¹So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

¹In Abija je legel k očetom svojim, in pokopali so ga v mestu Davidovem; in Asa, sin njegov, je zakraljeval na mestu njegovem. V dnevih njegovih je imela dežela mir deset let.

²And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

²In Asa je delal, kar je bilo dobro in pravično v očeh GOSPODA, njegovega Boga;

³For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

³kajti odpravil je tuje oltarje in višave in je strl stebre in posekal Ašere.

⁴And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

⁴In ukazal je Judi, naj išče GOSPODA, Boga očetov svojih, in izpolnjuje postavo in zapoved.

⁵Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

⁵Odpravil je tudi iz vseh mest Judovih višave in solnčne podobe. In kraljevina je imela mir pod njim.

⁶And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

⁶In sezidal je utrjena mesta na Judovem, kajti dežela je imela mir in ni bilo vojne zoper njega v tistih letih, ker mu je GOSPOD dal pokoj.

⁷Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

⁷Velel je namreč Judi: Zgradimo ta mesta in napravimo zidove okoli njih in stolpe, vrata in zapahe! Dežela je še pred nami, kajti iskali smo GOSPODA, svojega Boga, iskali smo ga, in dal nam je pokoj naokoli. Nato so zidali, in šlo jim je po sreči.

⁸And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.

⁸In Asa je imel vojake, ki so nosili ščite in sulice, iz Jude tristo tisoč, iz Benjamina pa, ki so nosili ščite in z loka streljali, dvesto in osemdeset tisoč; ti so vsi bili vrli junaki.

⁹And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

⁹Prišel je pa nadnje Zerah, Etiopec, z vojsko tisočkrat tisoč mož in tristo voz; in prišel je do Marese.

¹⁰Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

¹⁰Tedaj mu pride Asa nasproti, in pripravijo se na boj v dolini Zefati pri Maresi.

¹¹And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.

¹¹In Asa vpije h GOSPODU, Bogu svojemu, in reče: GOSPOD, pri tebi ni razločka pomagati, kjer je veliko ali kjer nobene ni moči. Pomagaj nam, o GOSPOD, Bog naš! zakaj na tebe se opiramo in v tvojem imenu smo prišli zoper to množico. Ti, GOSPOD, si naš Bog; zoper tebe noben smrtnik ne premore ničesar!

¹²So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

¹²In GOSPOD je udaril Etiopce pred Asom in pred Judo; in Etiopci so zbežali.

¹³And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

¹³Asa pa in ljudstvo, ki je bilo pri njem, jih je zasledovalo do Gerarja, in padlo jih je iz Etiopcev toliko, da se niso mogli okrepiti, kajti strti so bili pred GOSPODOM in pred njegovo vojsko. In Judovi so odnesli silno veliko plena.

¹⁴And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

¹⁴In udarili so vsa mesta okoli Gerarja, kajti strah Božji jih je obšel; in oplenili so vsa mesta, ker je bilo veliko plena v njih.Vdrli so tudi v ovčje staje in odvedli veliko ovac in velblodov ter so se vrnili v Jeruzalem.

¹⁵They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
