1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
1Jakob, Boha a Pána Ježiša Krista sluha, dvanástim pokoleniam, ktoré sú v diaspore, posiela pozdravenie.
2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
2Považujte to za každú radosť, moji bratia, keď na okolo upádate do rôznych pokušení
3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
3vediac, že dokázanosť vašej viery pôsobí trpezlivosť.
4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
4A trpezlivosť nech má dokonalý skutok, aby ste boli dokonalí a celí, nemajúci v ničom nedostatku.
5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
5A jestli sa niekomu z vás nedostáva múdrosti, nech prosí od Boha, ktorý dáva proste všetkým a nevyčituje, a bude mu daná.
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
6Ale nech prosí vo viere nič nepochybujúc; lebo ten, kto pochybuje, podobá sa morskej vlne, hnanej a zmietanej vetrom.
7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
7Lebo nech sa nedomnieva taký človek, že dostane voľačo od Pána.
8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
8Muž dvojej mysle je nestály na všetkých svojich cestách.
9Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
9A ponížený brat nech sa chváli svojou vysokosťou
10But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
10a bohatý svojou poníženosťou, lebo sa pominie ako kvet trávy.
11For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
11Lebo vyšlo slnce s páľou a usušilo trávu, a jej kvet opadol, a spanilosť jej tvári zhynula. Tak uvädne aj bohatý na svojich cestách.
12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
12Blahoslavený muž, ktorý znáša pokušenia, lebo keď bude zkúsený a dokáže sa, dostane korunu života, ktorú Pán zasľúbil tým, ktorí ho milujú.
13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
13Nech nikto nehovorí, keď je pokúšaný, že vraj pokúšaný som pokušením od Boha, lebo veď Boha nemožno pokúšať na zlé, a tiež ani sám nepokúša nikoho.
14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
14Ale každý je pokúšaný od svojej žiadosti, vyvlačovaný a vábený,
15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
15a potom žiadosť, keď počne, rodí hriech, a hriech, keď je vykonaný, plodí smrť.
16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
16Neblúďte, moji milovaní bratia!
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
17Každé dobré danie a každý dokonalý dar sostupuje s hora od Otca svetiel, u ktorého nieto zmeny, alebo nejakého obratu zatônenia.
18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
18A chcúc to tak, splodil nás slovom pravdy, aby sme boli jakousi prvotinou jeho stvorení!
19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
19Takže, moji milovaní bratia, nech je každý človek rýchly počuť, pomalý hovoriť, pomalý do hnevu.
20For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
20Lebo hnev muža nepôsobí spravedlivosti Božej.
21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
21Preto složiac každú špinu a zbytok zlosti v tichej krotkosti prijmite vsadené slovo, ktoré má moc spasiť vaše duše.
22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
22A buďte činiteľmi slova a nie len poslucháčmi, ktorí klamú sami seba falošným rozumovaním.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
23Lebo ak je niekto poslucháčom slova a nie činiteľom, ten sa podobá mužovi, ktorý pozerá svoju prirodzenú tvár v zrkadle.
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
24Lebo sa videl a odišiel a hneď zabudol, aký bol.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
25Ale ten, kto dobre nazrel v dokonalý zákon, v zákon slobody, a zotrval pri tom, ten, pretože nie je iba zábudlivým poslucháčom, ale činiteľom skutku, ten bude blahoslavený vo svojom konaní.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
26Ak sa niekomu medzi vami zdá, že je nábožný, a nedrží svojho jazyka na úzde, ale zvodí svoje srdce, toho náboženstvo je márne.
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
27Čisté náboženstvo a nepoškvrnené u Boha a Otca je toto: navštevovať siroty a vdovy v ich súžení a seba ostríhať nepoškvrneného od sveta.
