¹Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

¹Preto zanechajúc počiatky učenia o Kristu nesme sa k dokonalosti a neklaďme zase základu pokánia z mŕtvych skutkov a viery na Boha,

²Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

²učenia o umývaniach, o vzkladaní rúk, o zmŕtvychvstaní mŕtvych a o večnom súde.

³And this will we do, if God permit.

³A urobíme aj to, keď len dovolí Bôh.

⁴For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

⁴Lebo je nemožné tých, ktorí už raz boli osvietení a ochutnali nebeského daru a stali sa účastnými Svätého Ducha

⁵And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

⁵a ochutnali dobré slovo Božie a rôzne moci budúceho veku,

⁶If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

⁶keby odpadli, zase obnoviť ku pokániu, ktorí sebe znova križujú Syna Božieho a vystavujú ho potupne na odiv.

⁷For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

⁷Lebo zem, ktorá pije dážď, ktorý často prichádza na ňu, a plodí rastlinu, vhodnú tým, pre ktorých sa aj obrába, berie podiel na požehnaní od Boha.

⁸But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

⁸Ale tá, ktorá rodí tŕnie a bodľač, je nesúca a je blízka zlorečenstva, ktorej koniec je, aby bola spálená.

⁹But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

⁹Ale sme presvedčení o vás, milovaní, lepšie veci, a ktoré idú so spasením, i keď tak hovoríme.

¹⁰For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

¹⁰Lebo Bôh nie je nespravedlivý, aby zabudol na vaše dielo a na trudnú prácu vašej lásky, ktorú ste dokázali oproti jeho menu, keď ste slúžili svätým a ešte vždy slúžite.

¹¹And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

¹¹Ale želáme si, aby jeden každý z vás dokazoval tú istú snahu na plnosť nádeje do konca,

¹²That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

¹²aby ste nezleniveli, ale aby ste nasledovali tých, ktorí vierou a zhovievavosťou dedia zasľúbenia.

¹³For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

¹³Lebo keď dával Bôh Abrahámovi zasľúbenie, keďže nemal na koho iného väčšieho prisahať, prisahal sám na seba

¹⁴Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

¹⁴a povedal: Požehnám, áno, požehnám ťa a veľmi ťa rozmnožím.

¹⁵And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

¹⁵A tak trpezlive vyčkajúc dosiahol zasľúbenie.

¹⁶For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.

¹⁶Lebo ľudia prisahajú na väčšieho, a každému sporu medzi nimi urobí koniec na stvrdenie složená prísaha.

¹⁷Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

¹⁷A preto, že Bôh chcel svrchovane ukázať dedičom zasľúbenia nezmeniteľnosť svojej rady, vložil do toho prísahu,

¹⁸That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

¹⁸aby sme dvoma nezmeniteľnými vecami, zasľúbením Božím a jeho prísahou, v ktorých je nemožné Bohu oklamať, mali silné potešenie, my, ktorí sme unikli, uchopiť nádej, ktorá leží pred nami,

¹⁹Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

¹⁹ktorú máme sťa kotvu duše, bezpečnú a pevnú, a ktorá vchádza do vnútra za oponu,

²⁰Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

²⁰kde jako predbehúň vošiel za nás Ježiš stanúc sa veľkňazom podľa poriadku Melchisedechovho až na veky.
