¹What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

¹Ce vom zice dar că a căpătat, prin puterea lui, strămoşul nostru Avraam?

²For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

²Dacă Avraam a fost socotit neprihănit prin fapte, are cu ce să se laude, dar nu înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

³For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

³Căci ce zice Scriptura? ,,Avraam a crezut pe Dumnezeu, şi aceasta i s'a socotit ca neprihănire.``

⁴Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

⁴Însă, celui ce lucrează, plata cuvenită lui i se socoteşte nu ca un har, ci ca ceva datorat;

⁵But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

⁵pe cînd, celui ce nu lucrează, ci crede în Cel ce socoteşte pe păcătos neprihănit, credinţa pe care o are el, îi este socotită ca neprihănire.

⁶Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

⁶Tot astfel, şi David numeşte fericit pe omul acela, pe care Dumnezeu, fără fapte, îl socoteşte neprihănit.

⁷Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

⁷,,Ferice``, zice el, ,,de aceia ale căror fără de legi sînt iertate, şi ale căror păcate sînt acoperite!

⁸Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

⁸Ferice de omul, căruia nu -i ţine Domnul în seamă păcatul!``

⁹Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

⁹Fericirea aceasta este numai pentru cei tăiaţi împrejur sau şi pentru cei netăiaţi împrejur? Căci zicem că lui Avraam credinţa ,,i -a fost socotită ca neprihănire.``

¹⁰How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

¹⁰Dar cum i -a fost socotită? După, sau înainte de tăierea lui împrejur? Nu cînd era tăiat împrejur, ci cînd era netăiat împrejur.

¹¹And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

¹¹Apoi a primit ca semn tăierea împrejur, ca o pecete a acelei neprihăniri, pe care o căpătase prin credinţă, cînd era netăiat împrejur. Şi aceasta, pentru ca să fie tatăl tuturor celor cari cred, măcar că nu sînt tăiaţi împrejur; ca, adică, să li se socotească şi lor neprihănirea aceasta;

¹²And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

¹²şi pentru ca să fie şi tatăl celor tăiaţi împrejur, adică al acelora cari, nu numai că sînt tăiaţi împrejur, dar şi calcă pe urmele credinţei aceleia, pe care o avea tatăl nostru Avraam, cînd nu era tăiat împrejur.

¹³For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

¹³În adevăr, făgăduinţa făcută lui Avraam sau seminţei lui, că va moşteni lumea, n'a fost făcută pe temeiul Legii, ci pe temeiul acelei neprihăniri, care se capătă prin credinţă.

¹⁴For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

¹⁴Căci, dacă moştenitori sînt ceice se ţin de Lege, credinţa este zădarnică, şi făgăduinţa este nimicită;

¹⁵Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

¹⁵pentrucă Legea aduce mînie; şi unde nu este o lege, acolo nu este nici călcare de lege.

¹⁶Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

¹⁶Deaceea moştenitori sînt ceice se fac prin credinţă, pentruca să fie prin har, şi pentruca făgăduinţa să fie chezăşuită pentru toată sămînţa lui Avraam: nu numai pentru sămînţa aceea care este supt Lege, ci şi pentru sămînţa aceea care are credinţa lui Avraam, tatăl nostru al tuturor,

¹⁷(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

¹⁷dupăcum este scris: ,,Te-am rînduit să fii tatăl multor neamuri.`` El, adică, este tatăl nostru înaintea lui Dumnezeu, în care a crezut, care înviază morţii, şi care cheamă lucrurile cari nu sînt, ca şi cum ar fi.

¹⁸Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

¹⁸Nădăjduind împotriva oricărei nădejdi, el a crezut, şi astfel a ajuns tatăl multor neamuri, dupăcum i se spusese: ,,Aşa va fi sămînţa ta.``

¹⁹And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

¹⁹Şi, fiindcă n'a fost slab în credinţă, el nu s'a uitat la trupul său, care era îmbătrînit, -avea aproape o sută de ani, -nici la faptul că Sara nu mai putea să aibă copii.

²⁰He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

²⁰El nu s'a îndoit de făgăduinţa lui Dumnezeu, prin necredinţă, ci, întărit prin credinţa lui, a dat slavă lui Dumnezeu,

²¹And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

²¹deplin încredinţat că El ce făgăduieşte, poate să şi împlinească.

²²And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

²²De aceea credinţa aceasta ,,i -a fost socotită ca neprihănire.``

²³Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

²³Dar nu numai pentru el este scris că ,,i -a fost socotită ca neprihănire``;

²⁴But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

²⁴ci este scris şi pentru noi, cărora de asemenea ne va fi socotită, nouă celor ce credem în Cel ce a înviat din morţi pe Isus Hristos, Domnul nostru,

²⁵Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

²⁵care a fost dat din pricina fărădelegilor noastre, şi a înviat din pricină că am fost socotiţi neprihăniţi.
