¹The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

¹Beseda, ki je prišla Jeremiju od GOSPODA, govoreč:

²Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

²Vstani in pojdi doli v hišo lončarjevo, in tam storim, da boš slišal besede moje.

³Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

³Šel sem torej doli v hišo lončarjevo, in glej opravljal je delo svoje na kolovratu.

⁴And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

⁴In posoda, ki jo je narejal iz ilovice, se je skazila v roki lončarjevi; in naredil je zopet iz nje drugo posodo, kakor se mu je prav zdelo narediti.

⁵Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

⁵Tedaj mi je prišla beseda GOSPODOVA, rekoč:

⁶O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

⁶Ali bi vam ne mogel storiti kakor ta lončar, o hiša Izraelova? govori GOSPOD; glej, kakor ilovica v roki lončarjevi, tako ste vi, o hiša Izraelova, v roki moji.

⁷At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;

⁷Kadar govorim zoper kateri narod in zoper kraljestvo, da ga hočem iztrebiti in podreti in pogubiti,

⁸If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

⁸pa se obrne tisti narod, ki sem zoper njega govoril, od hudobnosti svoje, tedaj mi bode žal zla, ki sem mu ga mislil storiti.

⁹And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

⁹Kadar pa govorim o narodu in kraljestvu, da bom zidal in sadil,

¹⁰If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

¹⁰pa stori, kar je hudo v mojih očeh, ne poslušaje glasu mojega, žal mi bode dobrot, ki sem ž njimi ga menil oblagodariti.

¹¹Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

¹¹Zdaj torej ogovóri može Judove in prebivalce jeruzalemske, rekoč: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Glejte, jaz snujem zoper vas nesrečo in naklep mislim zoper vas; povrnite se vendar vsak s hudobnega pota svojega in dobra naredite pota svoja in dejanja svoja.

¹²And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

¹²Pravijo pa: Zaman je; kajti po mislih svojih hočemo hoditi in vsak delati po trmi hudobnega srca svojega.

¹³Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.

¹³Zatorej pravi tako GOSPOD: Poprašujte le med narodi, kdo je slišal kaj takega? Devica Izraelova je storila prav grdo stvar.

¹⁴Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?

¹⁴Ali zapusti sneg na Libanonu skalo na planjavi? Se li morejo posušiti mrzle vode, oddaleč šumljajoče?

¹⁵Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;

¹⁵Kajti pozabilo je mene ljudstvo moje; ničemurnim malikom je kadilo, in ti so storili, da se je spoteknilo na potih svojih, stezah starodavnih, da hodi po drugih hodnikih, po potu neuglajenem,

¹⁶To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.

¹⁶da napravi deželo svojo v stvar strmenju, vednemu zasmehovanju; kdorkoli pojde skozi njo, naj strmi in maje z glavo.

¹⁷I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

¹⁷Kakor z jutrovim vetrom jih razkropim pred sovražnikom; s hrbtom, ne pa z obličjem se bom oziral vanje v času njih nesreče.

¹⁸Then said they, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

¹⁸Tedaj so pravili: Dejte, zmislimo naklepe zoper Jeremija; kajti postava ne pogine od duhovnika in svet od modrega in beseda od proroka; dejte, udarimo ga z jezikom in ne poslušajmo nobenih besed njegovih.

¹⁹Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.

¹⁹Ozri se name, GOSPOD, in čuj glas prepirajočih se z menoj.

²⁰Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.

²⁰Ali naj se vrača za dobro slabo? kajti izkopali so jamo za dušo mojo. Spomni se, da sem stal pred teboj, da bi dobro govoril zanje, da bi odvrnil od njih tvoj srd.

²¹Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

²¹Zato izpostavi njih sinove lakoti in izroči jih oblasti meča; in njih žene naj bodo brez otrok in vdove in njih možje naj umrjo pobiti; njih mladeniče naj meč zadene v boju.

²²Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

²²Sliši naj se vpitje iz njih hiš, ko boš naglo pripeljal zoper nje krdelo, ker so kopali jamo, da bi me ujeli, in so zanke skrivaj stavili mojim nogam.Ti pa, GOSPOD, poznaš ves njih naklep meni v smrt; ne očisti njih krivice in njih greha ne izbriši izpred svojega obličja; temuč pahnejo se naj v spotiko pred tvojimi očmi, v času jeze svoje ravnaj zoper nje.

²³Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.

²³Ti pa, GOSPOD, poznaš ves njih naklep meni v smrt; ne očisti njih krivice in njih greha ne izbriši izpred svojega obličja; temuč pahnejo se naj v spotiko pred tvojimi očmi, v času jeze svoje ravnaj zoper nje.
