¹Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;

¹Tako pravi Gospod: Pojdi kupit lončen vrč od lončarja ter vzemi s seboj starejšin ljudstva in starejšin duhovnikov;

²And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,

²in pojdi ven iz mesta v dolino sinú Hinomovega, ki je pred vhodom Čepinjskih vrat, ter oznanjaj tam besede, ki ti jih bom rekel,

³And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

³in reci: Poslušajte besedo GOSPODOVO, kralji Judovi in prebivalci jeruzalemski! Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz pripeljem nesrečo nad ta kraj; kdorkoli jo bo slišal, mu bo zvenelo po ušesih.

⁴Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

⁴Zato ker so me zapustili in so tuj storili ta kraj, ker so na njem kadili tujim bogovom, ki jih niso poznali ne oni, ne njih očetje in kralji Judovi, in so napolnili ta kraj s krvjo nedolžnih;

⁵They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

⁵in so sezidali višave Baalu, da bi z ognjem žgali otroke svoje v žgalne daritve Baalu, česar nisem bil zapovedal in ne govoril in kar mi ni prišlo na misel:

⁶Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.

⁶zato, glej, pridejo dnevi, govori GOSPOD, ko se ta kraj ne bo več imenoval Tofet ali dolina sinú Hinomovega, ampak Dolina moritve.

⁷And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

⁷In prazen naredim sklep Judov in Jeruzalemov na tem kraju in storim, da se zgrudijo od meča pred sovražniki svojimi in pod pestjo njih, ki jim strežejo po življenju; in njih trupla dam za jed pticam nebeškim in zverem zemeljskim.

⁸And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

⁸In to mesto postavim za stvar strmenju in zasmehovanju; kdorkoli pojde mimo njega, bo strmel in žvižgal zavoljo vseh šib njegovih.

⁹And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.

⁹In storim, da bodo jedli meso sinov svojih in hčer svojih meso, in vsak bo jedel prijatelja svojega meso, v obleganju in stiski, s katero jih bodo stiskali njih sovražniki in oni, ki jim strežejo po življenju.

¹⁰Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

¹⁰Nato stareš tisti vrč pred očmi mož, ki pojdejo s teboj,

¹¹And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.

¹¹in jim porečeš: Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami: Tako starem to ljudstvo in to mesto, kakor kdor stare lončarjevo posodo, ki se ne more več popraviti. In v Tofetu se bodo pokopavali, ker ne bode nobenega drugega kraja za pokopavanje.

¹²Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:

¹²Tako storim temu kraju in njegovim prebivalcem, govori GOSPOD, in to mesto naredim podobno Tofetu.

¹³And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.

¹³In hiše jeruzalemske in hiše kraljev Judovih bodo kakor kraj Tofetov vse nesnažne: vse tiste hiše, na katerih strehah so kadili vsej vojski nebes in pitne daritve darovali tujim bogovom.

¹⁴Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD's house; and said to all the people,

¹⁴Nato se vrne Jeremija iz Tofeta, kamor ga je bil poslal GOSPOD prorokovat, in stopi v vežo hišo GOSPODOVE ter reče vsemu ljudstvu:Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz pripeljem zoper to mesto in zoper vsa mesta njegova vso tisto nesrečo, ki sem jo izgovoril zoper njega, ker so postali trdovratni, da niso poslušali mojih besed.

¹⁵Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

¹⁵Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz pripeljem zoper to mesto in zoper vsa mesta njegova vso tisto nesrečo, ki sem jo izgovoril zoper njega, ker so postali trdovratni, da niso poslušali mojih besed.
