¹And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.

¹Ko je bilo pa sklenjeno, da se imamo po morju odpeljati v Italijo, so izročili Pavla in nekaj drugih jetnikov stotniku, po imenu Juliju, od cesarske trume.

²And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

²In stopivši na ladjo iz Adramita, ki je bila namenjena v primorska mesta v Aziji, smo odrinili, in z nami je bil Aristarh, Macedonec iz Soluna.

³And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

³In drugi dan smo prišli v Sidon. In Julij je priljudno ravnal s Pavlom in mu je dovolil iti k prijateljem in si dati postreči.

⁴And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

⁴In ko smo odrinili odtod, smo se peljali za Ciprom, ker so nam bili vetrovi nasprotni.

⁵And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

⁵In ko smo prepluli morje, ki je poleg Cilicije in Pamfilije, smo pripli v Miro v Liciji.

⁶And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.

⁶In tu je našel stotnik ladjo iz Aleksandrije, ki je jadrala v Italijo, in nas je prestavil nanjo.

⁷And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

⁷Ko smo se bili po mnogo dni počasi vozili in dospeli s težavo proti Knidu, kjer nam je veter branil pristati, smo pluli pod Kreto proti Salmoni.

⁸And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

⁸In le s težavo se vozeč mimo nje, smo prišli v neki kraj, ki se imenuje Dobro pristanišče, blizu katerega je bilo mesto Laseja.

⁹Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

⁹Ko je bilo pa veliko časa prešlo in je bila vožnja že nevarna, ker je že tudi post minil, jih je Pavel opominjal

¹⁰And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

¹⁰in jim dejal: Možje, vidim, da hoče vožnja biti huda in silno nevarna ne le za blago in ladjo, ampak tudi za življenje naše.

¹¹Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

¹¹Ali stotnik je bolj verjel krmarju in gospodarju ladje nego temu, kar je pravil Pavel.

¹²And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

¹²In ker pristanišče ni bilo pripravno za zimovanje, so sklenili skoro vsi, odpeljati se odtod, ne bi li kako mogli dospeti do Fenike, ki je pristanišče na Kreti in leži proti jugu in zahodnemu severu, in tam prezimovati.

¹³And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

¹³Ko je pa potegnil jug, so odrinili, misleč, da dosežejo svoj namen, in so se peljali ob Kreti, bližje obrežja.

¹⁴But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

¹⁴Toda nedolgo potem zaveje od otoka hud veter, ki se imenuje vzhodni sever.

¹⁵And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

¹⁵Ko je pa zgrabilo ladjo in se ni mogla vetru upirati, smo jo izročili valovom, in nosili so nas.

¹⁶And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

¹⁶Ko nas pa je zaneslo pod neki otočič, po imenu Kavda, smo komaj mogli obdržati čolnič.

¹⁷Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

¹⁷In ko so ga vzdignili, so se poslužili pripomočkov in so ovili ladjo; in boječ se, da ne bi zadeli na kleče, so spustili jadra in so se tako peljali.

¹⁸And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

¹⁸In ker nas je vihar hudo metal, so drugi dan začeli izmetavati blago,

¹⁹And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

¹⁹in tretji dan so s svojimi rokami izmetali ladijno opravo.

²⁰And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

²⁰Ko se pa ne solnce, ne zvezde niso pokazale več dni in je silna burja na nas pritiskala, je že izginilo vse upanje, da bi se oteli.

²¹But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

²¹In ko že dolgo časa niso jedli, tedaj reče Pavel, stoječ sredi njih: Poslušali bi me bili, o možje, in ne odrinili od Krete in tako se obvarovali te nadloge in izgube.

²²And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

²²In sedaj vas opominjam, da bodite srčni: zakaj izgube ne bo nobenega življenja med vami, razen le ladje.

²³For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

²³Stal mi je namreč ob strani to noč angel Boga, čigar sem in ki mu služim,

²⁴Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

²⁴rekoč: Ne boj se, Pavel! pred cesarja moraš stopiti; in glej, Bog ti je podaril vse, kar se jih pelje s teboj.

²⁵Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

²⁵Zatorej bodite srčni, možje! Kajti verujem Bogu, da se res tako zgodi, kakor mi je bilo rečeno.

²⁶Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

²⁶Moramo se pa nameriti na neki otok.

²⁷But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

²⁷Ko je pa štirinajsta noč prišla in so nas valovi semterja gnali po Jadranskem morju, se je zdelo mornarjem okoli polnoči, da se bližajo neki zemlji.

²⁸And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

²⁸In izmerivši globočino, najdejo dvajset sežnjev; in ko pridejo malo dalje in izmerijo globočino, najdejo petnajst sežnjev.

²⁹Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

²⁹In boječ se, da ne bi naleteli na skalnata mesta, so vrgli s krme štiri mačke in so želeli, da bi se dan naredil.

³⁰And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

³⁰Ko so pa mornarji skušali pobegniti z ladje in so spustili čolnič v morje z izgovorom, da hočejo s prednjega konca mačke vreči,

³¹Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

³¹reče Pavel stotniku in vojakom: Ako ti ne ostanejo na ladji, se vi ne morete oteti.

³²Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

³²Tedaj odsekajo vojaki vrvi čolniču in ga spuste, da je odplul.

³³And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

³³Dokler bi se pa začelo daniti, prosi Pavel vse, naj vzemo jedi, rekoč: Štirinajsti dan je danes, kar čakate in ste brez jedi, ne uživši ničesar.

³⁴Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

³⁴Zato vas prosim, vzemite jedi, zakaj to je za vašo ohranitev. Nikomur od vas namreč se ne pogubi las z glave.

³⁵And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

³⁵In rekši to, vzame kruh in zahvali Boga pred vsemi, ter ga prelomi in začne jesti.

³⁶Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

³⁶Tedaj postanejo vsi srčnejši in vzemo tudi oni jedi.

³⁷And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

³⁷Bilo nas je pa vseh na ladji dvesto in šestinsedemdeset duš.

³⁸And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

³⁸In ko so se dositega najedli, so olajšali ladjo, izmetavši žito v morje.

³⁹And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

³⁹Ko se je pa zdanilo, niso poznali dežele; ugledajo pa neki zaliv, da ima raven breg, in nanj so mislili, ko bilo mogoče, izvleči ladjo.

⁴⁰And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

⁴⁰In odsekajo mačke in jih puste v morju, obenem pa odvežejo vrvi pri krmilih; in razpno prednje jadro po vetru ter se peljejo proti bregu.

⁴¹And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

⁴¹Ko pa jih je zagnalo na kraj, ki je imel po obeh straneh morje, so zadeli z ladjo ob tla; in prednji konec se je zasadil in trdno obtičal, a krma se je razbijala od sile valovja.

⁴²And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

⁴²Vojakov naklep pa je bil, da pomoré jetnike, da ne bi kdo odplaval in pobegnil.

⁴³But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

⁴³Toda stotnik hoteč ohraniti Pavla, prepreči njih naklep in ukaže, naj tisti, ki znajo plavati, najprej skočijo v vodo in se spravijo na suho,drugi pa nekateri na deskah, a nekateri na kosovih od ladje. In tako se je zgodilo, da so se vsi rešili na suho.

⁴⁴And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
