¹Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

²Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

²Bogastvo vaše je strohnelo in oblačila vaša so snedli molji.

³Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

³Zlato vaše in srebro je zarjavelo, in njiju rja bode v pričanje zoper vas in bo žrla meso vaše kakor ogenj. Zaklade ste si nabrali v zadnjih dneh!

⁴Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

⁴Glejte, plačilo delavcev, ki so poželi polje vaše, pa ste ga jim utrgali, kriči; in vpitje ženjcev je prišlo do ušes Gospoda nad vojskami.

⁵Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

⁵V požrešnosti ste na zemlji živeli in razkošnosti; srca svoja ste redili v dan klanja.

⁶Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

⁶Obsodili, umorili ste pravičnega, ne ustavlja se vam.

⁷Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

⁷Bodite torej potrpežljivi, bratje, do prihoda Gospodovega. Glejte, orač pričakuje dragega sadu zemlje, potrpežljiv zanj, dokler ne dobi zgodnjega in poznega dežja.

⁸Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

⁸Bodite potrpežljivi tudi vi; pokrepčajte srca svoja, ker prihod Gospodov se je približal.

⁹Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

⁹Ne zdihujte drug zoper drugega, bratje, da ne boste sojeni; glejte, sodnik stoji pred vrati.

¹⁰Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

¹⁰Za zgled trpljenja in potrpežljivosti vzemite, bratje, proroke, ki so govorili v imenu Gospodovem.

¹¹Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

¹¹Glejte, blagrujemo tiste, ki so bili stanovitni v trpljenju. O stanovitnosti Jobovi ste čuli in konec Gospodov ste videli; kajti bogat v usmiljenju je Gospod in milosrčen.

¹²But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

¹²Predvsem pa, bratje moji, ne prisegajte, ne pri nebu, ne pri zemlji, ne kake druge prisege; vaš ‚da‘ pa bodi ‚da‘ in ‚ne‘ bodi ‚ne‘, da ne zapadete sodbi.

¹³Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

¹³Trpi li kdo med vami, naj moli. Je li kdo dobre volje, naj prepeva hvalnice.

¹⁴Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

¹⁴Je li kdo bolan med vami, naj pokliče k sebi starejšine cerkve, in molijo naj nad njim ter ga mazilijo z oljem v imenu Gospodovem.

¹⁵And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

¹⁵In molitev vere bo pomagala bolniku, in Gospod ga ozdravi; in ako je storil grehe, mu bo odpuščeno.

¹⁶Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

¹⁶Izpovedujte torej drug drugemu grehe in molite drug za drugega, da ozdravite. Mnogo zmore goreča molitev pravičnega.

¹⁷Elija je bil človek, podvržen enakim slabostim kakor mi, in v molitvi je molil, naj ne dežuje, in deževalo ni na zemlji tri leta in šest mesecev.

¹⁸And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

¹⁸In zopet je molil, in nebo je dalo dežja in zemlja je rodila sad svoj.

¹⁹Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

¹⁹Bratje moji, ako kdo izmed vas zabrede od resnice in ga kdo nazaj pripelje,vedi, da kdor nazaj pripelje grešnika s krive poti njegove, reši dušo njegovo iz smrti in pokrije množico grehov.

²⁰Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
