¹Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

¹Vsi, ki so kot hlapci pod jarmom, naj imajo svoje gospodarje za vse časti vredne, da se ne govori grdo o imenu Božjem in nauku.

²And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

²Kateri pa imajo verne gospodarje, naj jih ne zaničujejo, ker so bratje; ampak tem rajši naj služijo, ker so verni in ljubljeni, kateri prejemajo to dobroto. To uči in opominjaj.

³If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

³Ako kdo drugače uči in noče pristati na zdrave besede, besede Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa, in na nauk, ki vodi k pobožnosti,

⁴He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

⁴je napihnjen in ničesar ne ume, marveč boleha za pregovarjanjem in besednimi prepiri, iz katerih se izcimi zavist, pričkanje, preklinjanje, natolcevanje,

⁵Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

⁵neprestano besedičenje ljudi, popačenih na umu in brez resnice, ki mislijo, da je pobožnost dobiček.

⁶But godliness with contentment is great gain.

⁶Je pa velik dobiček pobožnost, združena z zadovoljnostjo.

⁷For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

⁷Zakaj ničesar nismo prinesli na svet, ker tudi odnesti ne moremo ničesar;

⁸And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

⁸če pa imamo hrane in odeje, bodimo s tem zadovoljni.

⁹But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

⁹Kateri pa hočejo biti bogati, padejo v izkušnjavo in past in v mnoga poželenja, nespametna in škodljiva, ki pogrezajo ljudi v pogubljenje in pogin.

¹⁰For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁰Korenina vsega zlega namreč je srebroljubje; njemu vdani, so nekateri zabredli od vere in sami so se presunili z mnogimi bolečinami.

¹¹But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

¹¹Ti pa, o človek Božji, beži od tega; hodi pa za pravičnostjo, pobožnostjo, vero, ljubeznijo, stanovitnostjo, krotkostjo.

¹²Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

¹²Bij dobri boj vere, poprimi se večnega življenja, ki si bil zanje poklican in si pripoznal lepo veroizpoved pred mnogimi pričami.

¹³I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

¹³Zapovedujem ti pred Bogom, ki vse oživlja, in Kristusom Jezusom, ki je izpričal pred Poncijem Pilatom lepo izpoved,

¹⁴That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹⁵Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

¹⁶Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

¹⁶ki ima sam neumrjočnost in biva v nedostopni svetlobi, ki ga ni videl ljudi nobeden in ga tudi videti ne more; njemu čast in moč večna! Amen.

¹⁷Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

¹⁷Bogatinom v sedanjem svetu zapoveduj, naj se ne prevzemajo, niti ne stavijo upa v bogastva negotovost, ampak v živega Boga, ki nam deli vsega obilo za uživanje;

¹⁸That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

¹⁸naj dobro delajo, bogaté v dobrih delih, naj bodo radodarni, sočutni,

¹⁹Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

¹⁹nabirajoč si zaklade v dobro podstavo za prihodnost, da se poprimejo resničnega življenja.

²⁰O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

²⁰O Timotej, hrani to, kar ti je poverjeno, ogibajoč se posvetnega govoričenja in nasprotij znanosti, ki se po krivem tako imenuje;katero si pripisujoč, so nekateri zgrešili vero. Milost bodi z vami!
