¹Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

²And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

²In višji duhovniki in pismarji so gledali, kako bi ga umorili; bali so se namreč ljudstva.

³Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

³Satan pa je šel v Juda s priimkom Iškariota, ki je bil iz števila dvanajsterih.

⁴And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

⁴In odide in se dogovori z višjimi duhovniki in glavarji templja, kako jim ga izda.

⁵And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

⁵In razvesele se in se zavežejo, dati mu denarja.

⁶And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

⁶In da jim besedo in išče pripravnega čas, da jim ga izda v nepričujočnosti množice.

⁷Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

⁷Pride pa dan presnih kruhov, ko je bilo treba klati velikonočno jagnje.

⁸And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

⁸In pošlje Petra in Janeza, rekoč: Pojdita, pripravita nam velikonočno jagnje, da bomo jedli.

⁹And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

⁹Ona pa mu rečeta: Kje hočeš, da pripraviva?

¹⁰And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

¹⁰A on jima reče: Glej, ko prideta v mesto, vaju bo srečal človek, ki bo nesel vrč vode; sledita za njim v hišo, v katero pojde,

¹¹And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

¹¹in recita hišnemu gospodarju: Učenik ti pravi: Kje je obednica, kjer bom jedel velikonočno jagnje z učenci svojimi?

¹²And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

¹²In on vama pokaže veliko izbo pogrnjeno; tam pripravita.

¹³And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

¹³Pa odideta in najdeta, kakor jima je bil rekel, in pripravita velikonočno jagnje.

¹⁴And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

¹⁴In ko pride ura, sede za mizo in dvanajsteri apostoli ž njim.

¹⁵And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

¹⁵In reče jim: Željno sem hrepenel jesti to velikonočno jagnje z vami, preden bom trpel;

¹⁶For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

¹⁶kajti pravim vam, da ga ne bom več jedel, dokler se v kraljestvu Božjem ne dopolni.

¹⁷And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

¹⁷In prejme kelih, zahvali in reče: Vzemite ga in razdelite med seboj.

¹⁸For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

¹⁸Kajti pravim vam, da ne bom več pil od trtnega sadu, dokler ne pride kraljestvo Božje.

¹⁹And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

¹⁹In vzame kruh, zahvali in prelomivši ga, jim da, rekoč: To je moje telo, ki se za vas daruje. To delajte v moj spomin!

²⁰Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

²⁰Ravno tako tudi kelih po večerji, rekoč: Ta kelih je nova zaveza v moji krvi, ki se za vas preliva.

²¹But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

²¹Toda glej, izdajalca mojega roka je z menoj na mizi.

²²And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

²²Sin človekov sicer gre, kakor je določeno, ali gorje tistemu človeku, ki ga izdaja.

²³And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

²³In oni začno vpraševati med seboj, kdo je mar izmed njih, ki bo to storil.

²⁴And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

²⁴Vname pa se tudi prepir med njimi, kdo izmed njih velja li za večjega.

²⁵And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

²⁵On jim pa reče: Kralji narodov tem gospodujejo, in kateri imajo oblast, se imenujejo dobrotniki.

²⁶But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

²⁶Vi pa ne tako: ampak kdor je največji med vami, bodi kakor najmanjši, in kdor je vodnik, bodi kakor služabnik.

²⁷For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

²⁷Kdo namreč je večji: kdor sedi za mizo, ali kdor streže? Ali ne, kdor sedi za mizo? Jaz pa sem med vami kakor kdor streže.

²⁸Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

²⁸A vi ste, ki ste vztrajali z menoj v izkušnjavah mojih.

²⁹And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

²⁹In jaz vam volim kraljestvo, kakor ga je meni Oče moj volil,

³⁰That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

³⁰da jeste in pijete pri mizi moji v kraljestvu mojem in sedite na prestolih ter sodite dvanajstere rodove Izraelove.

³¹And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

³¹Simon, Simon! glej, satan si je izprosil, da vas sme presejati kakor pšenico;

³²But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

³²ali jaz sem prosil zate, naj ne izgine vera tvoja; in ti, ko se nekdaj izpreobrneš, potrjuj brate svoje.

³³And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

³³On pa mu reče: Gospod, pripravljen sem iti s teboj tudi v ječo in v smrt.

³⁴And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

³⁴A on mu reče: Pravim ti, Peter, danes ne zapoje petelin, dokler trikrat ne utajiš, da me poznaš.

³⁵And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

³⁵In vpraša jih: Ko sem vas poslal brez mošnje in torbe in obuvala, ali vam je česa zmanjkalo? Oni pa odgovore: Ničesar.

³⁶Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

³⁶On pa jim reče: Ali sedaj, kdor ima mošnjo, naj jo vzame, ravno tako tudi torbo, a kdor nima meča, naj proda suknjo in si ga kupi.

³⁷For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

³⁷Kajti pravim vam, da se mora izpolniti na meni še to, kar je pisano: „In hudodelnikom je bil prištet“. Zakaj to, kar je pisano zame, se bliža dopolnitvi.

³⁸And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

³⁸Oni pa reko: Gospod glej, tu sta dva meča! A on jim reče: Dosti je!

³⁹And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

³⁹In gre ven in se napoti kakor navadno na Oljsko goro; za njim pa gredo tudi učenci njegovi.

⁴⁰And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

⁴⁰In ko pride na mesto, jim reče: Molite, da ne zajdete v izkušnjavo.

⁴¹And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

⁴¹In sam se odmakne od njih za lučaj kamena in pokleknivši na kolena, moli

⁴²Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

⁴²in reče: Oče, ako hočeš, vzemi ta kelih od mene, toda ne moja volja, ampak tvoja se zgodi!

⁴³And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

⁴³Prikaže pa se mu angel iz nebes in ga krepča.

⁴⁴And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

⁴⁴In ko se bori z grozo smrti, moli še gorečneje; in njegov pot postane kakor kaplje krvi, ki so padale na zemljo.

⁴⁵And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

⁴⁵In vstane od molitve ter pride k učencem svojim in jih najde speče od žalosti.

⁴⁶And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

⁴⁶In jim reče: Kaj spite? Vstanite in molite, da ne zajdete v izkušnjavo!

⁴⁷And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

⁴⁷Ko je še govoril, glej, množica in oni, ki se je imenoval Juda, eden dvanajsterih, gre pred njimi in se približa Jezusu, da ga poljubi.

⁴⁸But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

⁴⁸Jezus mu pa reče: Juda, s poljubom izdajaš Sina človekovega?

⁴⁹When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

⁴⁹Ko pa vidijo ti, ki so bili okoli njega, kaj da bo, mu reko: Gospod, ali naj udarimo z mečem?

⁵⁰And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

⁵⁰In eden izmed njih udari hlapca velikega duhovnika in mu odseka desno uho.

⁵¹And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

⁵¹Jezus pa odgovori in reče: Nehajte, dotlej! In doteknivši se ušesa njegovega, ga ozdravi.

⁵²Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

⁵²A višjim duhovnikom in poglavarjem templja in starejšinam, ki so bili prišli nadenj, reče Jezus: Kakor nad razbojnika ste prišli z meči in koli?

⁵³When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

⁵³Ko sem bil vsak dan z vami v templju, niste iztegnili rok zoper mene. Ali to je vaša ura in oblast teme.

⁵⁴Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

⁵⁴In zgrabijo ga in odženo. In peljejo ga v hišo velikega duhovnika. A Peter je šel oddaleč za njim.

⁵⁵And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

⁵⁵In ko so bili zanetili ogenj sredi dvorišča in so skupaj sedeli, sede Peter mednje.

⁵⁶But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

⁵⁶Neka dekla pa, ko ga vidi sedečega pri ognju, ga ostro pogleda in reče: Tudi ta je bil ž njim.

⁵⁷And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

⁵⁷A on zataji, rekoč: Žena, ne poznam ga.

⁵⁸And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

⁵⁸In malo potem ga ugleda drugi in reče: Tudi ti si izmed njih. A Peter reče: Človek, nisem!

⁵⁹And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

⁵⁹In eno uro ali nekaj pozneje trdi nekdo drugi, rekoč: Zares, tudi ta je bil ž njim; saj je tudi Galilejec.

⁶⁰And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

⁶⁰Peter pa reče: Človek, ne vem, kaj praviš. In zdajci, ko še govori, zapoje petelin.

⁶¹And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

⁶¹In Gospod se obrne in pogleda na Petra; in Peter se spomni besede Gospodove, kakor mu je bil rekel: Preden zapoje petelin, me zatajiš trikrat.

⁶²And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

⁶²In gre ven in se bridko razjoka.

⁶³And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.

⁶³In možje, ki so držali Jezusa, so ga zasramovali in bíli.

⁶⁴And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

⁶⁴In zakrivali so ga in vpraševali, govoreč: Prorokuj, kdo te je udaril?

⁶⁵And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

⁶⁵In še veliko drugega so preklinjaje govorili zoper njega.

⁶⁶And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,

⁶⁶In ko napoči jutro, se zbere starejšinstvo ljudstva, višji duhovniki in pismarji; in odpeljejo ga v veliki zbor svoj in reko:

⁶⁷Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

⁶⁷Če si ti Kristus, povej nam! On pa reče: Ako vam povem, nikakor ne boste verovali;

⁶⁸And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

⁶⁸ako pa vprašam, gotovo ne odgovorite.

⁶⁹Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

⁶⁹Odslej pa bo Sin človekov sedel na desnici moči Božje.

⁷⁰Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

⁷⁰In reko vsi: Ti si torej Sin Božji? On jim pa reče: Vi pravite, da jaz sem.A oni reko: Kaj nam je še treba pričevanja? Saj smo sami slišali iz ust njegovih.

⁷¹And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
