¹When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

¹Rekši to, gre Jezus z učenci svojimi iz mesta čez potok Cedron, kjer je bil vrt, in nanj krenejo on in učenci njegovi.

²And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

²Vedel je pa tudi Juda, njegov izdajalec, o tem kraju, ker je pogostoma Jezus tja zahajal z učenci svojimi.

³Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

³Juda torej vzame trumo in služabnike od višjih duhovnikov in farizejev in pride tja s svetilnicami in baklami in orožjem.

⁴Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

⁴Jezus pa, ker je vedel vse, kaj nad njega pride, jim gre naproti in reče: Koga iščete?

⁵They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

⁵Odgovore mu: Jezusa Nazarečana. Jezus jim reče: Jaz sem. Stal je pa ž njimi tudi Juda, izdajalec njegov.

⁶As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

⁶Ko jim je torej rekel: Jaz sem, stopijo nazaj in padejo na tla.

⁷Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

⁷Vpraša jih torej zopet: Koga iščete? Oni pa reko: Jezusa Nazarečana.

⁸Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:

⁸Jezus odgovori: Rekel sem vam, da sem jaz. Če torej mene iščete, pustite, da ti odidejo.

⁹That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.

⁹Da se izpolni beseda, ki jo je bil rekel: Nobenega nisem izgubil izmed teh, ki si mi jih dal.

¹⁰Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

¹⁰A Simon Peter je imel meč; izdere ga torej in udari hlapca velikega duhovnika in mu odseka desno uho. Hlapcu pa je bilo ime Malh.

¹¹Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

¹¹Jezus pa reče Petru:Vtakni meč svoj v nožnico. Ali naj ne pijem keliha, ki mi ga je dal Oče?

¹²Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,

¹²Tedaj zgrabijo vojaki in tisočnik in služabniki Judov Jezusa in ga zvežejo;

¹³And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

¹³in peljejo ga najprej k Anu; bil je namreč tast Kajfov, ki je bil tisto leto veliki duhovnik.

¹⁴Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

¹⁴Bil je pa Kajfa tisti, ki je bil Judom nasvetoval, da je bolje, da umre eden človek za ljudstvo.

¹⁵And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.

¹⁵Za Jezusom pa je šel Simon Peter in neki drugi učenec. Ta učenec pa je bil znan z velikim duhovnikom, ter vnide z Jezusom na dvorišče velikega duhovnika.

¹⁶But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

¹⁶Peter pa je stal zunaj pri vratih. Tedaj gre ven drugi učenec, znanec velikega duhovnika, in se pomeni z vratarico in pripelje Petra noter.

¹⁷Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.

¹⁷Dekla vratarica reče torej Petru. Ali nisi tudi ti izmed učencev tega človeka? On pa reče: Nisem.

¹⁸And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

¹⁸A hlapci in služabniki so bili zanetili ogenj, ker je bilo mraz, ter so se okoli stojé greli; stal je pa tudi Peter med njimi in s grel.

¹⁹The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.

¹⁹Veliki duhovnik torej vpraša Jezusa za učence njegove in za nauk njegov.

²⁰Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

²⁰Jezus mu odgovori: Jaz sem očitno govoril svetu; jaz sem vsekdar učil v shodnici in templju, kjer se vsi Judje shajajo, in skrivaj nisem ničesar govoril.

²¹Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.

²¹Kaj vprašuješ mene? Vprašaj tiste, ki so me slišali, kaj sem jim govoril; glej, oni vedo, kaj sem pravil jaz.

²²And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

²²Ko je pa to rekel, udari eden služabnikov, ki je stal poleg, Jezusa po licu in reče: Tako odgovarjaš velikemu duhovniku?

²³Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

²³Jezus mu odgovori: Če sem hudo govoril, izpričaj, da je hudo; če pa dobro, zakaj me biješ?

²⁴Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

²⁴Ana ga torej pošlje zvezanega k velikemu duhovniku Kajfu.

²⁵And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

²⁵Simon Peter pa stoji pri ognju in se greje. Reko mu torej: Ali nisi tudi ti izmed učencev njegovih? On zataji in reče: Nisem.

²⁶One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

²⁶Eden izmed hlapcev velikega duhovnika, sorodnik tistega, ki mu je bil Peter odsekal uho, reče: Te li nisem jaz videl ž njim na vrtu?

²⁷Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

²⁷Peter pa zopet utaji, in precej zapoje petelin.

²⁸Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

²⁸A Jezusa peljejo od Kajfa v sodno palačo. Bilo je pa zjutraj. In oni nočejo stopiti v sodno palačo, da se ne bi oskrunili, temuč da bi jedli velikonočno jagnje.

²⁹Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

²⁹Pilat torej pride ven k njim in reče: Kakšno tožbo imate zoper tega človeka?

³⁰They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

³⁰Odgovore in reko: Če ta ne bi bil hudodelnik, ne bi ga bili tebi izročili.

³¹Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

³¹Reče jim torej Pilat: Vzemite ga vi, in sodite ga po svoji postavi. Judje pa mu reko: Mi ne smemo nikogar umoriti.

³²That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.

³²Da se izpolni Jezusova beseda, ki jo je rekel, ko je naznačil, s kakšno smrtjo mu bode umreti.

³³Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

³³Pilat torej gre zopet v sodno palačo, in pokliče Jezusa in mu reče: Si li ti kralj Judov?

³⁴Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?

³⁴Jezus mu odgovori: Praviš li to sam od sebe ali so ti drugi rekli o meni?

³⁵Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

³⁵Pilat odgovori: Sem mar jaz Jud? Tvoj narod in višji duhovniki so te meni izročili, kaj si storil?

³⁶Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

³⁶Jezus odgovori: Moje kraljestvo ni od tega sveta; ko bi bilo moje kraljestvo od tega sveta, bi se moji služabniki vojskovali, da ne bi bil Judom izročen; sedaj pa kraljestvo moje ni odtod.

³⁷Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

³⁷Tedaj mu reče Pilat: Torej kralj si ti? Jezus odgovori: Ti praviš, da sem jaz kralj. Jaz sem zato rojen, in zato sem prišel na svet, da pričam za resnico. Vsak, kdor je od resnice, posluša glas moj.

³⁸Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

³⁸Pilat mu reče: Kaj je resnica? In ko je to rekel, izide zopet k Judom in jim reče: Jaz ne vidim nobene krivice na njem.

³⁹But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

³⁹Je pa navada pri vas, da vam enega izpustim na Veliko noč; hočete li torej, da vam izpustim kralja Judov?Nato zavpijejo vsi, rekoč: Ne tega, ampak Baraba. Bil je pa Baraba razbojnik.

⁴⁰Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
