¹Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

¹V osemnajstem letu kralja Jeroboama je Abija zavladal Judi.

²He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

²Tri leta je vladal v Jeruzalemu. Materi njegovi pa je bilo ime Mikaja, hči Uriela iz Gibea. In bila je vojna med Abijem in Jeroboamom.

³And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valor.

³In Abija je šel na boj z armado hrabrih vojščakov, štiristo tisoč izbranih mož; Jeroboam pa se razvrsti v boj zoper njega z osemsto tisoč izbranimi možmi, hrabrimi junaki.

⁴And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;

⁴In Abija stopi na goro Zemaraim v Efraimskem gorovju in reče: Poslušajte me, Jeroboam in ves Izrael!

⁵Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

⁵Ne veste li, da je GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov, dal kraljestvo nad Izraelom Davidu na vekomaj, njemu in sinom njegovim po solni zavezi?

⁶Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.

⁶Ali Jeroboam, sin Nebatov, hlapec Salomona, sinu Davidovega, je vstal in se uprl gospodu svojemu.

⁷And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

⁷In zbrali so se pri njem praznoglavi ljudje, otroci Belijalovi, ki so se ohrabrili zoper Roboama, sina Salomonovega, ko je bil Roboam še mlad in plahega srca in se jim ni mogel ubraniti.

⁸And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with your golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.

⁸Vi pa sedaj mislite, da se morete postaviti zoper GOSPODOVO kraljestvo, ki je v roki sinov Davidovih, ker vas je velika množica in imate pri sebi zlati teleti, ki vam ju je naredil Jeroboam za bogove?

⁹Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.

⁹Niste li pregnali duhovnikov GOSPODOVIH, sinov Aronovih in levitov, in niste si li postavili duhovnikov po načinu ljudstev v drugih deželah? Kdorkoli pride, da se posveti z mladim juncem in sedmimi ovni, postane duhovnik tistim, ki niso bogovi!

¹⁰But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:

¹⁰Toda z nami je GOSPOD, naš Bog, ki ga nismo zapustili, in imamo duhovnike, ki strežejo GOSPODU, sinove Aronove in levite v svojem opravilu;

¹¹And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.

¹¹ti zažigajo GOSPODU vsako jutro in vsak večer žgalne daritve in sladkodišeče kadilo in skrbe za razvrstitev kruhov na čisti mizi ter za zlati svečnik ž njegovimi svetilnicami, da se prižigajo vsak večer; kajti mi opravljamo stražo GOSPODA, svojega Boga, vi pa ste ga zapustili.

¹²And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

¹²In glejte, Bog je z nami, nam na čelu, in duhovniki njegovi z donečimi trobentami, da bučno trobentajo zoper vas. O Izraelovi otroci, ne bojujte se zoper GOSPODA, svojih očetov Boga, ker ne boste imeli sreče!

¹³But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.

¹³Ali Jeroboam je velel zasedi, naj po ovinkih pridejo nadnje odzadaj; tako je stal on pred Judovimi, in zaseda je bila za njimi.

¹⁴And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

¹⁴In ko so se Judovi ozrli, glej, boj jim je bil spredaj in zadaj! In vpijejo h GOSPODU, in duhovniki so močno trobili na doneče trobente.

¹⁵Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

¹⁵In možje Judovi zaženo bojni krik, in ko so Judovi kričali, je Bog porazil Jeroboama in vsega Izraela pred Abijem in Judovimi.

¹⁶And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.

¹⁶In sinovi Izraelovi zbeže pred Judovimi, in Bog je dal nje v njih roke.

¹⁷And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁷In Abija in ljudstvo njegovo jim je prizadelo velik poraz, da je padlo ubitih v Izraelu petsto tisoč izbranih mož.

¹⁸Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.

¹⁸Tako so bili tisti čas Izraelovi sinovi ponižani, a sinovi Judovi so se ojačili, ker so se opirali na GOSPODA, Boga očetov svojih.

¹⁹And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephraim with the towns thereof.

¹⁹In podil je Abija bežečega Jeroboama in mu je vzel mesta: Betel in njemu podložne vasi, Ješano in njej podložne vasi ter Efron in njegove vasi.

²⁰Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.

²⁰Tudi si ni opomogel Jeroboam nič več v dnevih Abijevih; in GOSPOD ga je udaril, da je umrl.

²¹But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
