¹And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

¹In ko smo se bili oteli, smo spoznali, da se otok imenuje Melita.

²And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

²Divjaki pa so nam izkazovali ne majhno ljudomilost: zažgali so namreč grmado in sprejeli so nas vse zavoljo dežja, ki je šel, in zavoljo mraza.

³And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

³Ko pa nabere Pavel kup hoste in jo dene na ogenj, se priplazi gad vsled vročine in se mu obesi na roko.

⁴And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

⁴Ko pa vidijo divjaki, da mu visi zver na roki, govore med seboj: Gotovo je ta človek ubijalec, ki ga, otetega iz morja, pravica maščevalka ne pusti živeti.

⁵And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

⁵Toda on otrese zver na ogenj, in nič hudega se mu ni zgodilo.

⁶Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

⁶Oni so pa čakali, da oteče ali se hkratu zgrudi in umre. Ko so pa dolgo čakali in videli, da se mu nič hudega ne zgodi, so premenili svoje misli in so dejali, da je bog.

⁷In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

⁷Okoli tega kraja pa so bile pristave poglavarja otoka, Publija po imenu, ki nas je sprejel in tri dni prijazno gostil.

⁸And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

⁸Zgodi se pa, da je oče Publijev ležal bolan za mrzlico in grižo: k temu gre Pavel in moleč položi nanj roke in ga ozdravi.

⁹So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

⁹In ko se je to zgodilo, so prihajali z otoka tudi drugi, ki so imeli bolezni, in so bili ozdravljeni.

¹⁰Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

¹⁰Ti so nam tudi izkazovali mnogotere časti, in ko smo odhajali, so nam naložili, kar je bilo potreba.

¹¹And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

¹¹A po treh mesecih smo se odpeljali na aleksandrijski ladji, ki je bila prezimila na otoku in je imela znamenje Dvojčkov.

¹²And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

¹²In pripeljali smo se v Sirakuz in ostali tu tri dni.

¹³And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

¹³Odtod smo se okoli peljali in dospeli v Regijo, in ko je en dan potem potegnil jug, smo prišli drugi dan v Puteole.

¹⁴Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

¹⁴Tu smo našli bratov, in prosili so nas, naj bi pri njih prebili sedem dni; in tako smo prišli v Rim.

¹⁵And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

¹⁵In odtod, ko so bratje slišali za nas, so nam prišli naproti do Apijevega trga in do Treh krčem; in ko jih je videl Pavel, je zahvalil Boga in se napolnil zaupanja.

¹⁶And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

¹⁶Ko smo pa prišli v Rim, [je izročil stotnik jetnike poveljniku cesarske straže, a] Pavlu se je dovolilo prebivati, kjer sam hoče, z vojakom, ki ga je varoval.

¹⁷And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

¹⁷Zgodi se pa po treh dneh, da skliče Pavel prvake Judov. In ko so se sešli, jim je rekel: Možje bratje! dasi jaz ničesar nisem storil zoper naše ljudstvo ali šege očetovske, vendar so me zvezanega iz Jeruzalema izdali v roke Rimljanom.

¹⁸Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

¹⁸Ti so me, ko so me bili zaslišali, hoteli izpustiti, zato ker ni bilo nobene smrtne krivice na meni.

¹⁹But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

¹⁹Ko so pa Judje ugovarjali, sem bil prisiljen, sklicati se na cesarja, ne kakor da bi imel narod svoj za kaj tožiti.

²⁰For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

²⁰Zavoljo tega razloga torej sem vas poklical, da bi vas videl in z vami govoril; zakaj zaradi upanja Izraelovega sem vkovan v to verigo.

²¹And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

²¹Oni mu pa reko: Mi nismo ne pisem zastran tebe prejeli iz Judeje in tudi nobeden izmed bratov ni prišel, da bi sporočil ali govoril kaj hudega o tebi.

²²But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

²²Želimo pa slišati od tebe, kaj misliš; kajti za to ločino nam je znano, da ji povsod ugovarjajo.

²³And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

²³In ko so mu odločili dan, jih je mnogo prišlo k njemu v stanovanje; in jim je razlagal vse ter pričeval o kraljestvu Božjem in jim služil k veri v to, kar se tiče Jezusa, iz postave Mojzesove in prorokov, od zore do mraka.

²⁴And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

²⁴In nekateri so verovali temu, kar jim je pravil, a nekateri niso verovali.

²⁵And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

²⁵In ker niso bili složni med seboj, so odhajali, ko je rekel Pavel to eno besedo: Dobro je povedal sveti Duh po Izaiju proroku očetom vašim,

²⁶Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

²⁶rekoč: „Pojdi k temu ljudstvu in reci: S sluhom boste slišali, a ne boste umeli, in z očmi boste gledali, a ne boste videli.

²⁷For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

²⁷Kajti okamenelo je srce temu ljudstvu, in z ušesi težko slišijo, in oči so si zatisnili: da ne bi kako z očmi videli in z ušesi slišali in s srcem umeli in se spreobrnili, ter bi jih ozdravil“.

²⁸Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

²⁸Bodi vam torej znano, da je poganom poslano to zveličanje Božje; oni bodo tudi poslušali. [

²⁹And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

²⁹In ko je to povedal, so odšli Judje, in so imeli mnogo prepira med seboj.]

³⁰And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

³⁰On pa je ostal celi dve leti v svojem najetem stanovanju in je sprejemal vse, ki so k njemu prihajali,oznanjujoč kraljestvo Božje in učeč to, kar je Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa, z vso srčnostjo, in nihče mu ni branil.

³¹Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
