţi spun, fiule, rodul juruinţelor mele?
3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
3Nu-ţi da femeilor vlaga, şi desmierdările tale celor ce pierd pe împăraţi.
4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
4Nu se cade împăraţilor, Lemuele, nu se cade împăraţilor să bea vin, nici voivozilor să umble după băuturi tari;
5Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
5ca nu cumva, bînd, să uite legea, şi să calce drepturile tuturor celor nenorociţi.
6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
6Daţi băuturi tari celui ce piere, şi vin, celui cu sufletul amărît;
7Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
7ca să bea să-şi uite sărăcia, şi să nu-şi mai aducă aminte de necazurile lui. -
8Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
8Deschide-ţi gura pentru cel mut, pentru pricina tuturor celor părăsiţi!
9Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
9Deschide-ţi gura, judecă cu dreptate, şi apără pe cel nenorocit şi pe cel lipsit.
10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
10Cine poate găsi o femeie cinstită? Ea este mai de preţ decît mărgăritarele.
11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
11Inima bărbatului se încrede în ea, şi nu duce lipsă de venituri.
12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
12Ea îi face bine, şi nu rău, în toate zilele vieţii sale.
13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
13Ea face rost de lînă şi de in, şi lucrează cu mîni harnice.
14She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
14Ea este ca o corabie de negoţ; de departe îşi aduce pînea.
15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
15Ea se scoală cînd este încă noapte, şi dă hrană casei sale, şi împarte lucrul de peste zi slujnicelor sale.
16She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
16Se gîndeşte la un ogor, şi -l cumpără; din rodul muncii ei sădeşte o vie. -
17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
17Ea îşi încinge mijlocul cu putere, şi îşi oţeleşte braţele.
18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
18Vede că munca îi merge bine, lumina ei nu se stinge noaptea.
19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
19Ea pune mîna pe furcă, şi degetele ei ţin fusul.
20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
20Ea îşi întinde mîna către cel nenorocit, îşi întinde braţul către cel lipsit.
21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
21Nu se teme de zăpadă pentru casa ei, căci toată casa ei este îmbrăcată cu cărmiziu.
22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
22Ea îşi face învelitori, are haine de in supţire şi purpură.
23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
23Bărbatul ei este bine văzut la porţi, cînd şade cu bătrînii ţării.
24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
24Ea face cămăşi, şi le vinde, şi dă cingători negustorului.
25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
25Ea este îmbrăcată cu tărie şi slavă, şi rîde de ziua de mîne.
26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
26Ea deschide gura cu înţelepciune, şi învăţături plăcute îi sînt pe limbă.
27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
27Ea veghează asupra celor ce se petrec în casa ei, şi nu mănîncă pînea lenevirii.
28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
28Fiii ei se scoală, şi o numesc fericită; bărbatul ei se scoală, şi -i aduce laude zicînd:
29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
29,,Multe fete au o purtare cinstită, dar tu le întreci pe toate.``
30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
30Desmerdările sînt înşelătoare, şi frumuseţa este deşartă, dar femeia care se teme de Domnul va fi lăudată.
31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
31Răsplătiţi -o cu rodul muncii ei, şi faptele ei s'o laude la porţile cetăţii
