¹For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

¹Hočem namreč, da veste, kako hud boj imam za vas in zanje, ki so v Laodiceji, in za vse, ki niso videli obličja mojega v mesu,

²That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

²da prejmejo njih srca tolažbo, da so združeni v ljubezni in za vse bogastvo popolnega prepričanja razuma, da prav spoznajo skrivnost Božjo, Kristusa,

³In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

³v katerem so skriti vsi zakladi modrosti in spoznanja.

⁴And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

⁴To pa pravim, da vas nihče ne prevara z dozdevno pametnimi besedami.

⁵For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

⁵Kajti čeprav sem po mesu daleč, v duhu sem vendar z vami, radujoč se in gledajoč vašo rednost in trdnost vere vaše v Kristusa.

⁶As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

⁶Kakor ste torej sprejeli Kristusa Jezusa, Gospoda, tako živite v njem,

⁷Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

⁷ukoreninjeni in sezidani v njem in utrjeni v veri, kakor ste bili poučeni, in bodite po njej obilni v zahvaljevanju.

⁸Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

⁸Pazite, da vas kdo ne upleni z modrijanstvom in prazno prevaro, po izročilu človeškem, po začetnih naukih sveta in ne po Kristusu;

⁹For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

⁹ker v njem prebiva vsa polnost božanstva telesno

¹⁰And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

¹⁰in v njem ste dopolnjeni, ki je glava vsakega gospodstva in vsake oblasti;

¹¹In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

¹¹ki ste bili v njem tudi obrezani z obrezo, ne storjeno z rokami, ko ste slekli telo mesa, z obrezo Kristusovo,

¹²Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

¹²pokopani ž njim vred v krstu, v katerem ste tudi vstali ž njim od smrti po veri v delovanje Boga, ki ga je obudil izmed mrtvih.

¹³And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

¹³In vas, ki ste bili mrtvi v grehih in neobrezi mesa svojega, tudi vas je oživil ž njim vred, ko nam je odpustil vse grehe,

¹⁴Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

¹⁴in izbrisal rokopis zoper nas, ki nam je bil po poveljih nasproten, in ga je odpravil, pribivši ga z žeblji na križ,

¹⁵And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

¹⁵in je razorožil poglavarstva in oblasti in jih postavil očitno na ogled in slavil zmago nad njimi v njem.

¹⁶Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

¹⁶Naj vas torej ne sodi kdo v jedi ali pijači, ali glede praznika ali mlaja ali sobote;

¹⁷Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

¹⁷to vse je senca prihodnjih reči, telo pa je Kristusovo.

¹⁸Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

¹⁸Nihče naj vas ne pripravi ob zmagovalcev plačilo s tem, da svoji volji ugaja v ponižnosti in češčenju angelov, ko se peča s tem, česar ni videl, ker ga za nič napihuje mišljenje mesa njegovega,

¹⁹And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

¹⁹in ker se ne drži Glave, iz katere raste vse telo, po členovju in vezeh podpirano in zvezano, v rasti Božji.

²⁰Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

²⁰Če ste torej umrli s Kristusom začetnim naukom sveta, zakaj se, kakor da bi še v svetu živeli, pokorite poveljem:

²¹(Touch not; taste not; handle not;

²¹„Ne dotakni se, in ne pokusi, in ne potipaj!“

²²Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

²²(kar je vse v pogubo določeno po rabi) po zapovedih in naukih človeških?To ima sicer videz modrosti v svojevoljni službi Božji in ponižnosti in neprizanesljivosti proti telesu, a nima nič vrednosti in služi le v zadovoljitev mesa.

²³Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

²³To ima sicer videz modrosti v svojevoljni službi Božji in ponižnosti in neprizanesljivosti proti telesu, a nima nič vrednosti in služi le v zadovoljitev mesa.
