1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Milovaní, neverte každému duchu, ale zkúšajte duchov, či sú z Boha, pretože mnohí falošní proroci vyšli do sveta.
2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
2Po tomto znajte Ducha Božieho: každý duch, ktorý vyznáva Ježiša Krista, prišlého v tele, je z Boha;
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
3a každý duch, ktorý nevyznáva Ježiša Krista, prišlého v tele, nie je z Boha, a to je ten duch antikristov, o ktorom duchu ste počuli, že prijde, a je už aj teraz na svete.
4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4Vy ste z Boha, dieťatká, a zvíťazili ste nad nimi, pretože ten, ktorý je vo vás, je väčší ako ten, ktorý je vo svete.
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
5Oni sú zo sveta, preto hovoria zo sveta, a svet ich čuje.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
6My sme z Boha: kto zná Boha, čuje nás; kto nie je z Boha, nečuje nás. Ztadiaľ známe ducha pravdy a ducha bludu.
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
7Milovaní, milujme jedni druhých, pretože láska je z Boha, a každý, kto miluje, narodil sa z Boha a zná Boha.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
8Ten, kto nemiluje, nepoznal Boha, pretože Bôh je láska.
9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
9V tom sa zjavila láska Božia v nás, že svojho Syna, jednorodeného, poslal Bôh na svet, aby sme žili skrze neho.
10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
10V tomto je láska: nie že by sme my boli milovali Boha, ale že on miloval nás a poslal svojho Syna jako smierenie za naše hriechy.
11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
11Milovaní, ak nás Bôh tak miloval, aj my sme povinní milovať jeden druhého.
12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
12Boha nikto nikdy nevidel; keď milujeme jeden druhého, Bôh zostáva v nás, a jeho láska je v nás dokonaná.
13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
13Po tom známe, že zostávame v ňom a on v nás, že nám dal zo svojho Ducha.
14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
14A my sme videli a svedčíme, že Otec poslal Syna za Spasiteľa sveta.
15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
15Ktokoľvek vyzná, že Ježiš je Syn Boží, Bôh zostáva v ňom a on v Bohu.
16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
16A my sme poznali a uverili lásku, ktorú má Bôh v nás. Bôh je láska, a ten, kto zostáva v láske, zostáva v Bohu, a Bôh v ňom.
17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
17V tom je dokonaná láska s nami, aby sme mali smelú dôveru v deň súdu, lebo jako je on, tak sme aj my na tomto svete.
18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
18Bázne nieto v láske, ale dokonalá láska vyháňa bázeň, pretože bázeň má trápenie, a ten, kto sa bojí, nie je dokonaný v láske.
19We love him, because he first loved us.
19My milujeme jeho, preto že on prvý miloval nás.
20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
20Keby niekto povedal: Milujem Boha, a svojho brata by nenávidel, je lhár; lebo ten, kto nemiluje svojho brata, ktorého videl, ako môže milovať Boha, ktorého nevidel?!
21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
21A toto prikázanie máme od neho, aby ten, kto miluje Boha, miloval i svojho brata.
