¹Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹Ker imamo torej te obljube, ljubljeni, očistimo se vsakega madeža mesa in duha ter dopolnjujmo svetost v strahu Božjem!

²Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

²Dajte nam mesta v srcu! Nikomur nismo storili krivice, nikogar nismo popačili, nikogar nismo prekanili.

³I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

³Ne govorim tega v vašo obsodbo; saj sem poprej rekel, da ste v srcih naših, da bi radi z vami vred umrli in vkup živeli.

⁴Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

⁴Velika je moja zaupljivost v govoru do vas, velika moja hvala o vas; napolnjen sem tolažbe, preobilo imam radosti ob vsej stiski naši.

⁵For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

⁵Kajti tudi ko smo prišli v Macedonijo, ni imelo nič počitka meso naše, temuč z vseh strani smo bili stiskani: zunaj so bili boji, znotraj strah in bojazen.

⁶Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

⁶Ali Bog, ki tolaži ponižne, nas je potolažil s prihodom Titovim;

⁷And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

⁷toda ne samo s prihodom njegovim, ampak tudi s tolažbo, s katero se je on potolažil nad vami. Ko nam je pripovedoval vaše hrepenenje, vaš jok, vašo vnetost za mene, sem se tem bolj obveselil.

⁸For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

⁸Zakaj čeprav sem vas razžalostil z listom, ni mi žal, dasi mi je žal bilo; vidim namreč, da vas je oni list res razžalostil, čeprav začasno.

⁹Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

⁹Sedaj se radujem, ne da ste se razžalostili, temuč da ste se razžalostili na izpokorjenje; razžalostili ste se namreč Bogu po volji, da bi v ničemer ne imeli škode od nas.

¹⁰For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

¹⁰Kajti žalost, ki je po volji Bogu, rodi izpokorjenje na zveličanje, ki se ga nikdar ni kesati; a žalost sveta rodi smrt.

¹¹For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

¹¹Zakaj glejte, prav to, da ste se po volji Bogu razžalostili, kolikšno vam je obrodilo marljivost, pa zagovarjanje, pa nevoljo, pa strah, pa hrepenenje, pa gorečnost, pa maščevanje! V vsem ste se pokazali, da ste čisti v tej zadevi.

¹²Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

¹²Torej čeprav sem vam pisal, sem pisal ne za voljo tistega, ki je storil krivico, tudi ne za voljo tistega, ki se mu je krivica storila, marveč da se pri vas pokaže marljivost vaša za nas v pričo Boga.

¹³Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

¹³Zato smo bili potolaženi. V svoji tolažbi pa smo se še obilneje obveselili vsled radosti Titove, ker njegov duh je bil poživljen po vas vseh.

¹⁴For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

¹⁴Ker ako sem se v čem njemu pohvalil z vami, nisem osramočen; ampak kakor smo vam vse v resnici govorili, tako se je tudi pohvala naša proti Titu izkazala resnična.

¹⁵And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

¹⁵In srce njegovo vam je še bolj vdano, ko se spominja poslušnosti vseh vas, kako ste ga s strahom in trepetom sprejeli.Vesel sem torej, da se smem v vsem zanašati na vas.

¹⁶I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.
